Presto Music's website (UK dealer I mostly know for classical) says 2 CDs. I can't find anything on packaging specifics...IMO could be digipack or gatefold (the latter with or without internal slipcases). I'm not at home so can't check packaging of BGOs I own, but only single CD releases come to mind.

Classical Box Sets for Sale- Updated/Expanded List

I really like the Villa-Lobos string quartets (Cuarteto Latinoamericano) on Dorian. I own all but one of the component CDs. That is an attractive offer. -

DG said BGO on their "Coming Soon" page. https://www.dustygroove.com/item/219698/John-Surman:John-Surman-How-Many-Clouds-Can-You-See-Tales-Of-The-Algonquin

Thanks. I noticed this release at DG recently. I have the Algonquin album (only) and was wondering if the other 2 albums make this reissue worth acquiring. (I very much enjoy the recent Way Back When release on Cuneiform.)

What Classical Music Are You Listening To?
T.D. replied to StarThrower's topic in Classical Discussion
I've owned the physical CDs (2017 reissue of 2002 release) for quite a while. Being on Brilliant they didn't cost much, plus I like the Stamitz Quartet. -
I recall a recent discogs writeup on obis: https://www.discogs.com/digs/features/the-obi-strip-how-a-japanese-paper-band-became-a-collectors-grail/ Not that informative...conclusion seems to be more or less "just because"...but there is a good quote: To open a Japanese pressing from the 1970s or 80s and find its obi intact is to encounter a pristine, somewhat mythic art object. Because they weren’t glued down, they were easily lost, damaged, or discarded, particularly by overseas buyers that didn’t read Japanese or didn’t know better. These are records that someone cared enough not to throw away and understood might one day matter. They add a layer of aesthetic completeness, and to some, an almost ceremonial sense of care and preservation.

Pianist and bassist on #6 both distinctive. Track A6 from here. I own a CD of this. Made a point of seeking it out after enjoying albums by a group including both.

As alluded to in the first post of the thread, Stefan sold a big portion of his collection on this forum some years ago. The levels were pretty generous to forum member purchasers.

I think those prices are from a discogs seller I noticed this week. Was reading the thread and did some research. I considered posting a link to his offerings, but the numbers were kind of double-edged so I passed. 😶 The Turrentine and JJ Mosaics have never traded strongly AFAICT. I've always considered $75 the default price for Turrentine and I'm not surprised to see JJ offered at the same approximate level. I bought JJ (which is very good) at a cheapish price, but forget the number.

I'm only starting to scan the BFT, but Bobby Jaspar came to mind as a flute candidate (not yet a guess) for #3. He's (also on tenor) on many fine '50s albums.

Thanks, lots of fun. Many discoveries and one purchase (Lightmen plus 1) so far.

I noticed this and several other Eremite titles on sale at "The Bastards". Decided to give it a youtube listen.

Been on the want list a while, listened on bandcamp and pulled the trigger. I've posted before that I find Barry Guy's large ensemble material much more compelling than what I hear from the "contemporary classical" sector.
-
[Italics added] This is true. So many good box sets in free/improv sector that I'm not even qualified to rank them. This is older material but I like it a lot: There's a boatload of Barry Guy box sets, many of which could qualify. I've only scratched the surface of these. No Business has released many good box sets. Won't claim any of these are "best", but I enjoy Jemeel Moondoc Muntu Recordings (although it's a 2009 release and 1 year too old), William Parker Centering, Howard Riley Complete Short Stories and Constant Change, ...

Wow! Great news and congratulations! I'm a chess enthusiast, and McFarland Books has an absolutely sterling reputation for publishing chess books of biographical/historical nature.- 25 replies

No interest. But funny thing about the pricing: Amazon link said $260 when I looked. I googled "bruce springsteen ticket prices" and got a reply AI Overview Bruce Springsteen concert ticket prices vary widely, but average around $276, according to Marketplace. Which suggests that $260 won't deter the fan base.
