  1. do you think the dex is dippin into the bag of the mobe on his solo?
  2. i just got this 45 rpm and on one song, gene harris plays the celeste. its kind of startling to hear a celeste on a blue note record at first-- my q is, i dont have this lp, does he do that on the whole album, or just the single?
  3. chucks exactly right, even in the 80s though columbia house cds were manufactured by DADC-- there are horror stories however, i dont remember what specific labels/titles were in question....
  4. nooooooooooooooo!!! vangelder stamps!!!!!!! ok i have a q: what is that "RW" marking on the back of the lp in the pic above? what do those letter stampers mean, ive seen those on other jazz lps w/ other letters and stuff....ie 'S'
  5. Hank Mobley/Messages (prestige)....track: alternating current. i actually think i dont even have it, may be the only mobe track i dont have-- i refuse to settle on the 70s 'messages' issue, im holding out for at least some nice blue label prestige issues if not better (yellow label)
  6. is the coleman TV show mentioned in existence or is it lost forever
  7. once again, as i was saying all last month, screw bumbershoot for doublebooking Bob Dylan and Solomon Burke at the exact same time for the Fri. night festival: if anyone who appriciates music was working there they would have noticed that that booking was a problem. RIP
  8. i was not aware of this. you mean the bearned coleman hawkins era? he wasnt sounding too good?
  9. hi i pm'd u about this i wanted to know what the discs say on them, are they printed in w. germany by PDO?
  10. omg, im obsessed w/ this album, and the other one i like is called high crime, from 1984. i was wrong, al jarreau is really musical and cool.
  11. i just hope there were at least some happy times for hank in the 80s at some point. he gotta say a few words at the bluenote tribute concert, that was pretty cool.....
  12. http://start.toshiba.com/news/read.php?rip_id=%3CD9INO2TG0%40news.ap.org%3E&ps=1011 waitwaitwaitwaitwait so JUST NOW, its all starting to unravel for this chick??? I DONT BUY IT. look at last paragraph on 1st page. WHAT THE HELL? i dont buy it. something is off on this story. the usa refuses to give her a passport and she cant open any accts & THAT didnt trigger her off on this? wtf? my take on it, is the husband was pissed about it when he found out about it all, and wanted to back out of the marriage or something. did she ever even have a job, this girl getting married? you need valid SS for that, dont you? whats your take on this. to put it all in other terms, if this girls mother was emminent jj johnson volume one, would the daughter not being rejected for a valid offical US travel passport be jj johnson volume two, or would it simply be eminent jj johnson volume one, but a liberty pressing
  13. north sea jazz fest....isnt that overseas? they really advertiested a mobley gig? no, it is important we hear the whole story- this is this mans life and the whole thing is relevant--
  14. if youre todd rundgren is 55 and up
  15. hank lost his teeth and a lung??? it just sucks how, like, at this same time, sonny rollins would be playing to 10,000 people at like europe kool jazz fest or something, and hank was in a little bar in new york all sick........
  16. his tone and technique are not the same but you can tell its still the Mobe- i will have more info on this for you guys shortly. go '80s hank. (for point of reference, this was the #1 single on the charts the week of the gig....... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsdj9NRzqC4 )
  17. so what are you sayin, im not the only person with a white label promo of this?
  18. i dont know if i like this album. its jazzrock fusion but....er...um...the wrong type of jazzrock fusion...its like 60s-chic i dont know how to describe, its still jazz i guess, i dont know....is there mixed opinion on this issue?
  19. hey you guys, my question to you is: i was suprised today to see my copy of fat albert rotunda, is on the Warner label, but has vangelder stampers! what i wanted to know, is: ---are the vangelder stamped issses only on the whitelabel promo (which is what i have) does the standard, i guess it would be...greenlabel issue...does or does not use vangelder stamps. i would guess: no, right? i mean vangelder stampers on a WB record? no way right? well i do seem to recall a grover washington jr record from like 74 ot 75 on motown, and vangelders are on THAT...so....
  20. wait, what r u taling abut Jsnrgy, Hank had to play the saxophone in a tuxc a lot, huh, that must of been an interesting scene, having to wear a tux to blow
  21. it all depends what yr doing, really- if you are jon lord in deep purple, you are going to need it. if you are jackie davis playing hammond on jackie gleason 'aphrodesia', you are not going to need to sound like deep purple (btw thats an -essential- hammond lp if you dont already have a copy, jackie gleason aphrodesia)
  22. Terrible 'T'/Im a fool to want you Vee jay white label promo
