  1. I'm with the Beefheart school, but it's obvious they both have that crazy genius thing going on. I hear the Partch in the Beef, although I've never seen an interview where Don mentions him. Seems natural..sounds like desert music. The Flo & Eddie band never did much for me, but 200 Motels is a riot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd1FN_pbDsA
  2. ok.
  3. I know you're not a fan Chuck...I didn't get any exposure to Zappa until much later because of his age.
  4. hahahahahaha!!!! No, it's because.... (dirty little secret)... I bought the album this past weekend, thinking that maybe, just maybe, I'd finally GET Zappa after trying numerous times. Turns out I was wrong, but I'll save that rant for another day (or FaceBook). It's not the place I suggest starting!
  5. Dance Of Maya - The Mahavishnu Project
  6. Stretch "Jack Black" July 30, 2010 Live @ River St Jazz Cafe
  7. I heard this band play a few hundred times in the late 1980's. http://www.myspace.com/stretchtrio http://glennalexander.com There's a recent show on Dime. Local NJ legend, but Glenn Alexander is from Kansas. He was in the Mahavishnu Project for a year or two. One of his fusion bands is Stretch. He's playing a Charvel given to him by Alan Holdsworth in the '80s when Stretch was touring with him.
  8. I don't know about that. I love the underexposed band with Jean-Luc Ponty, the studio material from Lather (Studio Tan), the later chamber music (the Yellow Shark), computer music (Jazz From Hell and related tracks)...there's so many different periods after that to check out.
  9. Not always part of my diet, but they have been the main course many times.
  10. I thought it was a disappointment too.
  11. That sounds like a fun trip!

    Brand X

I spun this earlier this afternoon: For a long time Do They Hurt? was the only album I owned by Brand X, eventually I bought 'em all on vinyl and later on CD. I heard 'em at the Bottom Line in '92 or '93 when they got back together as a trio. I really enjoy Percy Jones bass playing, for me, he's the star of this band. ...and I heard Percy with Tunnels at the Bowery Poetry Club a few years ago - kind of a disappointment, the synth player was way too loud.
  16. This thread has become kinda weird. Other than that...it's business as usual.
  17. I really enjoyed my spin of Atem this week, didn't really like Electronic Meditation that much this time around.
  18. What did Egg* use? * We're talkin' Dave Stewart, right?
  19. because I don't care. I'm more interested in what they sound like.
  20. Frank Zappa's Musical Language.
  21. It's probably already too late, but don't let it go to your head.
  22. Never heard of 'em. Tell us more. Paul Dunmall is the only member I've heard of.
  23. I have a problem with Vitamin D, they did a blood test a 3 years ago and found it. Almost a year ago I had a spill and broke both(!) elbows...we then found I also have a bone density problem so I'm taking calcium too. Nothin' but fun, I tell ya.
