  1. Okay, I could live with that list if you just cross off numbers 7, 9, 10, 11....well, you get my drift I'm sure!
  2. I only have two of these, so I'll restrict my comments to them. There's no way I could part with Rumproller; I prefer it to Sidewinder. It's probably my favorite of Lee's "normal" (?) stuff (meaning I'd take Search for the New Land, Last Sessions, and Live at the Lighthouse over it, but I like it as much as Cornbread!). As for the 1+1, I can't add to the comments you've already received, except to shake my head in sympathy at Rooster Ties futile wish for Wayne's tenor to suddenly replace the soprano on this. Ah, it could have been a contender...
  3. Interesting article, Dmitry; thanks!
  4. Really. The Jacquet, and the Woody Shaw in the past, have reminded me of a death watch.
  5. Hah! I knew who it was before I looked...
  6. Yeah, mine are that color and came "upside down" as well. They look so weird "right side up" that I usually flip them over each time I play the set. So however they are now, they'll be the opposite next time I play them...
  7. That's not a woman, berigan, that's a little girl...
  8. I agree, couw. It seemed as though Lee was finally able to convince Blue Note that it was time to move on from the Sidewinder clones and get back to exploring. Fantastic stuff. And then he was gone...
  9. Well, let me be the first clueless poster to say I've never heard of them. Do they have a website I can investigate? Sounds like the gang over at the Bix board...
  10. danasgoodstuff, I'm afraid to look at those named after reading this...
  11. Oh my god...I've absolutely lost my mind...
  12. Man, that's some heavy shit...
  13. I think that the sports analogy is perfect, Dan. When we look at a journeyman player (I don't follow the game anymore, but people like Tony Phillips come to mind), we see them as second rate "never was" players, and forget just how good these guys had to be just to make it to the majors at all. I mean, hell; Michael Jackson couldn't make it past double A, and even that was a gift. Still, you can't help taking the term as an insult, especially when it's one of your favorites being tagged...
  14. So, I take it that "$280,000" was the wrong direction to move the decimal point...
  15. Does anyone know what the "buy it now" price was?
  16. I wouldn't rate this one as high as Search for the New Land, but I'd put it at a solid #2 on my Mogie list. Of course, I have a bias for larger bands...
  17. Personally, I think the best way to "watch" the Oscars is to read the "who won" list in the paper the next day anyway...
  18. You said it. Although I never cared for the basic metal stuff anyway, except for Black Sabbath when I was in my teens. If I'm in the mood for gut wrenching rock, I'd rather hear early Blue Oyster Cult or Led Zeppelin. Maybe Pretty Things. I dunno...AC/DC was really kind of "after my time", and I feel that it's a group that, if you don't have the nostalgia angle working for you, it seems awfully simple minded. Even the stuff I did listen to I rarely touch these days...
  19. I haven't seen it yet, but want to. The wife's dragging her legs over it; I'll have to use up one of my "my turn to pick the movie" cards. Darn; I like to save those for something really odd...
  20. The one that stands out in my mind was when I took Intro to Jazz at the local community college (at the time I had five jazz CDs; three Coltranes, Kind of Blue, and Time Out) and blew a question on a test by confusing Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus. I don't know how, dammit!
  21. Yeah, yeah, yeah; and to those of us familiar with American history, it reminded us of The Beatles and Lennon's comments, or maybe "Disco Destruction" at Comiskey in '79. Ah...those were the days!
  22. Yeah, but you weren't there the day we thought the boss said RAISES for everyone, and then held up a box labeled "Sun Maid"!
  23. I would think Kenny would fit in better in the soup section. Maybe Kenny's chicken (endless)noodling soup...
  24. Well, I must admit I'm beginning to agree with you. The song Here Am I, which I adored, really doesn't hold up that well to repeated listenings. I still like the baritone a lot more than you do, but... I'll have to give it a rest for a bit (and start concentrating on "Wahne"!), but I think I'll give it another listen Friday and see what I think.
