  11. I don't understan the description of Silva's BYG records as "Euro free jazz". Silva was not European, and on those two albums the balance (at times preponderance) of the personnel is American. The music certainly was American!
  12. The October 25, 1954 Monk Rollins session. Hard to believe that this was Sonny's last recording before he admitted himself to Lexington and didn't record as a leader again for two years.. For somebody whose life was in such deep disarray, his playing here is assured and deeply substantive. Perhaps credit for that goes to Monk? No matter, it's such a rewarding set of music, Never get tired of it, and always get amazed by it. I'd love to find this 10", even if it was just the cover:
  13. Can't say that I live in bar band world much past the time it takes to play a gig and get paid. Not enough for me to hold on to after it's over. But the energy and communication (unevolved as it so often is) certainly is real, and is missing from too many jazz gigs. No reason it shouldn't live there too.
  14. I like a good fruit salad.
  15. I like how the Groovies play Beatles songs like a bar band who's not playing for anybody but the people in the bar. That's how it should be done, straight and to the point, no pretense, just drink up and let loos, nobody's in this but us. Like the Beatles in the Cavern Club. Just a really good bar band.

  20. Yeah, it was the piano playing that raised my eyebrows. His piano work is always intriguing of course, but that one seemed a bit...more. To Spotify I'll go then. Thanks!!!
  21. What's your take on this one? Kinda disregarded it at the time, the song list seemed a bit redundant, randomly heard it about a decade ago and it seemed like a fresh progression, now wondering if I would enjoy revisiting yet again. Would go to Spotify but it's Sunday.
