  1. High time indeed! You don't "visit" that sucker, you get taken prisoner by it. Willingly.
  2. The band Cream? Or the magazine Creem? (gimme my prunes before I get cranky! )
  3. Although I cannot comment on the particular performance in question, having not heard it, all I can say is that it's the singer, not the song, more often than not. As well as that I think it's about time that 30 & 40-somethings in the jazz realm start to confront the material that shaped them, as well as that that shaped their parents and grandparents. It's all good if you do the right thing with it. What that right thing is is up to the performer, but if nobody starts, nobody will ever eventually get it right.
  4. Too little, too late, totally unwelcome by all, I'm sure, but... It must be remembered that Chris and Danny know each other off the board, and have for some time (or so I've been told), which adds another dimension to their exchanges. It is my sincere hope that their rift can be patched and that we can continue to enjoy both of their personalities and insights minus the unsightly veneer of personal matters being taken public. Danny, don't be a TOTAL dick in public. There are lines, (and you know it), and not just of Peruvian Marching Powder. Would that life were that good, er..., simple... Bev, it's not going to make you feel any better (nor should it), but you were basically in the wrong place at the wrong time. You've been made a prop in a play that really has little or nothing to do with you, other than your continued appearance to (justifiably) protest. That's not cool for you, but that's what's happened. Who am I to be saying all this? Nobody. So fuck me, David, and good night for NBC news.
  5. Any list that has Sinatra on it and doesn't even list ONLY THE LONELY has no credibility with me. Not like that's the only reason, but...

    Rick Margitza

Here we have the answer to about the only unanswered jazz trivia question from Board BoomBoom: What former Blue Note artist is the son of a frequently-used Motown session musician? Margitza's dad was a violinist, I believe, and played on a BUNCH of Motown sides, including WHAT'S GOING ON. You didn't think it was Sidney Bechet, did you?
  9. Disc two is finished after what seemed like interminable delays due to more flu in the house (this time my son), seemingly unsolvable problems with getting the selections and genres to flow the way I wanted them to over the space of an 80 minute CD (solved by changing the concept, dropping/replacing some of the pieces, and rethinking their sequence), and the Thanksgiving holiday (caused by an act of Congress and solved by nothing). Going to take a nap now, and get busy making dupes tonight and tommorrow. Mailing WILL go out Monday, Tuesday at the latest. This has taken longer than I had hoped, but I think the result is two full CDrs of music to befuddle everybody at one time or another and piss nearly everybody off at least as frequently. In other words, it's stuff I love. Hopefully, you'll dig some of it too. Distribution volunteers, stay tuned for an e-mail tonight or tomorrow. I think I have a way to save everybody money AND expedite speed of distribution.
  10. I got the Thad & Mel TCB (w/Joe Henderson, btw, and NOT the same cut as on that Solid State side!), and enjoy it. The label is kinda hard to find in stores down here. Guess I need to check the website or dig deeper on line.
  11. The latest Mariano on some Enja subsidy is KILLER.
  12. This is the first I've heard of David Brooks. I'm curious, to say the least...
  13. Give me an analysis of the speech patterns of the NYT's home market and then we'll talk.
  14. My sentiments exactly, rvrn though I carried in some Vanilla Diet Coke on ice from the tv room.
  15. Is there still room in Vermont?
  16. I see no problem for now. If any of us haven't received a warning so far, we're not likely to in the future unless we bump it up a notch or two on the obnoxiometer.
  17. Overuse, probably. Possibly?
  18. The poll is not for your favorite pie, but for your choice between the two. I ask because there are some people who claim to not be able to tell the difference between the two, a claim I find difficult to accept, although there is a great similarity between the two. My fave might just be mince meat!
  19. It's not a given that everybody on the "no show" list had the warmfuzzies about Blue Note or that they wanted to be thought of as purveyors of the "Blue Note Sound".
  20. Cast you vote!
  21. You must realize that by me reading this thread from the bottom up, I had no idea what this meant, and was thinking the worst possible things...
  22. That strategy alone is reaon to be thankful!
  23. Three, Dude. Unless you already have that NEW ORLEANS DRUMS disc. You'll want that one too (and not just for Dodds!). Trust me.
