I was getting the error message yesterday, too. But not now.
  4. Don't know how the Mac works, but on a PC you can go to Control Panel & there's a Add/Remove Programs function. Also, some programs have their own uninstall applet built in. You can right-click the program group and see what's there, or go direct to the program folder to see if the uninstall applet is there. As far as getting the new Firefox w/o the old, you can either get it through another browser, or else download the install package thru Firefox, uninstall the existing version, and then run the install package for the new version. At some point, we all, hypothetically, had to get Firefox w/o already having it, right? Either way, uninstall the old version before installing the new. Uninstalling should get rid of everything, not just the main program files, Other can speak more succinctly and/or in more precise detail about this, I'm sure.

  6. Don't know about a Mac, but it's a general rule of thumb to uninstall software rather than just delete it, if that's what you're saying you did. Uninstalling should get rid of register keys, DLL files, etc, Of course, that's what should happen, not what always does, but it's still the way to get rid of a program you'll no longer be wanting.

  11. This will do, thanks.
  12. And stories be stories. I could suggest reading the music press of the day for something to argue with/against/whatever. If you're listening to old music, read old magazines and such. But all these after-the-fact "guides"...I'm just not convinced. History is so easily owned. Less so the present (or then-present). propaganda machines (then or now) aside.
  13. Depending on what's between them, your ears can either be your best friend or your worst enemy.
  14. Your ears? Now there's a 20th Century notion!
  15. I've always had to work for my jazz and my dinner both, so I guess my answer is also "no".
  16. Nice to know that Gary Bartz can still do it ("rise to the occasion" of a premium playing situation). I saw him with McCoy back in '82 or so & he did it then.
  17. You talking about the Echoes Of An Era series? Yeah, they issued them like they were still 78s...I never understood that. But that is some of the purest, most fully realized bebop ever recorded, especially "Dizzy Atmosphere". Things had to be simplified if it was ever going to become the province of more than a handful of virtuosos, but hearing this most complex music realized in full flower at this level is startling, exhilarating, and profoundly humbling, at least for me.
  18. FWIW, the Dizzy Big band portion of the concert was booted on a Can-Am(?) LP. Don't know if the Ella stuff has turned up yet.

  20. I don't recall the DB article, but that's a funny story! I'm trying to remember when he went to India...was that '69?
  21. In terms of quality or just rarity? Didn't realize he was still playing in public in '68, Both, and he wasn't playing regularly, not at all. But for some reason he took this gig. Just a quartet, him, NHOP, Kenny Drew, & Tootie Heath. Magnificent playing, long & loose.
