  1. I realize no one is reading this thread, but I feel a rant coming on, and what better place than a thread no one sees? Why in the name of all existence do I have to hear Crazy Train every time I watch a hockey game? Is Crazy Train the national anthem of Canada? In fact, why is it that everyone who picks the music at hockey games is a metalhead? I've got to the point that I watch games with the mute button in hand.
  2. I grew up in rural Georgia in the seventies. Instead of assigning To Kill a Mockingbird, we saw Gone with the Wind. I wish this was a joke.
  3. Thanks for adding the blurb on the main forum page; I don't always see these things in here.

  6. Sure. I thought everyone did. I was told that if I didn't have that, The Great Escape, Kelly's Heroes and The Dirty Dozen, I'd be thrown out of the male baby boomer club.
  7. I was thinking about that after posting. Looking back, to what really attracted me to the music, I probably should have gone nuts buying McCoy Tyner CDs, not John Coltrane. You have to remember, I was coming to this from rock, not other jazz. The main attraction was just that there didn't seem to be any wasted notes. I can't really say it was minimalist, but there was a certain almost crystalline feel to the music that attracted me. As for why it clicked with me and not for you, it's probably that. I couldn't compare it to other Coltrane LPs, or even other jazz LPs so it became my 'jazz baseline'.
  8. Gladys Knight Scottie Pippen James Doohan
  9. Someone suggested this and it "took". I'd dabbled before, mainly Dizzy Gillespie stuff I had in my teens, but this was the one that lured me into the Jazz section at Tower for good.
  10. Never noticed how stupid this movie was before (though I haven't seen it in decades). A building in a sparse western town is on fire, and the front door is the only way out? That's about as moronic as you can get. Yeah, I know it's supposed to be a rip off of Yojimbo, or Red Harvest, or something, but that's just stupid.

  12. Pepto Bismal, water and juice. Now excuse me, I have to return to my religious services as I bow before the porcelain god...
  13. Pluto Nash Oops...scratch that one; I forgot. Veronica Mars Venus Williams Eartha Kitt
  14. Montgomery Burns Linda LaFlamme Smokey Robinson
  15. I dunno. When I think of "immortal immortals" in film, the first name I think of is Humphrey Bogart, and I've seen the back ends of dogs that looked better...
  16. It had been decades since I saw this; I always preferred my Python on the small box rather than the big screen. But I have to admit, this is good stuff.
