  1. But then it's a known fact that people named "Chas" have absolutely no musical taste whatsoever...
  2. Is this accurate? 45s only cost 10 cents in the 50s? My memory only goes back to the late 60s when they were $1.
  3. Holy uh...cow; it's an arsehole! If someone sticks their nose down there, they get what they deserve!!
  4. Mystic River will definitely be the next movie I'll see; sounds great to me. School of Rock I'll pass on; I enjoyed Jack Black in High Fidelity, but have no desire to see him in anything else...
  5. This one is on our list, right after Mystic River. As the wife and I dimly remember being 30, hopefully we'll be fine! I must admit, I was never a George Clooney fan at all, until seeing O Brother, Where Art Thou. Now, I'm willing to try anything he's in, as long as it's a comedy! As for Catherine Zeta-Jones, I've barely recovered from Chicago. If I get caught drooling I'll be in trouble, but I figure it's worth the risk...
  6. I can't remember the details or even when, but I remember Johnston announcing that she was going to end the strip. I've tried to find something about it, but there's nothing on the For Better or Worse website, and I can't find anything anywhere else. Here's hoping it was just a bad dream!
  7. WOW! Sophisticated chord progressions and notation, eh? Well, you lost me. Stop it, Jim; it's too early in the day for this shit!!
  8. Hmm. Maybe I've aged or something, but I have no desire to see this one. I've got Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs on my shelf, and like them, but have no interest in this one. The trailers I've seen make it sound pretty lame. Part of the charm of Tarrantino's films to me has been the dialog, and it sounds like this one basically has none, other than stupid catch phrases that belong in Dirty Harry or Arnie movies. Yawn. RT, I can see the comparison to NBK, but I really liked that movie. I'm sure this one will be as over-the-top as NBK, but for some bizarre reason, NBK had some sort of charm to me. Don't ask me to explain; it probably reveals some deapseated sickness on my part! Jazzbo, as far as "vehemently opposed" to the movie goes, talk to my wife...
  9. Sounds like you know more than you're letting on, Jacman! So, 'fess up: you're dippin' the wick somewhere else, ain't ya!
  10. Hmm. The only one I ever got was the "Nigerian Prince who wants to transfer money" scam. I emailed back my sympathy, told him of a host of financial woes and then told him I had found a way out...but I needed his help. I guess they didn't fall for it; never heard from him.
  11. Great news, Ed! And coincidentally, my idea for the Texas Cage Death Match between Bill O'Reilly and Michael Moore has room for only one more backer! Yep, my girlfriend found a quarter in the couch, and the neighbor's dog dug up a bottle with a nickel deposit, so there's still room for your $1,000,000 to make the difference in bringing America this great entertainment! I'll wait for your email...
  12. I still have all the books, though I haven't picked them up in years. To be honest, I'd rather see my favorite boy and his tiger return, but this is cool too. I realize that this strip doesn't have the popularity or "male appeal" of Outland or Calvin & Hobbes, but I am really going to miss For Better or Worse when it stops...
  13. I dunno...those sheep look pretty tough!
  14. Wow...I can't believe there isn't a thread for this box already, but I swear: I looked! Anyway, I remember hearing from all kinds of people that one of the reasons bebop came about was because jazz musicians were tired of just being background music for dancing and instead wanted to create art (with apologies to Bev!), if you know what I mean. But what's kicking me in the head about this set is how hard it is to keep your feet still with this set! This music is absolutely perfect for dancing; what's the deal??
  15. I'm just glad I'm not in my "Mogie completist" phase anymore, or I probably would have dashed off to look for these without thinking! Although I hear the solos on The Masturbator are hard to beat...
  16. I've heard knocks on Caramba, but it's one of my favorite Morgans.
  17. In all honesty, I haven't played it for about a year and a half, but then maybe that's a recommendation of sorts in itself...
  18. This is getting ridiculous! Has anyone found an online retailer that actually will deliver these puppies at a fair price? I'd like to get a few (particularly the Rivers and of course the Boom!), but I'm just sitting here shaking my head at the horror stories...
  19. Uh...I hear it didn't work, Brad... (Never had the nerve to try the nutmeg and orange juice one, though...)
  20. It's Bennie Green. Benny Green is someone else. Whew!! I was wondering what you guys were talking about, recording with Ike Quebec and all...
  21. The antiquities issue is naturally confused by the natural inclination to judge those in the past by today's standards, something that just doesn't fly once you examine it carefully. I think we should all keep in mind that (pardon the inanity!) the present is merely a temporary condition. Perhaps in a millenium or so, we'll (well, not us, but you know what I mean!) see British antiquities on display in Cairo. Or even at the center of the great Peruvian Empire. Or whoever is big in the year 3003...
  22. Darn the luck! I was going to bid $500 on this puppy, but it says "serious collectors only". I've never collected seriouses in my life, so I guess I'll have to pass...
  23. Oops!! Make that the "October Conns" thread in the reissue forum!
  24. I sure am glad people post these stories when they happen! I'll be sure to bypass this "fine internet retailer"!
  25. There are a few comments on the "New Conns are in" thread in the Reissue forum.
