look you dont have to like yes, it is my problem if i dont like that someone doesnt like yes. for me its not even really rock n roll, it ts the classical music of our time. close to the edge has as much in common with classical music in terms of structure and compsition, as it has rock elements. let me tell you about yes: watch alan 4 ft in back of his kit. you dont understand what he has to do. he has to keep together, a song in an odd time signature, you got these fast classical piano runs going up and down, you have this angular guitar player soloing and the bass player is turned up louder than the guitar player and hes soloing too, and alan has to glue that all together. its pretty nutz. I GOT A GOOD JAZZ -- YES STORY FOR YOU one time before a special Yes interview q&a i had a ticket to....guess what i found at the record store? a really good audiobook cd: buddy collette: a jazz biography. it was a 2 cd set, buddy collette and his life in jazz in la. my copy even had a photograph of buddy on stage, inside of it, and the booklet was autographed!!! so at the Q&A someone asked him about guitar influences and its a good question but its steve howe, the legend is true-- its like when u ask brian wilson and he says "be my baby" you know he said chet atkins and went on about that but he also mentioned JIM HALL. and so when i go to say hi after the q&a and im all steve check out what i found at the record store before i came, and i showed him the pic and im all yea buddy collette from chico hamiltons bands with jim hall and hes all oh yeah great player and i showed it to steve

are we all talking about yes cause of the HOF news ok well i have seen them 19x and consider them some of the true heroes of my life and of our time. 2 weeks ago was ARW, it was not a normal experience, by any means, by this point, or was it ever. was in the front row, but then And You And I started, and im all f-this seat it still wasn't good enough so i moved 3 feet closer and sat indian style directly beneth rick. i was sitting on top of some kind of subwoofer- so here i am sitting on floor being completly vibrated by the subwoofer, rick is playing And You and I directly over me,i have full view of his hands playing the melltron part. did i know what was happening? you better freaking believe it i knew i was sitting on the floor directly beneth rick playing the mellotron part of and you and i. you better believe i knew what was happening. something stranger happned pre show. i had just walked up to the theatre. 1hr before show. i had just turned the corner and walked up. i stop to chill by the alley, no ones milling about yet everything is just regular and i had just walked up to the place and not more than a min. after i had walked up BOOM the metal backstage door swings open and i look at him, and he looks at me and it seemed like 5 min but it was only 5 seconds and i just couldnt believe it, it was JON. so i thumbs up and waved and said hey jon! and hey said hey and was goin across the street. that happened to no ones else there. it happend to me. i had JUST walked up to the theatre for the night and not a minute later im standing in front of Jon Anderson. That happened to me for a REASON. I dont care about the HOF im just happy if it allows them to be recognized and allows them to have special moment they deserve so much

For Vinyl Collectors (esp. 78's)
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to John Tapscott's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
i tried emaling to the link on that...is that his site ? is he still alive? is he just some collector, i thought he was a musican or something at first. he claimed to me in an email 20 years ago that he has a copy of a reel to reel tape recorded of the TV set of Steve Allen tonight show 1957, in band consisting of leader Monk, Mobley, & Art Farmer. this has never surfaced it seems like drinking was involved and then he was handling 78s, isnt that a rookie mistake? i dont think when u go over to john tefttellers to see hes not pounding shots and then pullin it out to show u. hell to-the no! -

ive been looking on ebay at the steely dan pretzel logic production master for Yugoslavia, in abc-dunhill tape box. 1700 for it is step one, but step two would be having to find a proper home sized machine to play it on, that would be for example theres a Technics player, that takes 10.5 inch reels and plays at 15ips...but its avg price is $2500. that still pales in comparison to this one. has anyone actually emailed the guy to get the story? it seems many people are watching it--- lots of watchers but not a lot of buyers, lol -
*** The Duke Ellington Corner ***

i just got a white label promo of 'ellington '66' and the guy that commented on my post was right, it is good arrangements, save the beatle tunes which dont work on this album for me. i mean its just that here you have what at one point was -the- greatest band in the world...and yea but look what i really wanted to comment was if you guys like him seek out VANCOUVER '70 AT THE CAVE. vols 1-2. aud. recorded mono sound so it sounds like one of his old time concerts.....but its still '70... very cool. it TOTALLY has that old school ellington band vibe. (even better cause julian priesters on it). i would also like to say i totally dont "get" a drum is a woman yet. i got a really nice white label promo of it and i thought it would be my new favorite- duke orch + candido...im sold. but candido barely is featured, and its album like an audio-musical......anyways my main beef is candidos barely featured.....
