I have ordered and received the above CD, and can report that this is indeed the source of the YouTube clip, as well as that it is a very interesting document of the Innovations Orchestra. We have 2 CDs worh of material, including a June Christy set. This was one of the very first public appearances by this group, and all that you might think comes with that does indeed come with that. Band and audience both seem to still have "jazz" rather than "concert music" in their collective blood. A relative obscure but definitely worthy addition to anybody's Kenton collection.

Oh, I know. I've beholden many, and have been beholden as well. One thing I have determined, though - I will not work for an asshole any longer than absolutely necessary. I'm damn good at what I do, in every way, and I've cultivated an "internal customer base" that appreciates me (and I them, it's all about mutual respect) and that's worked out just fine for all concerned. They need considerations from me, they get them. I need considerations from them, I get them. Nobody takes anybody for granted, and nobody tries to take advantage. The few that have tried have learned that it doesn't work that way. Backs are got! Mutual respect goes a long way towards maximizing both efficiency and satisfaction for everybody. But it must be earned by all, and it must be balanced between all. Ain't no room for no ego trips and/or power games by anybody. Just get the job done and everybody be happy about that. Some people try to make it all about working "with" you instead of "for" you. Well, no. That won't get it. Gotta be some kind of boss (and boss structure). But neither will working for you instead of with you. I work for you, and we both work with each other. It just gotsta be that way, if you wanna dance with me. And I got no kicks against modern jazz, even when they try to play it too darn fast.

One click is all it takes: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-AC-E45A-Worldwide-Adaptor-Folding/dp/B00006HOL1/ref=pd_sim_e_3 Scroll on down for the package deal. Amazon has all. I wanted a clock/radio/phone combination a few years ago, looked everywhere, including once-sure-thing-technology-graveyards Radio Shack & Wal-Mart, nothing. I go to Amazon, they got a freakin' selection. Same thing with an old-style garment bag. Shops, no. Amazon, selection. A dazzling array, in fact. When faced with the choice between despair and Amazon, always choose Amazon.

Just as Communism is a political system & socialism an economic one, being an asshole is a personality trait. Being a good manager is a skill set. So, let's not confuse, the two. If, an asshole is a good manager, it's in spite of being an asshole, not because of being one. And if, an asshole, who is also a good manager, is unable to be a good manager, without being an asshole, that's the result of a character flaw, not the job requirement. The management skill set does require objectivity, and, the ability to make decisions that will cause people discomfort, and/or pain. But being an asshole is not a prerequisite for carrying out those imperatives, nor is it a required behavior in doing so. There are plenty of excuses for bad behavior, but hardly any justifications for, it.

I have the privilege to work from home. So I get to do office-type work in a non-office environment. It's a good thing, it is.

All tenor. Sweet date. Charles Davis is one of those players who's not particularly "profound" by conventional "critical" standards, but he's just so damn....personal in everything he plays that I end up saying OH WELL!!! about all that. Personal is profound in my book, so bring it on, some Charles Davis. And you - yeah, you - if you think you might even halfway like this record and don't already have it, go get it. Shouldn't be too hard to find. http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=r6cwv368fj Still sealed bitches, STILL SEALED!!!! And only fonineynine!

Or harder. I mean, I've worked 12 hour days where it's been steady but relatively easy, and 8 hour days where I've busted my ass into a coma. Almost. Then again, my job is a mandatory 40 hours with all the overtime I can eat, as long as the workload supports it, which it usually does. My personal preference is to have minimal (if any) carryover from one day to the next, so I get to proceed accordingly. Volume & difficulty are seldom synonymous with the work I do, so I guess I'm an outlier, or whatever the dataticians call it when a reality doesn't return a result that fits into their grids. All I know is that I work long, and I work hard, but not always long and hard, which, hey, that's not work anyway!

Is the question how hard you work or how long you work?

I don't know what "enhanced for stereo" here means, since it usually means "we made it sound godawful". They didn't,

Looks to be quite the Shady Grady, but still, 16 cuts from 1945-1947, and since I don't yet have the Crhonocologial Classis Wilson offerings, this one is certainly a welcome addition to the collectiobrarychive.

I'm not at all fond of the habit some people have of mispronouncing "stop wasting my time, you meaningless piece of shit" as "ok, take care now!"

Another one from the collection of Theodore Jarvis Jr., who did not write anything on the record at all, and wrote only his name on the jacket. But on the paper inner sleeve about an inch away from the label-hole, he did write "There's a world". Who are you, Theodore Jarvis Jr.?

Who are you, Theodore Jarvis Jr.? Who are you who signed your name on the back of this album jacket? Who are you who wrote III DANCING (the underlining coming off the stem of the upper-case "G") next to "I'm In the Mood for Love"(sic), "Red Top", "Sometimes I'm Happy", and "Parker's Mood" and put //// before the same songs on the record label? Who are you who must have played the shit out of this record, but lovingly so, as there is a constant but light layer of noise on both sides, the kind that you can hear through perfectly well, the kind that comes not from abuse but from steady, heavy use, probably with a tone arm that weighs as much as or more than a large tomato? Whoever you are, Thedore Jarvis, Jr., I bought your discarded (by you? by your family? by your survivors? by a property maintenance company?) record for 99 cents, and am enjoying it at least as much for the images conjured by the writing and the surface noise and the little water warpage of a very small corner of the lower left back cover that looks like a drink was set on it for just a few seconds too long. Your live lives on, Theodore Jarvis, Jr., although I make no claim whatsoever to being even slightly accurate in it's imagining. But a life where people dance to King Pleasure can't be too bad a life, at least for the moments where they do.
