  1. By the way, since this is the only beer thread I see here at the moment, a hearty "thanks" and a tip o' the old antlers to whoever it was that brought up Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome on the old BNBB! (Been meaning to post that for a while, and kept forgetting; good stuff!!)
  2. Frankly, we probably should have had this discussion before the problem arrived. I mean occurred.
  3. Yeah, that would be nice, but is it realistic?
  4. Wow. This is the second place on the net in as many weeks that I get to mention Mingus' Remember Rockefeller at Attica. It must mean something...
  5. If only we had software sophisticated enough, what we need is an "Inferno" forum, and any posts bad enough could automatically be diverted there...
  6. A miserable, pathetic 5. At least I got the Grolsch right... I would have done better with a Moosehead in the picture. Or maybe in the hand...
  7. RT, I know where you're coming from. I had a dream when this board started of a political forum where serious discussion was the norm rather than personal insults, kneejerk left/right screeds and (now that my favorite internet pal in the whole world is here) "Israel is perfect and everyone else is an antisemite" vs. everyone else threads. But you know what? It ain't gonna happen. The only way you could make the political forum you want is to ban Greg, Dan, Berigan, Catesta, Johnny, Alexander, Jazzmoose (thought I'd forget that one, eh?) and a few others. You could do that, but who's going to post there then? You'd be talking to yourself...
  8. Well....forget it; I don't want a whole lot of people to know about it!
  9. Just gave this puppy a spin tonight after a rest on the shelf, and it's still a keeper. I'm gonna have to give it a few more spins before I put it back. Good stuff, you three! I can't help wondering if a California tour will ever occur...
  10. Shoot, so even though I just got the same error message, I'll assume you got my reply, Use3D...
  11. Speaking seriously for a moment, I just tried again after reading your post, RT, and I'm getting the same result.
  12. Hmmm. I just got a popup as well...told me about a little blue pill that could help my mail failure; this is getting out of hand!
  13. I was trying to PM someone a bit ago to let them know I'd received their check for a CD (if you read this, you know who you are; thanks! ), and I keep getting a "mail failure" notice instead of the usual result. Anyone else having trouble, or is it just me?
  14. I agree, Jazzdog. I doubt I've read the liner notes on half my CDs. I used to, but I just listen to the music and skip 'em now. Now, I'll check out the booklet in a Mosaic set, because I expect (and get) some good information. But, realistically, how much info am I going to get from something the length of your average liner notes? I hope they are aimed at people new to the music, at least they can do some good then. Hopefully.
  15. Of course, once Disney buys one more congressman, the rights in the U.S. will be extended until 2524...
  16. Seeing your name on this thread, C.J., brought a smile to my face. I couldn't help thinking of Pat Metheny's stuff when I saw your name, and of course, immediately thought what liner notes!
  17. Well, once again you guys are damaging my wallet! I saw the 2 disc The Essential Earth, Wind & Fire in the store today and decided to give it a shot. Wow! What memories!! You know, listening to this, I can almost remember the seventies as a good time!
  18. I'm sweatin' bullets...I told the wife I was going to break down and order a set due to the sale, but I'd just get a small one. Any chance that the Capitol Jazz set, the Complete Savoy/Dial Parker set and four RVGs will come in a reeeeeal small box?
  19. Jeez, Alfred; am I reading this right? You got the 5CD Artie Shaw set for one friggin' Euro??? I am seriously impressed...
  20. Not to mention the breakneck speed at which some of the resulting lyrics must be sung...
  21. This may be the only group that came out of that "Sgt. Pepper" fiasco lookin' good!
  22. If this was the only song where vocalese had worked, it would be reason enough to keep trying! In the abstract, vocalese just sounds like a bad idea to me, but I keep hearing examples that I like. Admittedly, most involve Jon Hendricks. And bad vocalese doesn't bother me nearly as much as bad scat...
  23. I think he's right. And every listener should get paid whatever he got for writing the notes...
  24. Hell, they barely fit now!
  25. I dunno...I've gone over the years from being an enthusiastic liner note reader to someone who rarely bothers anymore. I expect something full of information, like Sonny Buxton on the radio, and instead I get someone practicing their Lord Buckley impersonation...
