The Scene Is Clean--I love the blowing changes! Obviously,Clifford's version is THE one,but Joe Lovano did a nice version recently. Nostalgia is Fat Girl's!(Its on the changes to "Out Of Nowhere")Dameron wrote a different head on those changes...

Much appreciated,Gary! I don't know who to blame-Amazon or FSNT--but I hope Amazon gets some product!!Its hard enough to get people to buy,let alone re-buy & re-buy! Thanks for pointing that out Jazz Kitten!
-
Derek Olphy on John McNeil's steeplechase Cd "Fortuity" is really Allan Chase!

Jeremy Pelt - one hell of an interesting trumpeter

Wow Shrugs! That is a daunting triple bill of 3 great trumpet players--and 3 different types of great players, too. Would love to make it! -
Thank you for that Lawrence!Your thoughts and writings are on my mind! You touched on one of my "intentions"--not showing off or recording songs that serve strutting...You know--playing Giant Steps might be impressive, but not on my cd. "Open" is another intention--I'm so glad that's coming through for you.

Thank you David! Yeah Seamus Blake!! And Bill Stewart too!

I just heard a cut on Louis Hayes'quintet tribute to Cannonball---Pelt was "tipping his cap" to Nat big time on this. Jeremy's great!Technique, fire & ideas.I think he's got different sides to his playing.I greatly look forward to hearing his releases--yet I don't have his FSNT release nor his Criss Cross--I'll have to remedy that soon... -
Trumpet ideas for Andrew Hill / Jason Moran???
Trumpet Guy replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Artists
I'd say its hard on trumpeters lips to be blowin' so much in a quartet. You need to rest while the sax player plays ALL those notes I'd like Ron Miles w/Hill or Moran... -
Trumpet ideas for Andrew Hill / Jason Moran???

What a cool thread! Well....as much as I'd kill for that chance to play w/ Hill (or Moran)thanks Jim,Joe(you must have received it?)& Adrian...I'll 2nd the vote of Baikida Carroll and Ralph Alessi(his "This Against That"is killin' me!) Pelt can burn the house down, but I haven't heard him play in an Andrew Hill-ish setting yet,so I'll stick with my 2 choices. Edit:How 'bout Rob Blakeslee?Bobby Bradford? -
Not really Jim.Wish I was able. How bout a gig in Texas? I'll be going back to Sweden next spring with Bruno Raberg. His new cd "Ascensio" is out now--getting reviewed everywhere.Check your bargain bins...(that's what happens when you use the promo teams to hype your record.)

You people are wonderful!Thanks... Thank you Gary for purchasing!I hope you enjoy it. Stuffed peppers & marinated baked tofu for everyone!
-
I'm down! But I cook mostly veggies...but full o' flavor! Is Organissimo down w/ baked marinated tofu?
-
Wow & whew!! You guys are so nice and kind!! Thank you very much. Now I know-I'm not all that...and many could and possibly will criticize... But Jim Sangrey,Adrian,Lon,Kitten--and jlhoots(have I met you?)--I can't thank you enough for your kindness! If I'm getting rated--I'm a good chef!Does that help?
-
Awesome Pryan! Thanks so much! Please give me your thoughts when you have time.I hope you enjoy it!
-
Wow-Thank you Alan!! I really appreciate your kindness.I hope to be able to send you a copy of "Playful Intentions" soon...
-
Not sure Paul--that's what someone told me...I hope to hear it for myself soon.It must be poor fidelity...recorded in a hotel room? I saw yesterday for $15 an original 1956 Phil Sunkel vinyl---something like "I wake up every morning to the Phil Sunkel Orchestra".I might have this, but damn that's a tempting purchase.
-
I really dig when Tony Fruscella will "play off the horn" in his solos. He'll play a low 'f' on trumpet , which is a half step below the "lowest"note on trpt.
-
Great stuff!! More great Don Joseph on Em Arcy's"The Jazz School" featured in Art Mardigan's sextet. We've almost covered all the Joseph.Add those Honey Dew's recorded on Staten Island. But that elusive Fred Stoll tape...
-
Very cool Lawrence!!I have to get "From A to Z" pronto!Dick Sherman is not alive, correct? The Fru/Getz is great too,but I was also refering to a 54' date in Virginia not on CD.Email me... Thanks for looking for my cd too! In the last year or so,I've become a Hackett fan--I find these cool offshoots(Joseph,Fru) most interesting! Few things move me more than Don Joseph's solo on Mulligan's "All The Things You Are"--in fact that whole arrangement kills me!
-
Joe-Kurt's new record is something he's been working on for awhile.Recorded at home.Grand sounding-co-produced by Q-Tip.With Mark Turner,Ben Street,Jeff Ballard+---I can't wait-I hear its GREAT!
-
Yeah Michael that's the one.I hear no clapping--led me to the Jam theory. Some of the BEST FRU period.Up there with "I'll Be Seeing You"! There's a Brooklyn Jam 52' cd--crudely recorded at Gene DiNovi's pad. That Fru w/ Bird, mentioned in Cutler discography is bogus?? Lawrence--The "Very Cool" extras & outakes was given to me--I don't know that its available...I also have "Jazz From The 50's-Wave Cd-Midway Lounge---Is that the extras for The Real Lee Konitz you mentioned? I gotta pull out my Phil Sunkel's now:Jazz Concerto Grosso & Sunkel's Jazz Band...
-
A BIG thanks to Ed!!! Hope you like em'! Very much appreciated by me
-
Joe-Jazzmatazz lists a new Rosenwinkel for August.I'll see Ballard on Tuesday,I'll ask for more details...
-
Fagerquist is great.I LOVE his "8 by 8"record.BUT, he had WAY too much chops to be in the Fru/Joseph school. Lawrence Kart-VERY Interesting stuff. Thanks! Ferrara's still alive right? You've heard the "outakes" of "Very Cool"?And the Getz/Fru jam session 54'? I might have a taste of these guys in my playing, but its not front & center...
-
Yeah but who's got it? I heard Ira Gitler. That Fred Stoll tape...I heard Loren Shoenberg(?)has it... C'mon--share these gems!Don't take em with you!
