  1. CDU shipped the new one today. I am hopeful.
  2. It's like androgynous neutered virgins on meth, coke, and then some.
  3. Bird stopped by yesterday on the way home from the Rangers game. He confirmed that it's Sid.
  4. No, that's the problem - they usually get out of Texas.
  5. It was a good meal, that's for sure!
  6. That's not right, at least not imo. It's a common position these days, and there's plenty of truth in it, but it's not the whole truth.
  7. T-Bone, Shrimp Scampi over Japanese Bean Noodles, Asparagus, & Orzo. LTB was in a MOOD!
  8. Starting to feel fat?
  9. Yeah, a soft sell setup for the hard sell. THAT'S America!
  10. Dude - that's the DFW-area Oldies station. The programming's gotten as bad as the jingles, if not worse. Now, if you wanna get some primo Top 40 AM jingles, many produced right here in Dallas (the Tommy Loy mentioned is the trumpet player who used to play the National Anthem before all the Cowboys games back in the day; fine musician), then explore here: http://musicradio.computer.net/jingles.html I've listened to/downloaded a few, and I think there's some prime sample/sound-effect material there for the enterprising cultural bandit... I bet Phil Kelley knows a lot about this stuff!
  11. Well, if you got him to go back to his #11-heavy WABC-style (talk about high anxiety!), it would be cool the first time or two. But no more!
  12. Hot enough for ya'?
  13. But even that one has the splendid "Bulgarian Bulge"! And the whole rock/Indian/electric is often what retains my interest today. The "Hey Jude" on Fillmore goes beyond gimmickry into the realm of the genuinely warped, and the "Indian Lady" on Autumn is simply one of the greatest big band performances on record, period. In my opinion, of course. Agreed, though, that the pop element started taking over, and that was...unfortunate. That and the elements of "gimmickry" (which, in this case, I'll define as a new idea not fully thought out/mulled over/etc and subsequently presented in nothing resembling an organic form) are rampant. But when it works, it works gloriously. However, I don't have, but have heard, the later MPS Haiku, and it is pretty darn interesting indeed. Very organic, imo.
  14. By The Time You Get To Tuscon, You'll Be Reeling Surreal Hell Hip Hell, #11 Style You must listen to them all the way through to get the full impact. Especially #s 1 & 2. Trust me.
  15. It wouldn't even have to be a great one...
  16. Maybe Prince bought them to give as gifts.
  17. Did you go ahead and feel the fat parts?
  18. Ok. there's more, but it's a you-know-what to find. Not that I've been trying real hard, mind you. But I did find a really nice 1999 British MCA CD that contains the complete mono mixes of Under Glass & I Presume with two of the Trend sides w/Jerry Fielding. That LP set has, I think, the other two. Highly recommended, that MCA disc is, and not too difficult to find for a good price online. There's a DRG disc of Spotlite material as well that mostly (but not completely) overlaps the Varese-Sarabande disc, but it uses stereo mixes, some of which are pretty unsatisfactory. If the Varese-Sarabande does the same, then I highly recommend seeking out the UK MCA disc. No comparison! Still lacking on CD, though, is Listen! & On Hand in their entirety, and "Peg O'My Heart" from the Trend date (their 1954 debut EP). Give me those and I'll ba a happy camper. Details here: http://www.thehi-los.com/discography/ if you're interested, and I apologize for diverting your thread as much as I have.
