  1. Lee on CTI or George Butler Columbia? How many mobsters were managing him anyway? If the answer is "0", then watch him move to Strata-East...what happens after that, given the ongoing evolution of that label's business model is anybody's guess and maybe doesn't end well. But you never know, and besides, what's done is done.
  2. And because of their - twice now - failings to get the "special code" discount thing worked out, I'm just like, hey, fuck the specials, I'll just buy some Pi when I feel like it...which is often enough! It's a great label, wholly worthy of support, just..."special sales" do not seem to be what they're going to do well. Expectations adjusted accordingly, enthusiasm stays in place.
  3. That should have been two different posts..about #s 4 & 8.

    Richie Cole RIP

I really did not like his playing, not at all. But I came to respect the hell out of him just being there and keeping at it in nobody's way but his own. Plus, we all owe him for life for bringing Eddie Jefferson into the spotlight like he did. RIP, and sweet dreams in Alto Acres
  5. Boomers suck. And I am one. "Digital generation" is adapting to this stay-at-home thing fairly well from I've seen. They're already adept at it and are much more likely to come out on the other side of all this well-positioned for the future in a lot of ways. I've learned a lot by observing how they do things. So...they've figured out the "when you want it" thing pretty damn well. There's maybe still some work to be done on the "what you want" part though... But yeah, on the whole Boomers pretty much do suck. They don't want everything now, they just want everything, period. And they don't care how they get it, as long as they get it. Rabbit is delicious! Hey. There's a reality-based reason why all these recipes exist in the first place...
  6. Not at all a surprising career move. I saw The Hawk gun down plenty of people with that arm of his.
  7. But seriously, what I hear you saying is that you have an interest in eating meat, and a disruption of the ability to do so will make you unhappy. Fair enough, at least at this point in the 21st Century. So the question now is simple - how do we best accomplish this on a manner that is sustainable? Gonna have to be some pivots from the current model in the current environment, right? We've had this problem of balancing safety and sustainability once before, right? It just has a different face this time. btw - vegan and vegetarian are in no way the same thing. But you already know that. Didn't say you should. I would hope you wouldn't! Horses, unlike cows and pigs and chickens are....horses! Just pointing out that it is an option for meat. Option, as in you can't not do it. As for squirrels, hey, they're very tasty, actually. Bony as fuck, though, but you know, if it's all there is...
  8. Hey, you have horses, right? And damn near EVERYBODY got squirrels, right?
  9. I totally get the whole "Beefheart not the/a composer" thing because I've worked with an "artist" or two who operate like that - they give you some basic ideas and then expect you to make it into something coherent. It's a legit approach if the ideas come from somebody who has both the skill and the vision to know where they want it all to end up, and are not afraid to direct in quite specific (or abstract) terms as/if/when needed to get it there. And I tell you true - there are too many who don't have either that inclination or skill. Some are just downright hustlers, nothing more. But I do give them credit for being "organizers", for being able to make something happen. What they do after that in terms of real credit and such, that's another matter altogether. Still, where there was nothing, now there is something. As that pertains specifically to Beefheart, I honestly can't say, not having been there to see it in real time. Truthfully, I can see both sides being correct, just because even if "all" he did was to get those ideas down on piano for somebody/everybody else to actually realize...those were not insignificant ideas to begin with, right? But left unrealized/translated/codified/whatever, what would they have been rather than just ideas?
  10. That's a EuroMusiPorn version of the Artists House LP. VERY good stuff!
  11. Self-discipline, maybe? Just...do it yourself? Maybe have the internal wherewithal to think that this is not the place to say that because, there are, you know...rules? Actual, explicit rules? Nothing objective about it, not a "question" of taste, just really simple rules? Is this the only place in the world that people have to express their every thought about damn near everything? Really? Fucking Boomers... It would be quite possible to have a discussion about economics and not bring politics into it, assuming that the discussion was intended to operate in the realm of ideas instead of that of vulgar emotional manipulation.of Us vs Them (and the people who are desperate to be positioned as such). Now, just because it's possible doesn't mean it's likely...
  12. Yep. The Michigan thing went left in a quick minute, so...I hate deleting posts, but I was thinking ok, let's keep the thread open and people will get the message. But that didn't happen and this time rather than let it grow again, I shut it down. Those of you who favor proactive responses, hey.
  13. I know this ain't too much a Jimi Tenor crowd up in here, but...this DID happen, and I think it's dandy!
  14. Two of the neighbor boys and their dad are out in their back yard doing exactly that pretty much every day. Kudos to them for doing getting lemons and making lemonade. Sometimes I go inside have a hot dog in appreciation!
  15. Life is The Ultimate Enforcer. You're lucky. Kroger bakery is really good at what they do and that shit is never unavailable for curbside!
  16. Which are really quite simple - no potshots (valid or otherwise) about political leaders/parties/policies/organizations/conspiracy theories/rumors/etc. No baiting, no switching. I've seen how y'all do, and lord knows, if there's ever a beef shortage, there's fish aplenty here. Not to say those things aren't legitimate forms of expression (especially when they're true), just to say their expression is not the reason for this forum and as such will not be tolerated here unless and until the owner explicitly says they are. Unless and until then, take it to Facebook or Redditt or Zoom or Boom or Bollweevil or one of those other places that welcome it. This here ain't it.
  17. Vegain-ism? Whoa, who's talking about going vegan? There's plenty of things in between eating a live cow while it moos and not even looking at one lest your stomach be stirred towards lust. I'm not advocating enforced anything. I'm just noting that there are viable options at our disposal. Not all of them are necessarily pleasant, but they are viable. Look - I come from a family where one side was pretty much the archetypes of that Hank Jr. song about a country boy can survive. So I know there's other ways to get things done than waiting for somebody to do something for you to be at the end of somebody else's distribution chain. There just are. Just saying - I don't need Oscar-Meyer or Hormel or Smithfield or any of that. I use them, sure, but I don't need them. They do need me, though. Therefore - advantage, me. Oh bullshit. Learn to hunt. Go out to the country and meet some farmers. Stop whining and start living. Life is not here to give you what you want when you want it, that's some delusional Boomer-Based Bullshit.
  18. yeah, whatever. but I like that cover.
  19. Domino, I just looked. Sketchy provenance, but available anyway! Never payed attention to the date on that Telarc thing, just assumed it was the same gig. But it does show Jerry Fuller as the drummer:
  20. What the hell kind of category was that? Who else was in it?
  21. We don't have to eat meat to live. So a "meat shortage" might happen, but any panic that results is an entirely self-inflicted wound.
  22. What was the category?
  23. The 1971 riot caused the festival to actually relocate out of Newport for a good while. 1972 saw the beginning of the Newport In New York festivals, which went on for a good while and actually had some memorable moments. It wasn't until 1981 that any kind of jazz festival returned to Newport, RI.
  24. That ain't Fluffy Hunter.
  25. After a while, they really do start to all sound alike.
