Oh yeah, check out the second bridge, where she does those shakes - there's no separation between the word "love" that ends the bridge and the one that begins the last A. It's like she's about to breakdown thinking about it, but snaps out of it before she does - "old love, new love, any love but true love...….for sale". Shattering, to use the cliché. I mean, I like LH&R just fine, and sure Joni Mitchell made "Twisted" cool for the boomers and all that, but this is the sort of thing that shows a person's deepest parts.

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee
JSngry replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well of course it's not. It keeps paying attention and evolves it's truths as it learns more things. But these days there are too many idiots who think that because science is not always definite that it just shouldn't be trusted, and that wishful thinking and cultural projections are just as good as actually knowing, limitations and all. That type of thinking is more dangerous than any disease. Hell yeah, science is not always definite. It would be scary if it was otherwise. -
Or maybe it's stress release, a way of trying to shake it away because counting the numbers would lead to a breakdown, the reality of just how much "old" and "new" there has been. There are statistics to be had there, whether or not a person can get to them internally or not. Dark stuff. And i think it's not accidental.

Not at all a swinging band, but that just adds to the vibe of a woman who recognizes that her existence to be spent solely in being used for the manipulation and benefit of others, that her fate in life is to show up and act like she's enjoying it - whatever it is. And then get paid. Period. I don't know that I've ever heard a less "coy" rendition of that lyric. Seems like everybody else sings it to men, and puts a wink in it. This one is not "to" anybody, it's FROM somebody and it's dark as hell.

No man, I was on record form the beginning saying that a judiciously selected and edited production would make for a good-enough record, and sure enough, it has. Nicely played on all counts! That original session..."frantic" comes to mind. But if you don't know that music, then then this makes for a very good B+/A- Messengers record at a time when we've not had one for a good long while, and may never have another one, at least not a studio date. As for that & , I've been meditating on it and have concluded that it's an ass. If the packaging is a stealth Unipack, that & is a stealth Grandassa model. -
best vocal version ever imo? RIP.

They should do an LP like that, something that came that way, do it up Unipack Style. I dare them. -
Check out THAT label, good luck getting to the real owners, if there are in fact any real owners... https://www.discogs.com/label/134001-Uniteledis At least Force got bootlegged to CD, so hope springs etc.

What's up with nobody noticing the real historical significance of this release - the first Blakey BN record to be released in a very stealth Unipack throwback package, on the CD. Sly! -
Also here: https://www.discogs.com/Archie-Shepp-%C3%80-Massy-U-Jaama-Unit%C3%A9/release/1818027 which looks pretty interesting, actually... The same label that gave us the epochal sheep/Roach Force...

dude - all the longer that I've been in LA was overnight for one night. but I made sure to go past Gold Star, get out of the car, and just stand there for about 15 minutes. It was, like, 7 AM, nobody there, and talk about hearing things...I swear I hear all that music still bouncing around from inside the walls. Of course, that was all just imagination, but if you know what that place is, you can feel those vibes. Also, same morning on the way out of town, drove by the Hollywood bow. Dude that shit was UNLOCKED. We just walked right in and got up on stage. Fucking crazy how that was like that. You're still a young man, you will be back. Dude, that's not translating well....

Amazon delivers in a big hurry...yeah, this one cleaned up real nice! I actually envy people hearing this for the first time, w/o having heard the "backstory" of the full session! -
Gale's albums preceeded Bley's work by several years. I think the Gale records are in line with things like Andrew Hill's Lift Every Voice, Freddy Roach's All That's Good, mixed in with what Archie Shepp was beginning to do, and some basic "in the air" Black Nationaist thoughts about community. They definitely were part of certain jazz and community currents of the time, although they certainly made their own niche.

"Pie Crust"...what a great, knowing title for a piece...such a thing in some cultures, pie crust is, a very personal thing...I tell my kids about it so they recognize that there are pie crusts beyond what you buy at the grocery store place.

I think Roy wins on threads alone, but Chico snatches it back by coming up on the inside with hair, facial expressions, and basic posability skills.
-
My wife is on all those mailing lists, Chico's, Talbot's, Soft Surroundings...let's just say that they all have a good eye for design, presentation, and, uh, product placement. and let's also note that Chico himself could execute a sharp turn on the sartorial front himself when called upon to do so.

Yeah, post-Muse Ricky Ford gets a lot of interesting a lot of the time. Explore with a modicum of confidence.

How asamant was the cat about not using the direct? Did he have to push for it, or was Rudy amenable with the first ask? -
Very, very intense tenor playing. At times disturbingly intense... Hell, any record that opens with a song called "Pie Crust"...if you grew up in a pie culture, you know what that's about. This ain't your mildly-interesting early Muse Ricky Ford...this is a guy with something going on inside.

A copy? Hell he took the mothership itself home, drove that motherfucker around like it was a Caddy from outer space, which of course, it was. -
Sleepy Night appears to be legit to the extent that they claim to be getting these tapes from the owners of the original radio broadcast tapes. I don't know how deep into legit that gets you (ankle deep would probably be the best to be hoped for...), but the previous one was certainly an improvement on existing bootlegs.
