Keep in mind that Dizzy evolved his bands, so things like grooves and interludes also evolved. I'm a fan of knowing as many options as possible, but for playing, pick one you like and do it until you don't like it. That point may or may not ever come!

Dude, they're going to rip it onto their phone and then do shuffle. Between this and all the 50 bajillion other things they already have on their, there is likely to be more than enough variety for any personality they will form. -

Yeah, I've heard all sorts of live shows, and as far as different versions of "Young and Fine", point taken, but on those gigs also comes different versions of "Elegant People" and oh hell yeah, I'm find with that. So for future market, yeah, please keep doing that, get the tapes, clean them up, and put them out. -

Truthfully, I think the strategy now is to do this "big box" kind of thing to give newcomers the strategy of getting the whole thing at once at a price they can pay. The existing market pretty much has all of this already, and there will always be a few who upgrade for packaging or collectorism (a condition which I fully appreciate but can no longer afford), but really, the band is over, and they have a finite officially released legacy. So, just like you can now buy mega boxes of legendary conductors, soloists, and composers, you can now get a mega box of some of the more serious historical jazz artists. Younger people of the future, if they are engaged in the process enough to buy anything, are just as likely to buy this as they are a buttload of individual albums. And in that sense, history definitely has the effect of compressing time. You can literally live, what, not even two full decades in a matter of days, in or out of actual order. -
I'm still waiting for somebody to decode the intro to "Ko-Ko" (Bird, not Ellington).

Delighted to share. It was a giddy time, really it was! Roberts vs Koufax was, like, wow, here we go! I mean, literally, go, my dad made the decision to drive to the Dome, and it was almost an hour drive from church (which was in Crosby, Texas, so when the hurrican chemical factory disaster almost went mega, yeah, I know where Crosby, Tx was!), and I had been bugging the old man for a few days anyway, and then after church, I guess god spoke to him and said, hey Chuck, take you boy to see Robin Roberts pitch against Sandy Koufax, and Chuck heard the voice of god and went! LO! It didn't work out, because apparently god was saying that to a BIG buttload full of people, because, seriously, literally, SRO. We had to wait in line just to get to the ticket booths, and that NEVER happened for Astros games, even in the inaugural season of the Dome. So for real - giddy times! Let it be noted, though, that the memory of my dad's decision factored heavily into seeing it to it that my son got to both see Nolan Ryan pitch and go to a World Series game, both when he was old enough to have a lasting memory of at least being there. A good dad makes a lasting positive impact, and I had a good dad. -

NPR: https://www.axios.com/npr-news-chief-resigns-amid-sexual-harassment-allegations-2504955190.html?utm_medium=linkshare&utm_campaign=organic England swing like a pendulum do! https://www.axios.com/british-defense-secretary-resigns-over-harassment-allegations-2505052175.html?utm_medium=linkshare&utm_campaign=organic I'm doubling down on the odds that this is more than an election-result conspiracy, this is more like a Western World sexual awareness moment of zeitgeist, all of us who have acted badly should not pretend otherwise, although, it'll be so much bette3r when Jane Average can report being predatorized by Joe Average and have it taken seriously without it being betwe Joe and Jane Average, we are either going to evolve or not, and ok, we will evolve, the question is how long will it take and who are the holdouts going to be and for how long. I mean, there will always be beasts among us, but emboldening or otherwise jsutifying them is nothing more than a short term avoidance of a long term inevitability. Either that, of the world really is coming to an end. -

Oh hell no! He might have provided some new/different/stimulating(or not) settings, but Wayne has always been Wayne. By that I mean, where is a Wayne Shorter performance that does not sound exactly like Wayne Shorter? -
Never seen it in a fake book, but then again, the few vocal books I've come across have either very recent or very old. Then again again, the song was premiered by Dick Haymes in a movie called Billy Rose's Diamond Horseshoe and was apparently:(?) so disposable that it was not included on Haymes' own record?!?!?! Not even sure if that was the biggest hit from the show!

I'd say that as time passes, it becomes easier to see how truly innovative the band was, although after Jaco left, the output did become,uh...patchier. The music stands up as music, as composition, as improvisation, as orchestration, the whole thing. "Fusaion" ultimately fias as a descrtion, at least the term as it is generally perpetrated today. This was not some jazz-rock "hybrid", this was great musical minds making frequently great music. Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinlul did not "need" Jaco Pastorius, although once they got him, they certainly knew what to do with him, which as it turns out, is more than he knew what to do with himself after it was all over. Jaco changed bass playing, but he did not particularly/fundamentally change Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter. -

Astros counter with Robin Roberts. The game was literally SRO, as we found out when driving to the Dome after church, couldn't even get bleacher seats. The old man got the whim, though, and made the drive. Never will forget that. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/437423-robin-roberts-remarkable-summer-houston-1965 https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/HOU/HOU196509050.shtml Hope the Astros defense is better, 52 years later. Although if Yu gets the win, i won't mind one bit. -

In terms of moral courage, "they should have spoken up" is not too unlike blaming everybody before Rosa Parks for going to the back of the bus. -

About 10 years ago, CD Baby was doing what looked like a big dump of Teo Records inventory. I think I bought all they had and liked most of them to varying degrees. None actually sucked. That's the best I can offer w/o being home. Stylistically, they're all over the place and some won't really appeal to "jazz fans". But oh well. Yeah here: https://store.cdbaby.com/Search/dGVvIG1hY2Vybw%3d%3d/0 Looks like mostly downloads now, maybe. But most all off the ones with the generic purple covers can be fun, and The Black Knight is really interesting: https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/teomacero17

Dammit! I got that Teo record. I got a lot of Teo records, actually, records of Teo, Teo not producer, Teo. Some are many better than one might expect!

A reminder that suspensions are immediately appealable. To that end, here is food for thought on a table where pretty much everybody save Yu Darvish is an asshole (and who would argue against that?) : https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2017/10/28/16565730/manfred-gurriel-suspension-mlb-racism -
I'm still not all in on Duke Jordan, to be honest. Important figure, yes. But... BTW, it was The People's Choice, Leonard Feather, who compared Clark to Art Farmer, liner note's of Jackie's Bag.

The 50 Best Jazz Saxophonists Of All Time
JSngry replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Yeah, well, lists, record company/hipster fornications, and no Don Byas, two wrongs don't make a right, three lefts do, but left off is not getting off, much less getting right, so let me amplify Chuck's sentiment to a fully enunciated fuck it. Then I read the comments and hope I die before it gets any more stupid. However, being a reactive person by nature, my luck won't be that good. This is all fake news, btw. Might not be Russian, but it's still fake. There is no such thing as The 50 Best Jazz Saxophonists Of All Time, it don't work like that, and if it does, then I repeat - fuck it. -

The whole year? No, even without any further information, no. They're just now getting the cojones to have a code of conduct for fans. https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2017/10/28/16565730/manfred-gurriel-suspension-mlb-racism All the more reason for MLB to get some training in place, though. If there is a clear expectation of what will and will not be tolerated while functioning as an employee, the easier it is to impose a punishment. Right now, it's pretty much interpretaional. -
Excellent, and recorded even better.
