  1. Damn, I'm still on the fence. I've been doing very well lately with holding down the music purchases, and it's almost like it's a choice between the Talking Heads rerelease and this...and I know which one I'd listen to more...
  2. Yeah, but as much as it happens here, it must be fun...
  3. All we get here are PC Magazine, The Week and Cat Fancy. While two are in my name, it's the wife who's the magazine buyer here. Like many others, I do most of my periodical-style reading online.
  4. I had this problem back when CDs first came out, but by the time I entered the jazz universe (back in issue #45 as we all know... ), I'd learned my lesson. The worst thing I do now is have a stack of a day's worth of listening piled up (IN the jewel boxes, of course!) that need to be refiled in their proper place.
  5. That's a seriously disturbing statement!
  6. I dunno...a cook too lazy to make their own cheese...what would Martha say?
  7. Hmmm...well, I know which of those two categories the Moose fell into...
  8. My personal feeling on all this...I'm just going to let it go. I'm sure there are some here who feel that I've been disrespectful to Shrdlu (I'll cop a guilty plea; I'm disrespectful to everyone at one point or another) or that I can't stand him (not true), and while I'm pretty certain that Shrdlu understands where I'm coming from, I imagine there are some here that don't. So, I'm going to try to just pass on these religious discussions from now on. I'm sure everyone here has pretty much figured out that I'm an agnostic who, if forced to chose his best pick would give the nod to athiesm (although some may incorrectly think that I am a confirmed athiest like Alexander; no, what he and I have in common is more of a disdain for organized religion. I think.) so there's really no point in my contributing to these discussions anymore. This much I believe: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and any other codified religion are nothing more than a string of myths. Did Jesus exist? Maybe. However, what does it matter when the Sermon on the Mount and darned near any other important info in the bible appeared elsewhere first? Personally, I think this is all somewhat interesting, but about as unimportant as it gets, and that's probably the big difference between me and the Christians here (and Alexander). If you enjoy your religion, go for it. But don't expect me to take a deep interest in your hobby; I really don't care that much.
  9. Don't want to keep Hans and the others in suspense, so here's Joe's comments... "Why on Earth would God create a world in which Her children needed a mediator? If I want to speak to my parents, I pick up the phone or drive to their house and do so. No mediator required. It shouldn't be any different with my Creator. If it's true that we do need Christ as a mediator, than what of the billions of people who lived and died during the last 2000 years in a time and place that never heard of Christ or the Bible (like the entire Western Hemisphere until the Europeans came some 1500 years A.D.)? The devil's trick, you say? If you are certain that the religion which you happen to belong to is of the one true God, than the followers of all other religions (or those who follow no religion) are unsaved, heathens, infidels, "the other", etc., which puts God on your side, thus allowing you to feel justifed in eradicating them, or at best subduing and converting them for their own good (think of how the Europeans treated the indigenous peoples of this land for instance). If, on the other hand, you are certain that all religions contain the same basic universal truths, and that every human being on the planet is worthy of God's love just as they are, then you don't need to save them or hate them. You see them as the absolute equals that they are. Look, Shrdlu, you seem like a pleasant enough fellow. I feel like if I met you, and we talked about anything but religion, we'd get along just fine. The problem I have is that while you say you respect other's right to believe as they choose, you are also telling us that you are right and we are wrong. That's not respect. Respect would be to admit that you don't know the mind and intention of God for certain any more than I do. It's an unfathomable mystery. But at the same time, it's very simple: My friend, you are already enlightened. You already have absolute security. You already have peace of mind and all of the resources you need to fulfill your creative purpose. There is only one thing that you do not have. And that is the awareness that all this is true. This, to me, is essentially what Christ, Buddha, Lao Tse, and all the other high beings from every culture came to remind us of. Because either we all have the key, or none of us does. How can it be any other way? Peace"
  10. Heh. Heh heh. He said "Trojans".
  11. You'd think that by now I'd know what a stupid idea this was. "Hmmm...should I get this Mosaic that's going OOP? I dunno, let's see what the guys say on Organissimo!" Duh...okay, I'll order it Monday. Jeez...
  12. Wow...when I read the thread title, I thought either Daltrey or Townsend had kicked the bucket!
  13. I just drifted in and started checking out the place once in a while. I dunno; it's okay I guess. Maybe I should start posting here regularly...
  14. Along the same line, people who return items at the return desk in a store, stand in line, wait until they get to the counter and THEN start digging for their receipt, which of course is stuck in their purse along with all the other receipts they've collected for the last six months...
  15. Damn. I thought this was a Ten Years After thread...
  16. Never. No way. Ain't gonna happen. You've got to be kidding! Absolutely no way in hell. Nope. Fuggetaboudit.
  17. If I had to choose just one, it would be Fear of Music, but I'm damned glad I don't have to choose just one!
  18. I know others prefer Hartman or Eckstein, but for me, when it comes to groovin' to male vocals, nothing can compare to Capitol era Sinatra...I like some of them better than others, but none of 'em are less than great.
  19. C'mon, Moose, you know you want more.... Oh, you bet yer ass I do! I'm sure I'll go over twenty this year, and thanks to this poll, guilt free!
  20. Damned if I know on this poll; I wouldn't touch either one of them!
  21. I'm thinking the middle of January. Don't discount the volume of posts during the elections, it's gonna be up there. If we could rustle up a few rabid conservatives to play tag with Johnny, it could be over by mid-December!
  22. (Uh...the last line was serious by the way...)
  23. That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard of! How can you even consider it? How can you live with yourself? How can I get the link?
