Try Bartok. The folk roots still ring true.
  6. Is a video the new blog? Or is that Tik-Tok? I'm old. We used to just bring records over to each other's house and hang out all night. If you had a record that sucked and wasn't funny as a result, you left it at home. And if you didn't like something you said so. Maybe even argued about it, why not, say what you mean, and mean what you say. No hard feelings between friends! Do people not do stuff like that any more?

I have liked Bjork. This, not nearly as much. Either way, I am not the target demographic, especially to play along with Tik-Tok memes. How cute. I'm a stranger on that planet and happily so.
  8. The Texas Observationers - Sometimes If You Look Stupid It's Because You Are A staple of the used bins in the parts, usually sealed!
  9. I jive, therefore I persist.
  10. If they have a smokin record, I would think they'd want to whet the appetite?!?!
  11. Sounds like a really wine record. Thanks for the push!!!
  12. "Airplay Starts Now" , what does that mean exactly?
  13. The Tatrai Bartok recordings were released in the US on the Dover label and can be found pretty reasonably often enough. Condition should be considered before going for the lowest price. But they are excellent recordings.
  14. Melons Magonzella - Bouncin' with Melons!!! Not recorded live, sadly.
  15. That's a good record. And an interesting one as well.
  16. Lots of other ways.

Having listened a little further...too retro for me to take seriously. The Tik-Tok thing is interesting as sociology. Would anybody be listening like this without the memes? If so, why? And whatever else it is, it's not jazz, unless it is, in which case, I don't need any jazz in my life.
  18. I originally had it on well-played cassette, so no complaints about the Select here!
  19. Would Stitt on Verve be significantly different than Stitt on Roost? How about Jonathan Winters on Verve!?!?!?!?!
  20. I have more than enough of my core beliefs, took care to do that before retirement. Now it's just a matter of paying attention now and then and carpe dieming if/when something I missed pops up, and/or something new comes out that I feel connected to.
  21. You're probably in the majority here actually...and I find that to be a bit (or more) of a gross oversimplification. Very 20th Century thinking, the rush to close the door and have a soundbite. I think he was disenchanted with the state of the world in general more than anything about Coltrane. I don't think he was that myopic about his life. After his last return, he played almost 50 years uninterrupted. That's hardly "adrift". And between the records and the bootlegs, there is more than a little great playing to be had. There's also plenty of unsatisfying work as well, but "adrift" is in no way accurate. Time for a new narrative, one based on specifics instead of hasty, overly simplified generalizations.
  22. East Broadway Rundown, the tune, is just a blues. I think he was more uncomfortable with life in general. How long after this was it that he quit altogether?
  23. The added S is a secure site thing. It only seems the be a requirement for some sites. No idea why that is.
