  1. Oops...I was thinking Candye Kayne...nevermind.
  2. I like vocals. And if Andy Bey isn't jazz, I guess I like nonjazz vocals as well. Anyway, that doesn't mean I like ALL jazz vocals. I think Woody Herman's croaking is a distraction. I don't even like his 'announcements'. Hey, we'll figure out who the soloist is; shut up already! Also, Chet Baker's vocals creep me out big time. Since these are two vocalists who seem to come up in any discussion of vocalists here, it's no surprise to me that people get the idea that more people dislike them than actually do. (I think I got lost halfway through that sentence, but hopefully it makes sense!) On the other hand, I'll listen to Ella, or Sarah,or Anita all O'Day. Er...I mean... As for the gender difference, yeah, I tend to prefer female vocalists. The higher ranges seem more musical to me for some reason. But then, when Sarah goes low....wow! Frank Sinatra is fantastic, I don't care what you call him. Same with Billy Eckstine. Bob Dorough always brings a smile. But in general, I prefer the female singers.
  3. What a stupid post. ← Damn!
  4. Yeah, I'm with Matthew. I figure if I leave my really stupid stuff up for all to see, maybe I'll learn from my mistakes and not post stupid stuff in the future. Yeah, I know; it hasn't worked yet...
  5. Waaaaay off topic, but that's got to be the best written example of a Scottish accent I've ever seen!
  6. We'd kill for $2.59!
  7. I can see Newhart now, with phone to ear: "Uh huh. And..and then they did what? Ah...they..."
  8. Nope, not a thing wrong with it in my book. Hell, if I could find that Danish 1881 2 Skilling on cover, I'd gladly pay that much for it, and that would just be a stoopid used stamp on an envelope!
  9. Well, yeah; that's what I meant to say...
  10. Wow! Missed it completely. I don't know if I'd buy the remix, but it would be nice to see a "comeback" by the man...
  11. Looks like the Krupa/James is gone, but the Freshmen are still available. At that price, I wish I wanted the thing!
  12. But wait! Act today, and we'll throw in the plastic insert tray for free! That's SIX pieces for the price of four!!!
  13. Well...speaking as someone who used to spend hundreds of dollars for a particular issue of Superman that I needed for my collection, I can't throw stones. But I agree; at that point, it is not about the music anymore, unless you're talking about someone with as much disposable income as all of us put together...
  14. I'm holding out for the free toaster.
  15. Dr. Egon Spengler: Well, let's say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning's reading, it would be a Twinkie thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds. Winston Zeddemore: That's a big Twinkie. ← I dunno about overintellectualized; all I can say is I've heard shit that would turn you white!
  16. Looking at the list of bids made, poor Leonardog must wonder what kind of madhouse he ran into!
  17. I've heard enough stories from enough different places to know that within five minutes of meeting Anita, I'd probably turn five shades of red and become completely traumatized due to my sheltered up bringing. But what the hell...
  18. I was all set to go with Smoking Section when I heard the live broadcast, but yeah, I have to go with Tenderly as well. Still, the album as a whole is pretty amazing! Nice flow.
  19. Yeah, I think so...
  20. Vandermark 5: Elements of Style Charlie Hunter Trio: Bing, Bing, Bing! ...probably my last trip to Streetlight Records before I move.
  21. I've considered it. It seemed like a silly idea at first, but with the smaller labels I'm beginning to warm to the idea, since they each seem to have their own "personality".
  22. Odd; seems like I've always used the "ship together" option with preorders as well, but maybe I never had two different release dates on the same order before.
