  1. so is that why this release got the name "see autumn" (instead of Ceora), in 1980? so these are the same tapes TRIP used then?
  2. k i dont know abt this: why is he on the 1st cd but then bob berg takes over, until the late 80s i guess when ralph moore steps in, who is who i saw them with. was george coleman just a special guest, since hes george coleman, or was there like a getting-along issue that happened or whatnot.
  3. his work is extremely vast, in many different avenues of west coast jazz. from classic wcj to all these different studio projects. his discogs page doesnt list any of his many big band tribute records on yellow vinyl, for the PRI (Precision radiation instruments) label. tributes to all the big band leaders plus im pretty sure i even have a dave pell pays tribute to Mantovanni lp
  4. this is as good as youre gonna get ***oh and that npr quote is funny i never saw that!!
  5. from what Ive gathered the kinescopes from the '57 steve allen show were discarded from what Ive gathered the kinescopes from the '57 steve allen show were discarded ok i thought this double post thing was me now i see its everyone- gorts can u fix this?

  7. well Im going to go along with that. ive never really seen video of him i dont really know about his stage presence, but if all those musicians bought into it like youre reporting which seems very legitimate reporting, then thats what happned but watching the video it was really shocking to me
  8. look im getting multiple accts that col bruce did do a james brown type "lie on the stage" type deal. so perhaps that explains, perhaps....why theres a FOUR (4:00) minute delay from fall to assistance. even warren haynes is just standing there. he is fallen and everyones still jamming.
  9. Did Hank play to moving picture cameras? Yes. Steve Allen Show 56 /// and now we know about the euro b'cast from the new cd........ Do these things survive today? No // Probably not....
  10. i really like this, my QueenDisc bird lp has similar typeface easy to read font. i like it. does that say essen? maybe theres film footage, like a from a jazz version of rockpalast!
  11. Chewy has no freaking idea, ill be listening for it tho
  12. this is the most "blue note sounding" prestige date ive heard....the OJC lp issue i just got (sealed) sounds fine
  13. i agree, the entire film should of been wayne shorter telling lee morgan stories.
  14. it would of been wrong to of just stand up and give the pre-concert lecture, before my screening, right
  15. it was expensive for a cd but it was kind of worth it- it actually won a grammy. i dont know anything about manhattan transfer but i suppose what ive been missing out w/ them i am gaining back via this cd. Clare exclusively plays yamaha digital piano + organ on this.
  16. @Big Beat Steve be careful, i didnt mean for my thread to have you take 78s out....
  17. im paring down, curating my collection more and this one just got the ax, i just couldn't find a situation where i'd listen to it over a Hampton Hawes trio date on contemporary. im sorry dog!
  18. i was suprised how 2 of the tapes just turned up in the archives, like just recently donated. thats so great.
  19. Who has it, check in. i like how its divided into 3 parts. right now im fully focusing on part one part one: hank tv b'cast audio part two: hank + orchestra part three: hank set in club
  20. amyone have luck w/ amazon, i just placed an order w/ amazon directly....a cheaper one on "ferndalejazz" amazon seller but amazon question box has been not working for me all day and it doesnt say if they are even in the US or not.....but amazon many times delivers by courier and not usps so they dont have access to the mailbox which makes it hard to receive.
  21. its amazing dog- he was the 1st black chemist in america. he started the first doctoral program in chemistry at a h.b.c.u, howard. he got a gugenhiem and went to labs in denmark and switzerland, and was chair at cal state northridge, in the 70s and 80s. it really goes to show u the average joe wasnt buying kenny dorham blue notes. this guy was obviously a total genius, i wonder if he jammed k.d. in the lab?
  22. the UA kenny dorham afro cuban is way better than expected. i was so right in holding off for this one. i thought the music matters was the wrong play for this session, i thought the UA would have more "charm" to it. As a bonus, my copy was owned by a famous back scientist! PHD in chemistry, Dr. Lloyd N. Ferguson- proud to have his copy!
  23. i overlooked this, eg i forgot it existed. but out of all his lps its the one that really speaks to me. essential.
