George Takei, 'Trek's' Sulu: "I'm gay"
Jazzmoose replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I for one am shocked and stunned. This news absolutely amazes me. In all honesty, I had no idea Sulu even had a first name, let alone something like "Hikaru"... -
Actually, the house we bought had the cable left on from the previous owners, for about two weeks. Unfortunately, they didn't leave the switch box, so we had to choose between things like Lifetime, C-Span2 and The Food Network. Minor league politicians are okay, but I'll take Rachael Ray over 'em anyday!

Sounds like Emily Latella is still around...

Having recently been exposed to the amazing Ms. Ray, I just had to bump this topic up...

Nice list. As is to be expected on a historical list like this, the more recent the period, the more I disagree. Fortunately I took Agustin's caution about clicking on the overviews seriously, or I'd have started the post with "where's Fletcher Henderson??? ). By the time of the last period covered, I disagree quite a bit, but still can see reasons for the picks, so I guess it's okay. The first period is such a good listing that I feel embarrassed about not having it all. I"d better get off the can and pick up some Jelly Roll and more Hawk. To say nothing of Bessie Smith and Bechet! Let's see how many I have since we're all comparing... 1917-1942: 5 1943-1959: 11 1960-1979: 13 1980-2000: 0 Hmmm...keep in mind that I probably have one of the smaller jazz collections here, and have only been listening to 'newer jazz' since I picked up those two Quartet Out discs and fried my brain... Anyway, I think for it's stated purpose, it's a great list (except for the modern era, but maybe that's just me). I have no doubt that anyone who stuck with it and listened to the entire batch would be hooked for life! My only question is, which one do you start with to make sure they come back for the second?

Man, you got that right! I didn't realize it until my forced exile of the last month. I plan on stepping back a bit myself. But of course, we all know it's too late for me, and I'll be back for hours every day...save yourselves! RUN!!!

In general, I'm against it. In theory, there are times when I could support it, but the cases would be few and far between. In reality though, the system is just too flawed to justify such a punishment that allows for no correction of mistakes whatsoever.

The UK went along without beavers for 500 years???? That explains a lot...

I guess it all comes down to what you consider to be the point of the justice system. Is it there to punish or to rehabilitate? I fall on the side of rehabilitate in most cases, but four murders? Sorry, that's a bit much to take.

Oh, man...it's not the travel, it's getting your damned computer back on line! They don't tell you that if you're moving to the middle of nowhere that you have to wait until they find enough suckers to fill the truck before your stuff ships. I've been here for about two weeks; the moving van didn't show up until today. I'm still working on getting the DSL up and running; I'm on the back-up dial-up bit right now, so this is going to be hit-and-run; hopefully I'll be back full time tomorrow or soon. But I do have to read about Trane Fanatic's rat before I sign off!!

Time to borrow your thread one last time, Catesta! I'll be packing the computer today, and won't be back on line until the movers get it to the new house, it's hooked up, etc. Remember: wellwishes will be pointless, as I won't see them until I'm already there! (Wait a minute; wasn't that a line on a Firesign Theater album???) See y'all soon...

The only clothing fads I ever fell for were elephant bells and stacks. My ankles still haven't recovered...

Hostage Gave Meth to Atlanta Fugitive - I thought

"Look: you need to calm down and get a hold of yourself; here...do a few lines of this!" -
That's the comparison I was making while watching as well. The Beatles, as far as I interpret it, were just as caustic and insulting as Dylan in their press conferences. They just covered their insults with humor, and the press didn't get it. Dylan seemed genuinely amazed at the bullshit that the press would ask and too stunned (or tired, as this film led us to believe) to play along.

Don Adams aka Maxwell Smart has passed

Sure was hoping this thread wasn't what I thought it was when I saw it on the main page... -
Oh hell, yeah! That wouldn't even make my list of top ten Bowie songs.

Just eliminate 3, 5, 7, 8 & 10, and I can deal with it. Replacing them with BruceH's suggestions would be mighty fine...

Damn, I haven't seen that move in years. Used to love it. How does it hold up? ← I have the old one disc one, and while I realize that it isn't exactly a "critics dream", I love this movie! As far as I'm concerned, it's as good as any of Cagney's gangster flicks. (Gasp!)

Was tripod part of a trilogy??? ← Probably about a photographer or something...

I must confess, the only time I've ever sat and devoured years worth of any magazine was when I discovered about 150 years worth of bound copies of Puck in the library back in my college days. Don't know if I really have time to justify the purchase of anything like this (he says while more CDs than he could ever possibly hope to listen to lie close by...)

Must admit, I don't buy unpriced merchandise either. Hey, it's no biggie if you don't want to do it, John, you just have to keep in mind that you're narrowing your prospective market by quite a bit if you go that way. -
Before I pony up this much money, are the oil changes in Mono or Stereo?
