i am listening to a rather good lp i just got today in the dollarbin, Art Blakey Drum Suite- and i actually dont know the story about the short relationship w. art blakey + his jazz messengers --&-- Columbia records has this been talked about? i wonder how he got hooked up with them, and if they planned to carry all his albums out all on columbia like miles davis or something, was columbia tryin to make art blakey into the drummer miles davis so thats why he split?

http://991.com/newGa...ound-442299.jpg heyy, ok: i got this lp: mind you, the weird int'l logo or whatever in the pic, replace that with a regular american prestige sixties "swirly-q" thing or whatever it was, anyways this thread has NOTHING to do w/ the cover: my q. is the labels, okokok they are the older silver labels....but the covers so 60s, and the vinyl is so 60s, being thinner and floppier, etal, but the labels...are they 'throwback' or are they really old stock like blue note did using up old stuff but that doesnt seem plasuble in the timeframe, i dont know these things--so yea the labels are conciernng- the vinyl is stamped, and labels printed, w/ the same # on the cover PR7311 there is NO other scratched-thru numbers present, so rudy re-cut it, right? WELL THERE ARE SOME OTHER WEIRD SYMBOLS ON IT: to i dont have it out right now to look at cause its playing, but listen to me: there are a few more markings, kind of like, a more abstract artists rendering of the Capitol Winchester plant logo i have never seen this on a vangelder lp before! so the one w/ the green cover, that was the NEWJAZZ one, and this was the regular prestige issue? why didnt they reuse the newjazz stamper plates and scratch out the matrix nos. and be all chill about it like they used to

Imagine hearing him on electric piano with Ike & Tina Turner. It happened. r u sure, i found this: http://www.jazzreview.com/articledetails.cfm?ID=1937 JazzReview: While doing some research for this interview, I had read that you worked as a sideman for Ike and Tina Turner. McCoy Tyner: No, never did. JazzReview: Really? McCoy Tyner: Yes. Azar Lawrence (saxophonist in Mr. Tyner’s first popular quartet) played with Ike and Tina Turner, and I think he gave an interview once that got turned around into me playing with them. Believe me, if I played with Ike and Tina I would’ve remembered that [laughs]. JazzReview: Well, I’m glad we could clear that up! -
chewy here to wholeheartily recommend this cd, this is a live show from 1982 and it is intense from track 1 00:01 until the end of cd. i never had any phaorah close to like what i heard in LA, this cd is it (even though its 15 years earlier)..but yea, highly recommened-- i dont even know what label it was on originally, but the cd is on Evidence, and it lists 5 other albums to get....do u guys know if those are similar to this one? cause wow, this one is amazing

mccoy on electric piano and some funk-ified song from i dont know what, with the slapping marcus miller bass (who i actually dont think ive ever listened to before, but i know who he is)...is this mccoys one (1) attempt at doing anything, "commerical"? i might of bought this, but i have no idea what is going on right now

ok, heres something: what about the 'featuring Stanley Turrentine' bit? since when do blue note records do "featuring...and one player.........===now i know some joe hendersons, right, have the mult.names listed then /"etc"...but featuring stanley turrentine seams kind of odd. it prob was totally liberty, since i guess stanleys the other one on the lp that his a 'name', i guess, bennie maupin was still kind of an unknown...but still, its not really cool, it puts ST in an uncomfortable position -

i can only tell its liberty, in the bussiness of the label, not in the quality of sound presentation- this liberty is spot-on, blue note-style (sound) and pressing of disc sounds 5000 times better than Caramba wow, and the linernotes are a trip...this is an overall great presentation -

wow. i just got serenade. never made it to the cds of this (prob of the -very- last 1955-1970 bn cds i never got around to) but wow i got a really think heavy vinyl liberty press, wow, is bob cranshaw on electric bass, at least on this 1st tune thats on now? for those who never heard abt time i asked bob about blue note, and his electric bass.... i got all up in his grill about what the hell's up w/ his electric bass all over 'rough n tumble'...i was freaking out on him about rough n tumble after the sonny concert (i was crazy, but respectful)- i was going on and on about why did u play electric bass on that. what did grant green think of the electric bass. Did Blue Mitchell like it? Did Alfred Lion make you do it on that, or whats up with it and he said it was Stanley, Stanley asked me to bring it to the date, so instantly then though, i said: but like what not w/ hank, or lee morgan, why didnt u rock the fender on Hi Volatge or something, that would of been awesome and bob cranshaw said, i guess he was saying maybe not all those cats warmed up to it as quickly, i dont know cause of course hi voltage is acoustic as we all know and love, but so back to the on-topic, is he rockin it on BST84277 Serenade to a soul sister side 1. im excited about bennie maupin rippin it up all over on side 2
