Interesting. I find that with vinyl, I'm more involved with the music. That is, I'm more likely to be engaged in active rather than passive listening. A twenty minute album side is just about right for my attention span; then I can either flip the disc or grab something else. With CDs I'm more than likely to load up the multidisc player, get distracted and then at some point notice that the music has stopped...

I guess it just reinforces that old cliche...the penis mighter than the sword.

This new forum has inspired me...I've been digging through the piles of old vinyl, digging stuff I haven't heard in years, and my wife reminded me something I said long ago. Here's how the conversation went... Her: "I was wondering when this was going to happen" Me: "What?" Her: "You going back to records instead of CDs. When we first met, all you could talk about was how bad CDs were and how great records were!" Jeez, I didn't even remember...I was Jazzhound and didn't even know it!

I've grabbed a Coltrane CD maybe twice in the last year. It was inevitable, I guess; Coltrane was the first jazz artist I went nuts over, and with Coltrane and little else on the shelf, I'm not surprised that I'm giving him a long rest now. I've had more than enough Lee Morgan for a bit as well.
