What are your plans shopping at record stores when they reopen?
T.D. replied to jcam_44's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Wow, I just noticed that the shop I mentioned above is open to a limited degree. Posted on Facebook 5/15: XXX records in XXX is OPEN! Kinda. This Saturday & Sunday. Make an appointment for a private shopping time, wear a mask, we will provide fresh gloves. Tried this last weekend & it worked out nicely! Contact rick directly or message us here via FB messenger. You may also drop of trades of LP's , DVDs , CDs & books ( just the good stuff!) I would shop under those conditions. Maybe I'll get in touch in mid-June, when I expect to be in the neighborhood (it'll be a weekday, though). -

There's really only one candidate store (which also sells books), it's over an hour's drive away, and I don't go unless I'm in the neighborhood on a work errand...but I would visit subject to spacing (preferably 1 person at a time in shop), gloves, mask. I will be in the neighborhood mid-June, but don't expect the shop to be open at that time. I'll walk past and look in the window, though. -
Paul Desmond/Ed Bickert Mosaic - NOW AVAILABLE
T.D. replied to bebopbob's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Dude on another forum was listening to his yesterday. No comments. -
I bought a Mosaic box on discogs, requested first class shipping. The parcel was shipped from Philadelphia suburbs Saturday, arrived upstate NY today (Monday)! Needless to say, I'll request first class if possible. In contrast, I have two media mail parcels in limbo, one last tracked to the dreaded Jersey City (Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate).

No shit, Sherlock. A certain "irony deficiency" seems endemic to Internet discussion forums.

Previously unreleased Sam Rivers live recordings

New one coming up, #3 in series: http://nobusinessrecords.com/ricochet.html -
That's one I'd like to hear. I had been on the fence about this forever, but finally went for a used copy: I grew up in Evanston, IL (home of Bee Hive), so it's nostalgia in a sense. I never knew of the Neumann family, though.

I ordered a 12-CD box from England around the same date. It shipped April 15 and arrived May 4, sooner than I expected and faster than some domestic USPS media mail deliveries.
-
I also enjoy that [Hemphill Black Saint / Soul Note] box, generally listen all in one shot. Never heard much of the WSQ, got the impression it wouldn't be to my taste.

Uh-oh. I've had another small package (orig. Cambridge MA, dest. upstate NY) fall into the dreaded Greensboro <-> Jersey City loop. Looks like 2 weeks or more until I'll see it. Last package finally (I'll spare details) only escaped the loop via Denver. Taking over-unders on how many times it'll cycle between Greensboro and JC... The difference between first class and media mail is astonishing. The small (1 CD digipack) media mail package I whined about above took exactly 3 weeks to arrive via a bizarre multi-looped tour. I had a bunch of first class letters to mail from work, required arrival around May 1. Scared by my experience, I mailed them early, but they arrived within a couple of days, so it turned out that I f**ed up by sending them too early. Since then, I've received a couple of small first-class packages that were comparably fast.

What Classical Music Are You Listening To?
T.D. replied to StarThrower's topic in Classical Discussion
This is really good. -
Current and planned:

I have this. Nice disc, but my only quibble is that it features the trademark Richard Alderson / Prestige engineering, whereby the piano (other instruments are fine) sounds as if it was recorded underwater.

COVID-19 2.0: No Politics edition
T.D. replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I made that obvious call early in March. Working conditions at meat/poultry plants have been frequently chronicled over the years in all forms of media. Politics precludes any further comment. -
Sorry to bore you with this s**t, but it's gotten truly ridiculous. On the second go-round in Jersey City, it was sent to Denver ???!!!. The destination is Upstate NY, nearest hub Albany. Good thing it's a reputable seller (Squidco via Discogs). I'm expecting to have to request a refund. But it only stayed in JC for a few hours this time - last time they kept it a week! Update on my shambolic delivery: in 13 days it's nonsensically cycled between Greensboro NC and Jersey City. At least my UPS office supply order arrived after 8 days. Don't assume UPS/Fedex will be great. I placed a small Staples order from work for office supplies. Pre-COVID, it would have arrived via UPS one day later. It now will be at least 8 days (each day the ETA gets pushed back a day). But I'm sure they will outperform USPS.

Damn. You are correct. Apologies, I shouldn't have started the thread.

Here's a good one. Package stayed in Jersey City for a week. Instead of proceeding North (I'm in upstate NY), it was then sent back whence it originated in NC. https://www.dustygroove.com/coming-soon/jazz Dusty Groove is in Chicago. If you're in Poland, it might be more effective to order directly from Japan (the reissue is Japanese). I don't know enough about Japanese vendors to recommend one, though.
