Big City vs. Small City living.
Jazzmoose replied to Matthew's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I've lived in the city, the suburbs, small towns and the country. My least favorite is small towns. Nothing to do, and the nosiest people in the world (hey, they have to entertain themselves some how!) Next up: the city. Too crowded, noisy, dirty, but at least you're never bored! Runner up: the country. Peaceful, green and alive. Not for those who can't stand their own thoughts, however. Best: the much maligned suburbs. Quiet enough to get your thoughts in order, but close enough to the city for some action whenever you need it. But keep in mind that #4 is so far from the others that City/suburbs/country should be considered a tie for first with small town waaaaaaaay back.... -
I don't get it. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0716041melons1.html

What numbers did your set(s) get?
Jazzmoose replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Obviously a duel to the death. "This number ain't big enough for the both of us!" -
PD, I think your first post was taken in the spirit it was intended. But your second post scares the shit out of me. (Budgeting type: switch to low lights, skip the Rogaine and spend the extra on the Viagra...who the heck needs hair? That's what ears are for... ) Having been listening to jazz for only about six years now, I'll bet the list of what I haven't heard would make you weep.

Little Debbie® Is My Girl Contest

I don't wanna eat nothing, but Little Debbie....nah, they'd never go for it. -
Looks like canned soup for me...

You know, I probably wouldn't have. Mosaic hits me as a pretty safe way to sample a large amount of music like this; I figure I can always sell it if I don't like it, and the Mosaic box (and the fact that it's "running low")does reassure me that at least a sizable number of jazz fanatics think it's worth having. On the other hand, before I heard this, my reaction to a recommendation would have been "Paul who? Like I can afford to buy all the music that's recommended here!" and would have never heard it. In fact, my favorite Mosaic purchase fell into this "sight unseen" (unheard?) category: the Capitol Jazz set. Absolutely fantastic stuff that's really pushed me into undiscovered (for me) territory. Makes me wish Mosaic did more label oriented stuff rather than artist oriented boxes...

Hmmm...I have cats as well, and they can't get MY contact info...

What format will the August Mosaic sale have?
Jazzmoose replied to Guy Berger's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'm hoping for the $5 off thing again, so I can grab the Lee/Christie box and snag the RCA Satchmo set at the same time... -
So is the Invisible Agent only 15% invisible? How does that work, exactly?

If the kid's a minor, you're screwed. Minors cannot enter into legal contracts. At the very least, contact eBay and alert them to the fact that the account is held by a minor in violation of eBay rules.

Mind Blowing Optical Illusion
Jazzmoose replied to Brownian Motion's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yep. That's Harold Jefferson, middle linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles in '55 and parts of the '56 and '57 seasons. You see, the stripes alter the focus of the eyes just enough that you don't even notice Jefferson's beard... -
Big Al, I don't know if you jinxed me or what, but shortly after this thread appeared my latest dry spell began, and it still hasn't ended. I must admit, when you're actually in a period of not listening to music, it's a lot more bothersome than I remember. I can't take background music, can't actively listen...I dunno, I'm starting to feel like I'm cheating just being at this website, you know?

Yeah, I hear what you mean. Unfortunately, I don't care for it...

Frank's right; y'all listen up now!

There is indeed. The transaction is not complete until both parties agree it is complete. Besides, as Craig points out, it's optional. I've left feedback for every transaction I've been involved in except two. The first, the dealer didn't like the way ebay did feedback and requested I not leave it. I complied, as it would have been positive anyway. The second was my most recent when I received an email after bidding informing me that I should "leave feedback when you receive your item. We leave feedback afterwards, and leave whatever we get." I know many sellers have this policy, but rubbing my face in it was a bit much. Screw 'em.

Well, personally, I'd love to have a much better system than I have now, but I don't see the financial possibilities in my near future. On the other hand, I can spare $10 to $15 for a new disc once in a while. I guess it's a matter of practicality for me, so if I ever sound "anti-system", take it with a grain of salt...

The first really sour relationship in my life involved a girl who thought "Hot Blooded" was the greatest thing ever recorded. I refuse to admit any knowledge of Foreigner or their lyrics. At least anything after the first LP...

Inexpensive cardio workout equipment.....
Jazzmoose replied to dig dis's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'd go with the bike. Or at least I have. Cheaper is the jump rope, and it's amazing how fast the heart gets going with that little toy...kids are amazing! If the jump rope is too much, there's always a cinder block and step aerobics, but it takes twenty minutes or so to get the heart pumping hard with that. -
Does it work with real beer as well?

What, did Posh Spice decide she only needed one nailed to the wall? -
I dunno. I use a lot of olive oil, but I'd never use it to fry chicken. I'd go with peanut oil myself.
