  1. "Overjoyed" is a damn good tune, and an involved one too, very episodic in how it moves from section to section. Nice to hear that it's being played in this context.
  2. What Larry said Ben said. Talk to me about Lin next year at thistime, and let's see what there is to talk about. Might be a lot, might not be anything. Let's see. Until then, hell, it's just All Star break. Lots of basketball left, lots of adjustments for everybody to make. As far as team play goes, geez, what I saw of OKC in the 4th quarter vs LAL last night should scare the bejeebers out of any team in the NBA that is not young, confident, fast, and psychic. That shit was just MAD sooperstoopid crazy!
  3. I don't have a good feeling about this set, not as is. As you suggest, there is Dial stuff aplenty on here, as well as (as Allen says) Royal Roost stuff that's been around on Eerest, Savoy, and god knows where else. Some (a lot, iirc) of the live stuff is in bad need of pitch correction, and I'd wager dollars to dougnuts that this Disc 30 is nothing but a compilation of Prez & Bird material released on other CP Records albums. If this box is straight-up needle/drops and/or dubs of previous releases, nothing that's needed fixing will get fixed. As far as the original CPR label releases, they're a pretty mixed bag, to put it mildly. A few sets on there I've not yet heard, so there is some selected interest, but 30 CDs? Of needledrops and or dubs? Not for me, thanks.
  4. The possibility still exists of a false positive due to the failure to get the recommended double sample (if I'm remembering it right). But that would mean that MLB would have to admit to even more incompetence than they're admitting to now, and Braun would still not be completely cleared. There's really no winning scenario here...
  5. Very much looking forward to the Daley...and still tripping about who would go so far as to dub in airplane noise. That's just wack.
  6. So that airplane noise on the one track was dubbed in?
  7. Details, please!
  8. The Firehouse Five Plus Two was a Dixieland jazz band, popular in the 1950s, consisting of members of the Walt Disney Studios animation department; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firehouse_Five_Plus_Two
  9. Lowenstein? Tonight - just for tonight - let it be Lowenbrau. Please.
  10. There's things that bother me about that whole style of playing in general but I dug how this was a thoroughly "modern" "light classical" piece, and how nobody f-ed it up by getting too heavy in the interpretation. Very tasteful, and that main theme really really could be a Horace Silver tune!
  11. Not really digging any aspect of this one, but maybe a remixing would help. Anyway, whatever happened to Jean Turner?
  12. The main theme, that is... no idea when this was composed, but,,who cares? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npH-DULg5lI&feature=related Now taht I I don't ahve to worry about "having" to play "classical" saxophone, I can relax about it and say that Sigurd Rascher was a bad m.f.

  18. Listening now to the mastering from the recent Wayne box set, and it sounds like all that wobbliness has been fixed.
