  1. Yes, but it's the magenta one! Get it? Wink, wink; nudge nudge. Magenta, eh? Do you see? Okay; me either...
  2. The main thing to remember is that both instruments are illegal in Texas...
  3. Another reason to be glad I'm male...
  4. ...and here I am. Who didn't see this coming!
  5. Oh, great. Something else to worry about when I can't sleep...
  6. Sounds like two cats screwing to me. Sorry.
  7. I'd say that's enough, but then I'd also throw in Rock and Roll Animal, my choice for best live rock album (all together now) "of all time"...
  8. Does this mean Bubbles has to wear one of those butt ugly skinny ties?
  9. (I should point out that, while I agree with you guys, that "slim body of inspired work" is absolutely incredible! )
  10. Mmmmm! Did someone mention parrot?
  11. desertblues, I was drooling over the Woody Herman until I found out it had vocals. I know what you mean, and I'll pass. I'm sure this'll offend some here, but why didn't someone have the courage to let him know that he couldn't sing? And over that gorgeous music, too...
  12. Clementine! Please be careful! What if a PRESTIGOUS ROCK CRITIC had accidently read that post of yours? His blood would be on your hands! (...and my keyboard, Chris's monitor, Jim's hard drive...man, those guys blow up real good!)
  13. Wow...thought I was rare. At least two or three nights a week, I'll actually fall asleep, sleep for fifteen minutes to half an hour, and wake up refreshed, ready to go, with no way to get back to sleep. I usually have to stay up for three hours minimum before I can get back to sleep. Then drag all day... So if you see me here after 10:00 Pacific Time, it's another long night. I think the main problem is that I've been a night owl all my life. Always worked swing or grave. Even in high school, I'd come home, nap for a couple of hours and stay up most of the night. Now, I have to be at work at 7 AM. I've been doing it for about two years now, and I'm beginning to face the fact that those who said "you'll adjust" just didn't know what the hell they were talking about.
  14. Lee Morgan's Sonic Boom. I was so pumped up to hear this, I expected to immediately become rich, famous, and irresistable to women upon hearing it. Well, it is that good, but I don't have any privacy, the taxes are killing me, and if I find one more strange woman in my bed I'm going to become a monk...
  15. I've got a BMG club edition of Breakin' the Ice I'd be willing to trade; PM me if you're interested...
  16. Maybe so, but it's only living on the west coast that enables me to lay off the White Castle burgers, so who am I to criticize?
  17. Wow. Even on dial-up, this thread is worth it! Strange how I moved to the right on that one before reading the caption, though...
  18. Every time I see that photo, I just want to scream "Sophia! Don't worry about it; she isn't even in your league!! (Besides, you'll outlive her by decades!"
  19. Hoo boy, you guys are barking up the wrong tree asking me audiophile type questions! First of all, this is my first exposure to this music, so I couldn't say how it compares to earlier releases. According to the tray insert, New Africa clocks in at 47:10, and One Morning at 28:46. On the other hand, I didn't time them or anything. I am assuming it's done from tape, as if it's from LP it's not apparent to me. On the other hand, keep in mind that my so-called "system" is only one step up from a boom box... All I can say for sure is that it is an absolute crime against nature that Moncur didn't get to lead more sessions.
  20. Now, be fair, RT...in Texas they think a cock ring involves bets placed on chickens...
  21. ...and so they do! Just picked up New Africa/One Morning I Woke Up Very Early on CD. I won't say I like it or anything, but after three straight listens, I'm ready for another...
  22. I knew that one was coming!
  23. I picked up Some Other Stuff from a fellow board member, and I must say I'm hooked. Guess I should have saved some money and just went for the Mosaic Select, eh? I just wasn't sure about giving him a shot, as I remember a thread from the old BNBB with people who seemed to know a lot more about jazz than I did (and I'm sure that was a correct assumption!) arguing over him, with some saying he was great, and some saying they didn't get him at all. Turns out I'm in the former camp, so add him to my list!
  24. If I'm going to listen to music at work (sometimes I do, sometimes I don't), I find that it has to be a very narrow definition of jazz. Let's just say that if I'm at work listening to jazz, Hard Bop would feel very welcome in my office. There's no way I could listen to stuff that I'm just now discovering and get my work done. I'm listening to an artist now that I just recently got into, and it's taking me forever to write this damned post...
