Yeah, Chuck, it's a really cool package for it's time. I was always impressed with it when I discovered it in my teen years. Jim, my copy is really thrashed and noisy, but yeah, it's definitely more interesting than the studio stuff; I have enough of that on "The Essential Glenn Miller" 2 CD set that I never listen to...

Courtney Love 'tried to make overdose fun for
Jazzmoose replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Hell, I don't know either of them, so it's no skin off my nose if the whole family goes down in flames. But they do need help... -
I didn't realize this, although now that I think about it, it's pretty obvious from the sound. Wow. If they had included those two on Revolver, I might not have even bothered with any other Beatles albums. That would have, without a doubt, clinched my vote for best Pop/Rock album of all time. And I don't normally make statements like that, believe me.

Believe me, my thoughts are worse on this subject as well!

What is the SINGLE most important Jazz Era
Jazzmoose replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Right now I'd say the "Classic BN era", but the "prebop" period is moving up the charts with a bullet for me right now. A year from now, I dunno...there could be a change. Maybe I'll have to move to the Bix board... -
Amway is not a Pyramid Scheme! Just ask them! Uh..it's more of a triangle thingie with...well.... vazerzy, embarassingly enough, my father fell into that shit for a while. (Hey, no one's perfect, and Dad has a weakness for "schemes", unfortunately.) If you want to "learn to be your own boss", start a legitimate business. I won't deny that it is possible to make money in Amway, but it takes something I don't have. Lack of conscience perhaps. No matter what they claim, it most definitely is a pyramid scheme, and your success depends on how many chumps you can find, how many chumps your chumps can find, etc. Selling the product is a mere afterthought. This is just a guess, but I'd figure that 98% of the product they move is sold only to the chumps who are "becoming their own boss".

My life will never be complete until I hear that one!

Pretty cheeky advertising if you ask me. Still, I'm split on it's effectiveness. Of course, if it doesn't help the bottom line, you can always throw out the bum...

Free lecture by Wynton on Fri. -- should I go?????
Jazzmoose replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Then ask him if Bolden really went "bip-blatty-bip-blatty-doot toot", or if it was more of a "bop-diddly-dit-dit-tweetly-plonk"... -
Great! Thanks for the help, Brandon! (And thanks to Jim for the new forum!!)

That brings up my reason for the mention of Mylar above. As a former comic book collector, I know what the highly acidic paper used for comics in the past can do to polyethelyne in just a few years; it's not pretty. However, the LPs I have are in polyethelyne bags, and there seems to be little, if any, reaction. Are LP jackets in general made of (by comparison) paper of low acidity? And if so, is polyethelyne fine? If my aversion to polyethelyne isn't really beneficial in the LP field, I'm certainly willing to save the money and go with cheaper bags...
-
I was thinking about that; those paper sleeves do seem somewhat abrasive for slipping vinyl into...

I suggest that we immediately band together and begin burning Chris Olivarez posts as soon as possible!

Okay, I'll admit that I'm embarrassed that my first thread in this beautiful new forum is a geeky one (sorry Jim!), but I was digging through my vinyl today, and noticed that the two LPs I've had in poly bags for the last ten years have fared a lot better than the others as far as jacket wear. So, at the risk of looking like an anal retentive collector type, I must ask: Does anyone have sources of poly (or preferably Mylar) bags for LPs and such that they would recommend?

Well, I meant that taking away the kid until she cleans up her act would be the same as taking the kid away for life. But you have a point as well. -

I dunno, something tells me that those two options are pretty much the same... -
Thanks, Shrdlu; I tried, but no go. I guess I should "fuhgeddaboudit", eh?

Why you always wanna pick on us, Jim? Did we ever do anything to you? Don't make me tell on you! Hey...you're not gonna give me a wedgie again, are ya?

Hah! Where no digital recording has gone before....

I have this three LP set of Glenn Miller air checks (I think) that was among my Dad's records when he gave them to me, and I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with the set. The whole package is pretty beat to hell, and I'd like to know if the thing is replacable at a decent price, or barring that if anyone knows if the music is available elsewhere. The number is RCA Victor LPM-6100, and it's a pretty nice package for those "pre-box set" days, if you know what I mean. The liner notes mention that some of the tracks appeared on something called Glenn Miller Limited Edition, volumes I and II. Apparently the tracks were remastered by a Fred Reynolds. Any clues? Comments?

You know, I'm starting to come around to y'alls way of thinking...I hate to admit it, but I'm starting to catch the vinyl bug. So switch my vote to a "YES". As for a name, how about lic...oh; never mind...

The one that would definitely drive me nuts if I had the U.S. only is Revolver. I remember when I first played the British version...thought I'd died and gone to heaven! (Jeez, I am getting entirely too nostalgic today. Why, back in my day... )

But back to the topic at hand, what rock would be best for Rudy's sound? I'm thinking stuff like The Jam, assuming Rudy could stand to work with such music. But then, I'll leave this in the hands of those with more knowledge than I have...
