OK well you begged and begged...

Yeah, we'll all be dropping by pretty soon, so you might as well break the news to her now! -
Exactly why I put Dick ahead of other SF writers. While a lot of his early stuff falls into the category of "neat SF gimmicks", his mature writing is just amazing, and gets better each time I read it. Shoot...I must have something around here by him...darn you!

You ain't kidding, John! Look behind him; that is his litter box!
-
Yes!! I guess that's why Berigan and Johnny E. frighten me so; they keep mutating into different politicians! Makes my antlers itch...

I must admit that I have hesitated on this one. I was all pumped up and ready to bite when KCSM ran a special on Simone (I must confess to being totally unfamiliar with her work before that), but everything I've read since then has caused me to wait. Stuff like "hit or miss", "when she's on, she's great, but..." and recommendations that a "Best of" package might be a better place to start. I expect to see a few comments like that on any artist, but it seems to be pretty much unanimous in this case...

Okay, I'll confess to reading Wilson's stuff as well. As far as Crowley, the closest I came was reading The Illuminati Trilogy while listening to Jimmy Page guitar solos... The only lasting effect I've noticed is that I still see the number 23 everywhere...

Come on, guys; this was just too cool of an idea to let slip into the ether; someone come up with another topic if this one's played out!

I used to have all the Ace Doubles that had his stuff. I know I'll never have those editions again; I'm just too darned cheap!
-
I'm not sure, but you're probably right. I know it was the one that, if you know me at all, it would be the one you'd pick, and I'm unfamiliar with this Bishop Pike you mention. I guess I should do a little research and try it again, if I can find it. I got rid of my Dick novels during a jobless stretch (they're just so easy to sell compared to most books, if you find the right place!).
-
I'll say. I never tried it, and with that limitation, I guarantee I won't be trying it in the future...

Oh. I was thinking that you people really need to get jobs, get out of the house, etc., but I was thinking 65 albums a month...nevermind.

What did you just finish listening to?
Jazzmoose replied to .:.impossible's topic in Miscellaneous Music
On the surface, it does seem silly, but there must be a difference to the two. I never read the "(Insert month here) listening" threads, but I read and contribute to the "What are you listening to right now" thread. I've thought about it and have come up with two reasons- 1) The "right now" thread seems more spontaneous and deals directly with the board experience, and 2) the other thread reminds me of those threads where someone asks for an opinion of the top three whatever discs, and someone without a clue posts a laundry list of fifty titles, deeming each one completely essential for life as we know it... -
I've read plenty of his books, and enjoyed all but one (can't remember the title of the one; it was one of his last if I remember right), but the one that stands out for me is A Scanner Darkly. A very inventive writer, to be sure.

I've heard some strange rumors about your birthday celebration; weren't you the exotic dancer?

The San Francisco Giants had one of these announcers on radio for a few years, and for the life of me I can't remember his name. I'm sure some of the other Bay Area posters will know who I'm talking about. I can only paraphrase, as I don't have the direct quotes written down, but here's a couple that stand out in my memory: "Kevin Mitchell turned 33 this week. That should give you a rough idea of how old he is." Can't remember the player for this one, but it was absolutely hilarious to listen to. Let's call him Smith... "The ball is going over Smith's head! He's racing back to the wall! Smith's head crashes into the wall! It's bouncing back towards the infield!" Not a pretty mental picture...

Norah Jones, Shankar object to movie
Jazzmoose replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Don't worry about it, Jim; I'm sure it's safe. Wait a minute, did you happen to see a small dog, named Rasta or something like that? If not... -
So, they aren't trying to stop pirates, they're just trying to prevent ordinary consumers from exercising their rights to fair use. Ain't that somethin'?

If ya mean we talk too much, just say so!

Wow...I was so involved with the silliness on the political forum that I missed the important thread! Congratulations, Jad! Just remember this line: "No. They have to come to the door and meet me if they're going to take you out!" Takes care of a lot of the flakes, I'm told!

I'm sweatin' the J.J. set; I just know I'm gonna blow it...

Back before CDs I found an oddity. I picked up Starship's Red Octopus ("blame it on my youth"), got it home, and although side one was correct, side two was Harry Belafonte's Greatest Hits. At the time, I thought this was so cool, I kept it. If it happened today, I'd probably return it. For the Belafonte album.

Why I Don't Go To Bars (except to work)

Mind you, if you look at the other picture on this page, it still is definitely the lesser of two weasels... -

Yeah, if you ignore the head, it's a great shot! But Brad Pitt in drag is Brad Pitt in drag, no matter how curvey! -
