  1. I meant ah...Nordstrom's....yeah, that's it: I work at Nordstrom's...that's the ticket...
  2. Well, if any other stores are going with the markdown strategy, I certainly wouldn't want to be the holdout who first alienates their customers, and secondly gets stuck with the stock, unable to sell it at any price. It always amazes me when I see stuff a month after Halloween in a store at 50% off; at Target by a week after we'll have it at 75% off, and a week after that at 90% off. The next week it gets dumped. We don't waste good shelf space on unrealistic expectations; we need it for merchandise!
  3. I can't stand cleaning bathrooms. My wife doesn't mind. She can't stand washing dishes. I don't mind. I tell ya, we were made for each other!
  4. I had this real smart assed humorous (well, to me anyway!) comment to post, but I can't remember which of these two threads I'm on anymore....
  5. Like a politician watching the polls, I also held back until finding out who this mysterious "Chris" was. Happy birthday to my favorite "bitter old man" (and may I never live that one down!) My life is better for having met you, even if just on line, Chris!
  6. In all honesty, I just don't care about sports anymore. Once they moved the Sharks to cable (hey, call me a luddite, but I am not paying someone for the privilege of watching commercials, okay?), that pretty much wrapped up sports for me...
  7. Yeah, those bastards!!! (Uh...who let Kenny in here? )
  8. Man, nothing prepares you for the insecurities and depressions of later life like growing up a Falcons fan. Gimme another beer...
  9. A modulator always needs two frequencies to work, but one frequency can be generated by an internal crystal, or can be supplied by some other fashion so that only one musical input is needed. (Caveat: I know about modulators from working on radio transmitters and receivers, not from music devices, so this is a "general statement", okay?) The easiest way for me to understand it is to look at a radio. When a signal is received at the antenna, two things must be done to the signal before it is useful: it must be amplified, and the data (music) has to be extracted from the carrier wave (received signal). The radio amplifies the signal, then mixes the carrier frequency with the incoming signal in a modulator, which subtracts the carrier frequency from the incoming signal, leaving only the data (music) which is then sent to the speaker. In actuality, this mixing and amplifying is done several times in stages, so it's not that simple. When the two signals are received by the modulator, the modulator produces two outputs: the original input MINUS the other signal, and the original input PLUS the other signal. (Think of the "other signal" in the case of the radio as the frequency you adjust the dial to...). In a receiver you don't care what the added result is, so that output isn't used. Only the subtracted input is used. I guess in this music device, you actually use both the added and subtracted input. Uh...if anyone is still with me, forget what I said about "the easiest way for me to understand..." at the top; I think I lost myself at least three times...
  10. The Red Sox. No, I take that back; I don't hate the Red Sox, I hate their moronic, self-absorbed whiney-assed fans. Does that count? I agree with one of you about the Red Wings. And I hate sushi. Figure it out. Football? I dunno. Is Romanowski still playing? Who for? Okay; they'll do. Basketball? Who cares about a sport so inane that a team can score 100 points and still lose. Bunch of overpaid potheads. Grrr! Snort! grumblemumble......
  11. Well...I don't know for sure, but there must be a cheaper way to get this stuff. Isn't there? That sure seems steep, but then I bought mine for $5 a pop back when dinosaurs roamed the earth...
  12. Cool thread! Makes my collection of early Danish stamps seem so...ordinary.
  13. Me either, but I was getting breakfast...
  14. Uh...is anyone else getting a weird popup box demanding your user name and password on this thread? It doesn't say if it's from the Sigfried and Roy fan club or Disney, but I ain't signing nothin'!
  15. It has the EP on one side, and side 2 is a "catch-all" of sides from 45's. I still have my vinyl through Revolver (British versions, of course, for proper sequencing!), but not the later stuff, and can't remember the details. Seems like it has Baby You're a Rich Man, Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane and a few others, but that's by hazy, pot-clouded memory....
  16. Okay, Dan; you've got your revenge from the political forum...I think I spent a total of four hours of my precious day off on this site today, scouring their listings. And I've only made it up to "D"... Yeah, at 50% off, even this tightwad is finding a few things. Of course, whether or not I'll pull the trigger and order is another thing!
  17. ...and the review is in: two giggles and a snort; we have ourselves a winner!
  18. "Threatened?" Come on, I just think the stuff sucks. I don't feel "threatened". Although this time around, my oncoming baldness certainly adds to the loathing...
  19. Abuse is located in the Political Forum; this is Arguments.
  20. I'm with you there, Jazzdog; Moriarity was fantastic, and it took me a long time to get used to Waterston. I took an INTENSE initial dislike to Orbach, probably because of the contrast to Sorvino. But I think that contrast was intentional on the part of the writers; I could be wrong. Anyway, I've gotten used to him as well. As far as Florek goes, I missed him at first, but Merkerson is so cool, I really don't mind. It was nice to see him back on SVU, though I don't watch it anymore.
  21. Okay, I normally don't show my other half things on this board, but she's gotta see this one!
  22. Great album, I agree. I find myself having less money to spend on music than I'd like, and spending too much on jazz as it is, so for some artists "Greatest Hits" packages have become essential, and this is one of the best!
  23. Speaking of the original...reruns in OCTOBER??? What a bunch of shit!!
  24. I rented Reservior Dogs and enjoyed it a lot. I bought a copy when the "special edition" came out, but to be honest I haven't watched it since, so I'm not sure how high I'd place it on my list of favorites. I couldn't put it as high as Pulp Fiction. To me, it's a much more straightforward movie, although I like the dialogue better than PFs. But of course, as you say, it has Keitel!
