  1. It might be relevant to note that it's "Yony", not "Yoni"...two different things going on there....
  2. Not sure if it was a case of moving back or just naturally moving back and forth.
  3. Dennis Menke Tom Henke Fred Hemke
  4. The Baltimore Bullets The Baltimore Colts That Used To Be The Miami Seahawks The Baltimore Colts That Used To Be The Dallas Texans
  5. Fully-ish understand why/how it could never/never did happen, but in theory...considering how well Jackie did with Grachan's thing, wouldn't it be worth a consideration to ponder a pairing of Jackie with Alan Shorter and/or his book?
  6. Female, and Polish. Obvious "Threnody..." offshoot, but it's a game not well-played if not played perfectly, and I do think this is.
  7. "As I walk this land of broken dreams, I have visions of many things." I mean, jesus, right there, that's it, game over, right there. Win, forever Win. Forever.
  8. Johnny Depp as Harry Evans, Jeff Goldblum as Bill Evans, just to a straight re-creation of The Universal Mind. With bonus commentary by Lisa Kudrow as Valerie Cherish as Helen Keane, and with special introduction introduction by Morgan Freeman as "Roston" (voice only). Directed by Rob Reiner and/or Ron Howard. How does that not work?
  9. That's one of the greatest records ever made, only made greater by the song itself.
  10. Just bend him in half.
  11. Larry King as Symphony Sid. You'll only hate it until you see it. Then you'll wonder what took so long. After that, you'll be delighted that it was finally done so that it will never have to be done again.
  12. Sweet Honey Bee Honeybee Gillis Honey Cone
  13. Glad to have that confirmed. I was wondering if I was even more ignorant than I know I am.
  14. Chet could rock the sunglasses and the junkie phrasing and the prom tux, that's why he gets the movie.
  15. Thanks for the review. There were some brisk readings of Le Sacre in the 1950s - I'm thinking the Dorati Minneapolis? - but I get what you mean. It's amazing to me that 100+ years later, Le Sacre still shocks audiences. I don't know if that speaks to the inherent power of the piece, or the cluelessness of the audiences. Or both. It just seems that anyone with the wherewithal to buy a ticket to hear an orchestra play might know something about 20th Century music. Unfortunately...ya' know? I talked with the principal trombonist of the PSO, he's somebody I do the occasional wedding gig with (sic), and I sensed that he was very proud of having been a part of this, that it was more than just another gig for him. I told him I was happy to have bought the tickets, that it was more than just another show for me as a local listener. Maybe not in The Bigger World Of All Time, but...nobody alive today saw the Grand Canyon being formed, but there it is anyway, you can pretend it's not there, but good luck with that.

    Willie Maiden

Tinsel, at last on you Tube. Some guys played their heart out, Willie wrote his heart out. And played it, too. Arrangement - gorgeous arrangement - by the otherwise cringe-inducing (for me) Rob McConnell. Just goes to show ya'.
  17. Let's hear it for arranger Mike Abene. Alto solo by Lanny Morgan. Truth be told, that's a very good album by a very good band (as I know you know), anachronistic though it was becoming, claustrophobic as it might have been feeling from a lot of different perspectives.
  18. Ok, this has not been on YouTube before (or not for a very long time, if so)...here's the first time I heard Ronnie Cuber. Just balls on ATTACK mode, but when you're 15-16, you go for that kind of thing, and from time to time, I still do.
  19. If good taste and/or real-time simultaneity are not deal-breakers, here ya' go (once the alto solo is over)!
  20. Well, at least he had good teeth, or so it appears. Best junkie teeth I've ever seen, that's for sure!
