  1. Would that I had ready access to that!
  2. Is today your birthday? If it's not, can we pretend? If it is, then hey, happy birthday to the ultimate sub!
  3. Nah, you're not the butt. People are. The superior human, such as Paladin, thinks ahead and attempts to graciously prevent stupidity before it happens. Ain't too many superior humans in the world, especially on a consistent basis. And doing mind-numbing work day in and day out don't help matters any, ya' know? I want to be like Paladin, but I usually end up being the yang idiot to the other guy's yin idiot. Happens every day. Every damn day.

  5. Oh well, you spaced and she didn't think. Mutual failure, none of it malevolent in intent, I'm sure. Such is life, and not just in the big city.

  7. I'm just saying, and this might be an age-difference thing, but between working with a lot of women singers over the years and working in a workplace where the boss(es) is/are probably more likely than not to be a woman, the one thing I've learned is that a kind word and a smile is always worth a try or three. Not just with women, but especially with women, and not with all women, but certainly more than not. Try a little tenderness, etc. Work tends to make people not smile, if you know what I mean, so turning that around is the first thing to do when faced with a need to change the direction of an interaction. Usually. Of course, bitches and assholes will always be amongst us, but I like to confirm the permanence of the condition instead of assuming it.
  8. So you didn't give her the chance to act on a superior suggestion because you assumed that she was a bitch? I mean, maybe she was, but...you gotta play nice with the ladies if you want them to soften up. One spin of that Roy Head record for you!

  12. Some of it is reflexive, but make no mistake - reeds can be very temperamental. They can go from good to bad literally in a second (although not usually), They can also get "second winds" like a runner, especially if a few parts of a few fibers go bad and you can get them relatively out of play by shifting the reed's position on the mouthpiece ever so slightly. You're looking at a piece of fibrous wood (which in all liklihood has not been cut as evenly/symmetrically as it should have been in the first place) being called to vibrate while interacting with fluctuating temperatures and moisture levels. It's pretty primitive really - get a piece of wood, cut it up, and make it vibrate. But when it works, ain't nothing better. Reeds were usually cool up until forty or so years ago...something to do with the cane crops, regions, something. But I'm old enough to have remembered when the things were reasonably consistent & reliable, although it was long enough ago that it all seems like a dream now...

The first freebie offers a choice of FLAC or MP3. No additional charge for the FLAC. Somewhere, somebody gets it. Not let's hope they don't get got by it.
  16. Impossible, almost. But some are "close enough" whereas others are "almost there". But most are just shit, period.

Two album-length downloads a month for $13.00? $6.50 for a new Braxton record every other week (maybe not litereally, but averaged out)? And no shelf space getting crowded as a a result? How can you beat that deal?

  19. Loved Kaufman, but not this. Go figure. But enough of that.
  20. Jeez, I can't even remember the last movie I saw...Julie & Julia, maybe, as far as theatrical releases go... I tend to have the reflexive laughter spasms when something unexpected and incongruous comes out of left field with a totally straight face. That's what usually gets me. Oh yeah, night before last, watching King Of The Hill w/my daughter - "Baby want a bottle? A BIG DIRT BOTTLE?" That one gets me every time. Andy Kaufman's conga guy, that too.
  21. Heard it back in the day as a boot, liked it a lot, agree as to its excellence, just not in the mood to buy it right now. 77-part of 79 were kinda "branch out from jazz" years for me, so I listened to/bought a lot of the punk/new wave as it came out...read Trouser Press, ordered import 45s, the whole deal. Immediately upon completion went into a hard and proilonged Jazz Militant phase, sold most of the stuff, rebought a few items over the years, but now feel a yearning to get back in a few things, including the first wave of Costello albums. Still good stuff there, Costello has skills, and has from jump. Biggest regret, financially, was selling a special WB version of Never Mind The Bollocks... that had all kind of extras. Haven't seen one since but I heard it goes (or has gone) for respectable bucks. Sold it and a bunch of other stuff to George Gimarc for what seemed lie a lot of money then...but got him to throw in a Blakey & a Joe Gordon Mercury 10" LPs as part of the deal, so hey...

  24. Yeah, I saw that link after posting that. Good site, really easy to see who's got what. All I really want is the albums plus all the released stuff that wasn't on the LPs. Demos are cool if "significant", and live stuff, eh.... And I'm probably (but am willing to listen to good arguments) willing to stop at Trust with these mega-expanded-deluxe reissues. After that it's more a case of "interesting" and less of "essential", at least for me.
