Too late, I've been dead since 2006: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/112473723/james-joseph-sangrey

I've never heard of Sonny Boy Williams. Thanks for sharing. The tenor player is catching my ear, very Lester-ish but not at all in the "grey boy" way... Who was doing this in 1942?

My new all-in-one is wireless by default and is already getting hinky about it, going to hook up USB style soon, and when I do, I will scan and post this article/interview(?)if you're interested. That's also the issue where Dr. John tells the story about some cat hearing Coltrane and jumping into a swimming pool to drown himself, or something like that. This was in 1975, and for most people, myself included, his deeper background was not known, so it was a fun read.

That bass voice...where have they all gone? Dare we consider the conspiratorial emasculation card?

Just do like they used to do in the bad record stores and turn the treble waaaaay down.

MLB 2018: let the games begin!
JSngry replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
When I was a kid, my dream was to find cards of players who crossed over from the Browns to the Orioles, coseutive cards, from one to the other. I failed miserably, but did find out that not only were Browns cards hard to find, but also that when you did find them, that was some weird shit, them Browns cards were! -
Geez, touchy today, aren’t we! Old people should bond, not bite! I personally believe that what ultimately matters is what is played rather what it is played on. I also believe that anybody who feels otherwise is just being silly. I myself am often silly about any number of things, so...it’s not an issue for me, being silly. I would encourage more silliness, actually. But not stupidity. THAT would be wrong!

Until now! Seriously, it means nothing other than one thing is absurd, and so is the other. But if you get fed, hey. I very much like that Flanagan cut, btw. What he plays sounds better to my ears played on the Rhodes than it would on an acoustic. Any pianist with ears to hear knows that they're not the same instrument and adjusts accordingly.

Infamy still within reach! -
I never cared that much for the band, the singer, the record, or the title. But it fit at the time, so, ok, sure, we were all going to live forever or else die trying, so, you know, screw consequences, never mind the global responsibility that comes with personal irresponsibility. But using this title in these times seems terribly tone-deaf (even if it's being used with full-frontal irony, which I very much doubt).

Is that worse than anything the St. Louis Browns had? Or is that something we have to look forward to? -
I've never seen Hank Aaron play basketball (casually or otherwise), so I don't know the answer to that question. If you have, then I'll stipulate to your opinion. I'll tell you who was a good basketball player - Tommy Flanagan (no, not the Jon Lovitz character). People who freak out about Rhodes "just because" are like people who eat rice with a knife.

Giving Hank Jones an electric piano is like giving Hank Aaron a basketball - different game altogether, although in both, hand/eye coordination and quick reaction time (or the lack thereof) will make you or break you.

yep. This came in yesterday: https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2018/09/the-myth-of-sex-drugs-and-rock-n-roll-is-not-an-ex.html

Sex, Dope, and Cheap Thrills Yeah...how's that working out for everybody these days?

Now more than ever - keep a-movin' Dan, don't you listen to him, Dan, he's a devil not a man. Thank god they found some water, not everybody does.

Oh no’s! Elon Musk smokes weed on Joe Rogan podcast!

Yeah, those tiles need to happen, if they can. That would be a game-changer, long-term, especially if tax credits could happen. -
What Classical Music Are You Listening To?
JSngry replied to StarThrower's topic in Classical Discussion
I know what you mean by "catchy hooks", but I lol thinking about somebody seeing that and plunging ahead thinking it's going to be a melodyfest like such things used to be. Actually, I think he's very good at using those things as he does. They're there but never in a normal catchy-hook fashion. He does the "recontextualizing" thing as good, if not better, than many, many people, imo. -
Tracking down, yes. Paying a whole big lot for, no. But at a good price, yes, definitely.I like the one with Chick/Richard Davis/Elvin, not as much for the horn players, but just to hear those three hook up. But yeah, they gots the Garnett (who frankly seems a bit of a one-trick pony sometimes to me with his one thing. But only sometimes). And they does have good Joe Farrell, which is not a thing I seem to find as much as many do.
