It's weird since they're both from the same gig, I think that Master Of the Art is a stone classic, but Night Music is kinda ho-hum (relatively speaking). I'd say keep an eye out for the Griffith Park Collection LPs on E/M, espcially the live set. Fine stuff. Plus the Max/Clifford side. Dexter's E/M album is better than generally given credit for, but not significantly so.

If the technology is morality-neutral, then the battle is for the minds of the consumers, educating them as to the hows & whys of who gets what and why, why that's not a bad thing, and why expecting to get something for nothing is a sucker's game sure to bring it all crashing down sooner or later. Unfortunately, there is very little (forgive me if I sometimes think of ti as nothing) in the economic behavior of American society today (or in recent memory) that correlates to this. So at best, people gonna know better but make excuses, or at worse, not know any better and think you're crazy.

Even w/o Abene, it could be a very pleasant side. Maceo can play. Not everything. but what he can play, he can play really well, regardless of context. He was kinda JB's Fathead, and if Maceo, good as he is, ain't the all 'round deep badass that Fathead is, then JB wasn't the musically omniverous gourmet that RC was either. Parallell universes, or something like that. What I'd really like to do, and maybe this will be it, is to hear Maceo cast in a big band w/strings setting playing ballads and blues a la Hank Crawford. Just curious, how much tenor has Maceo been playing lately? Seems like there's been lots of alto, which is...kinda....Eb-ish....

I read an article in WIRED not too long ago stating that one of the survival strategies (and one that's showing signs of being successfuk) of local newspaers is to create a synergy between the print paper & community blogs. In a big city, that means that the paper serves the entire city, and the blogs carry over into the targeted neighborhoods. Encouraging reader involvement in creating/providing content is the key, and it seems to be paying off.

Yep, the Giants were not consistently focused enough to get it done, and the Patriots were too consistently focused enough to not get it done. Story of the season. I'm not a "fan" of this team, but I'm defintely an admirer. DAMN are they good. And I wish that more organizations, especially businesses, would take note that quality is achievable if you set standards, expect/enforce them, and don't make excuses when they aren't met. Businesses love their sports metaphors and parallels, but I don't think there's too many with the cojones to ante up for this level of game. Hats off to one of the all-time great teams, THE greatest if they go all the way.

But seriously, those liner notes talk about - in definite P-Funk jargon - what TV has done the minds of Boomers & beyond. Keeping with your "mental tattoo of commercial TV" remark. So it's not really thread drift as much as it is thread expansion. Still the same thought, just more of it. Which is what I tell myself every time I need to buy new slacks...

Yeah, this is an important point. A lot of "free" playing is really the micro-language of "inside" playing used to speak in a context of non-cyclical and/or non-predetermined structures. If you "get" the language, then the structures become less important. If otoh what you "get" is the structures more than the language, then what you've been getting ain't there no more, and well, hey. No real rights or wrongs here, structures themselves can be beautiful and endlessly fascinating things, as can micro-languages. It's all about what/if you want to get into/next to, and how far. A personal decision, that one is, and again, no real rights or wrongs in that regard.
