  1. No kidding! At least you can clue him in to J. J. Johnson and Jack Teagarden instead of letting him think the trombone was stupid... Good luck, Templejazz. Not that you'll need it!
  2. I'm tempted, but I know I'll be watching it alone. This movie has absolutely everything my wife hates in a movie. She hates violence, she hates gangster movies, and she hates hearing the "f" word. Tough call...
  3. As one of the "Elia bashers" here, I should in all fairness mention that A Face in the Crowd is definitely one of my favorite movies.
  4. How heroic.
  5. I agree; hopefully the background shading on the new $20 is a step in that direction...
  6. Or if you're feeling mean, you can report the auction to eBay, and get it yanked; this is definitely a violation of eBay rules, at least in the U.S....
  7. I did pick up Spike when it came out, and really didn't care for it. I tried it a few years later and absolutely loved it. I guess I had to catch up! I don't know if anything after Get Happy can approach it and the earlier stuff for me; after all the later stuff would have to contend with my own nostalgic feelings for those LPs, and the age I was at then...
  8. Confession time: I prefer the Muzak version of the Beatles Fool on the Hill to the original. There's just something almost satanic about that version...
  9. Same here. The cats have one of those water dishes that looks like a fountain, if you know what I mean, so they get bottled water as well. Otherwise, the crud would build up in no time. Still, even in California I get strange looks if I mention that my cats get bottled water...
  10. ...that you audio freaks would recommend! I've picked up a couple of links here and there, but I'll bet a lot of you know of plenty. How about sharing? Thanks! Come to think of it, I'd like to see links to darn near ANY sites for equipment, reviews, etc. After my last bout with a virus, I lost all of my links, so darn near anything is welcome...
  11. Eric-I stopped at the same point, and would also appreciate any recommendations for material that followed! Michael- I must admit, that is a tempting argument. A lot more music for a decent price; hard to beat that!
  12. The next question, of course, is why am I not at eBay listing my Lee Morgan box....aw, I just can't do it. No wonder I'm broke all the time!
  13. He finally bid high enough to meet the reserve price.
  14. Strangely enough, I had only Meets the Rhythym Section for a couple of years. It was okay, but just didn't impress me that much. After getting Smack Up, I'll go with that one any day. Haven't tried his later stuff yet; maybe someday. Let's face it, after waiting until 40 to really dive into the jazz, I'll never catch up with you lifetime listeners...
  15. You know, I have to say I like this stuff a lot myself! Add in the price, and *wow*!!!
  16. Having been bitten by that one myself, I hereby call for the banning of the "point b" smilie!!
  17. Damn....(just got back to this thread; it's been one of those weeks...)! So, is jazz cooler than I thought, or is Don Martin cooler than I thought? Maybe at some point ALL my favorites are connected...
  18. Wow...I don't know. It wasn't that long ago that I picked up the Rykodisc CDs, "for the extra tracks", as Costello is one of the few cases where I actually have the original vinyl. I don't know if I can buy 'em again...
  19. What's a....wait a minute; I'm not falling for that one again!
  20. Hah! This is one of those rare times when I'm actually speechless...
  21. Maybe I have a sick sense of humor, but my first thought was "wait a minute; is he really dead, or just researching his next book in which he describes his experience playing a corpse...
  22. I don't know if they're still available, but Bud Plant used to have them. I've got the Blues set from back when I had a comic book store.
  23. I can't take it anymore! Is the Howard Roberts LP that good? I keep hearing about it on jazz boards, and I don't think I've ever heard it. You see, I've got it among my fathers LPs out in the garage, but the only jazz I recognized in there was Dixieland revival stuff, which always left me cold... (If you're wondering why I'm asking instead of just digging it out, well...you should see the garage! )
  24. Sob! I confess! I'm a shallow, vain, obsessive moose who never goes out without making sure his antlers are straight... But I must admit, I'd love to have that mirror Couw posted...
  25. Straight, No Chaser would be my choice. Monk's Dream must be a different disc than I remember...let me check. Yup. Never mind; I was thinking "Monk's Blues", my least favorite Monk of all...whew!
