  2. Not really "Afro-Cuban" & not really "hard bop", but to quote the Dustellians:

I mean, maybe you have had enough of these folks, but...they're a helluva lot hipper than not. It's like if Barney Kessell had never left Oklahoma...

  7. We all know Johnny Cadillac, jsut like we all know Pimp Jackson. At least, we all should know them...
  8. Wow, check it out, it's one big lost eye joke. For real!
  9. Like Johnny Cadillac? We's all beautiful peoples, but we all ain't got a name like Johnny Cadillac. Life is not fair.
  10. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...ideoid=42739744 Percussion by Ed Shaunessy & George Devins, but you get Dave Bailey as well, visually and musically.
  11. I see no problem in leaving the stage per se, just don't leave the performance. Remain engaged wherever you are.
  12. Yeah, I have it...haven't paid much attention to it past the first few listens a few years ago...probably should revisit, thanks for the tip. I will say this though - Hubert Laws was one helluva tenor player.
  13. UP for the rest of the summer
  14. Bill Barton mentioned an obvious choice in another thread - the Hagans/Belden Animation/Imagination, a group that took its inspiration from drum'n'bass taking some of its inspiration from Miles.
  15. Agreed on all counts...never got to hear them live, but have heard some shows, and...yeah. It's time. Past time, actually... But they went there, and they went there well.
  16. Well, they do have a notch on the lower spine, but nowhere on the receipt are any of the items marked "C/O" or "LMTD", which is supposed to be the sign that they will not be backordered. I'd not hold my breath...
  17. You will be rewarded after some repeated listenings, but how much is not for me to speculate.
  18. Did not receive titles in bold: Lockjaw Davis Trane Whistle Lester Young In Washington D.C. 1956, Volume 5 The Jimmy Woods Sextet Conflict Sonny Stitt Stitt's Bits: BeBop Recordings 1949-1952 Thelonious Monk Monk's Music (advertised as the K-2 version, let's hope so...) it was. Jack DeJohnette The DeJohnette Complex Art Blakey Child's Dance Art Blakey Mission Eternal Cannonball Adderley Pyramid Let's see how/if this backordering thing goes down...
  19. Meditate on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyeyRHTHCNw...feature=related I liked Johnny Cash even when I didn't like country, which was, like, the first 22 or so years of my life. Johnny Cash always seemed real to me in a way that most of the rest of it didn't. And now that I better understand and appreciate that which I used to loathe, including the real-ness of it all (and after having fallen into a ring of fire or two of my own...), Johnny Cash still seems real to me in a way that most of the rest of it doesn't. Ring of Fire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lhf9U5Wf3Q I only recently found that the song mixes bars of 4 with a bar here and there of 3. Who knew?
  20. Exactly. It takes and returns, but in betwen... all bets (and paradigms) are off.
