Well, back when I first posted at the BNBB I was maddog for a bit (an old Navy nickname). Then for a while I was Mark Combs; have no idea how I came up with that obviously phony name...

I'm staying in California and being condesceningly smug about the whole thing. At least until the next earthquake... Seriously; hope you guys in the path are safe; I used to live in Georgia, and although we never got hit full force, we often caught the edges of the storms. Not much fun!

I was getting them daily for a while, but I haven't received any since I replied to one with "You know, all I do with these if forward them to eBay, so we're both wasting our time." I don't know if that worked, or they just moved on anyway...

Confession time: I don't even have the original Jack Johnson, and I'm unlikely to get this. I just ran out of my Miles kick before getting to it, and there's just too damned much to listen to out there. Those of you who have been listening to jazz for years and years probably can't relate, but I didn't start really loading up on jazz until earyl in '99. I've got about thirty Miles discs, and that just may be all I ever own.

Speaking seriously for a moment (as if that's possible on this thread! ), can you imagine having your love life reported on like this every day? Jeez, it creeps me out big time!

Simon, I completely agree with your analysis. However, I'm not sure that there's anything we can really do about it long term. It seems to me that perhaps that's just the way men (and women) are, and to pretend that it is a problem that can be solved is to just buy into a fallacy of free will that simply doesn't exist. (Not really an argument; I'm just pondering a bit here...)

"Need"? No, I guess not. But it seems to me that the more contributors we have to discuss jazz, the better off we are. More viewpoints give us a more complete picture. Besides, even Mars needs more women! (Just not Pia Zadora, please...)
