  1. That it is one,
  2. Who, the record producer or the Yankees broadcaster? Or both?
  3. yeah, I get that. But - Shirley Scott. And Grover doesn't diminish anything by his presence, I'll put it that way.
  4. and is that HIS real name? I mean, it's all show biz, and a catchy name never hurt anybody.
  5. I'm not needing to "leave him alone about it". I'm not doing anything to him about it. It's a really catchy name and I was wondering if is his actual given name or if it was close to catchy and he went ahead and took it all the way in.
  6. Riccardi, I don’t doubt. It’s the Ricci part that I wonder about. But who know, maybe his parents were fans of the show. If he’s that young, he’ll who knows? Parents been giving TV names to their kids for quite a while now.
  7. No doubt to all that, but is that really his name? His real name?
  8. Nothing in particular to call out, but I find the shifting interpretations of a lot of 20th Century repertoire to possible be an ever-evolving view of what "right" is/was to begin with? Especially the 2nd Viennese School, "Lulu" in particular/extreme. Where we're at with that now vs. what I've heard of the earlier/earliest cases sounds like it's just now getting "there", if you know what I mean. Anybody with greater (hell, any) insight into that, please expound at length, as they say.
  9. Is that his real name? Is he perchance married to somebody named Luci? Just wondering.
  10. If I could die and be known worldwide as "Lazy Jim", and have it be said in admiration rather than scorn, I would consider that winning at life. RIP to a winner!
  11. same, with the caveat that the key word there is "probably". I've yet to hear anything that surpasses the Dot "How High The Moon", though.
  12. I've had some of my shelves for about 35 years as well, and I noticed just the slightest bowing on them when I took them apart last month. Not a whole lot at all. But when I put them back together, I flipped the over anyway, so they can spend the next 35 slowly warping back.
  13. There's always Melville Huey: https://www.ancestry.com/genealogy/records/melville-huey_12717625
  14. A co-worker in the cubicle right next to me who has a daughter+significant other who just flew into Hawaii last night. They were doing a beachfront Air BnB thing and have been told they'll be evacuated to "Uptown Maui" (whatever that is?) as soon as supplies have been loaded in. Airlines are waiving their rescheduling fees to get everybody out, but apparently that process was saturated as soon as it opened. They woke up at 5 AM today, and that was when they heard the news for the first time in two days. Wow.... I don't know the science, but it seems that a hurricane like this doesn't really have all that much to stop it or slow it down before it gets to land. Not unlike an Atlantic storm hitting places in the Caribbean before heading up the coast or into the gulf, unimpeded access. On the "bright" side, that's a really stupid name for a hurricane, imo.
  15. Based in Lancaster, PA, WebstaurantStore is the largest online restaurant supply store serving food service professionals and individual customers worldwide. Dude, carpe diem! Not sure if this is anything but a local thing, but there's Sontava! Habanero sauce, formerly in both XX and XXX heat levels (now just Hot and Extra Hot) . It used to be on every grocery shelf, but then Jardine's bought it and distribution seems to be more limited, plus the recipie has changed a little (neither better nor worse, just different) as has their country of origin.. It's still available at consumer-friendly prices though, and is my everyday alternative to Blair's which the last time I looked (a while back) had gotten a tad pricey. https://www.salsaexpress.com/p-5263-jardines-sontava-habanero-hot.aspx Go figure all that...still a good choice, imo.

  18. And you don't want to have your LPs stuffed so tightly that they're in the shelving equivalent of a trash compactor either, because then, one inconsistency get transferred to all. I try to have mine all with a little looseness, and walk by them every so often and wiggle them around, just to reset whatever distribution patters they've settled into. But keep in mind too that I will buy absolute shit-condition LPs and put them right next to the most pristine pressings one could have ever gotten at the time. Of course, vinyl ticks aren't contagious, but cover weirdness can be, over time, warped cardboard, that kind of thing. It's really not a big deal, but I try to build potential imperfection into my maintenance routine, not unlike a gardener plans a plot. You want perfection, allow for imperfection, and then Basically, this part of your collection needs to be based on sound basic physics and the carpentry techniques thereof.
  19. If the shelves are going to be full, sticking a support in about hallway of that length (but no more than that) won't hurt anything. It might not even be necessary, depending on how thick your shelves are. But, you know, even the best wood will warp eventually without support under the cumulative weight of buttloads upon buttloads of LPs. Plus, dividers break up the horizontal weight of the rows, which, unless you're going to be able to keep every single LP at a perfect 90-degree vertical angle every day for the rest of your life, you ARE going to have. But for sure, use thick lumber (or whatever substance you're using), at least one inch thick, preferably thicker. Solid wood too, not particle board.
  20. Oh, it's interesting. How much, if any, of it you want to believe is entirely your choice, but it is interesting. A while back, I found some introductory Masonry literature in a dumpster and of course pulled it out and had a read. Nothing far out, but it was pointing towards "mind power", the ability to develop your mind past that of the average joe. I have no problem with that, but did wonder why you need a "secret" organization to teach that. Historically, yeah, ok, there was a time when science was considered heretical and dangerous (uh, last week, maybe?) so sure, an underground thing was needed. But today, it seems like so much flash-and-bang show. If that's all they're going for. I have a neighbor who got into Masonry about 10 years ago. He was well into his 40s, maybe his early 50s, so not one of these young guys who do Shriners and all that. He would tell be stuff that he was "learning", and I was like, dude, in the first place, yeah, whatever, I've no doubt about only some of what you're saying, and secondly, you're not supposed to be telling me any of this, right? And no, he wasn't. And yes, he stopped. From all I can gather, the higher degrees are all about demonstrated mental discipline as demonstrated through personal service and accomplishment. Now, the term "mental discipline" can mean a lot of things...the "powers of the mind" can take you to some funny places if you let them.
  21. I just wonder what was really coming out of that oboe...
  22. Go to the grocery store and get your own!

  24. Their functional use (at least where I've lived) is essentially the same though. Table sauce that you put on anything/everything. Literally. Been there done that, no problem going back and doing it again. The chipotle Tabasco is actually quite beguilling, btw.
