  1. I should say brownie, that Mr. Nessa made me a cassette copy out of the niceness of his heart. It isn't available commercially. I believe it was a cassette only item on Homeboy Music label... Where is Mr. Norman Howard?
  2. Great Question!! Norman Howard's playing on "Witches and Devils" REALLY blows me away! Its otherworldly for me.Very unique. I got Norman Howard's "Signals" from Chuck Nessa.Cool stuff!
  3. Happy Birthday Jim!!
  4. I'm not Tony the tiger... But I did ask Joe once if he ever felt uninspired while playing.Joe gave me an emphatic "no".Wish I could say the same!
  5. Totally agree with Vincent,Paris!! "South" I find to be an amazing cd.I'm attracted to the compositions--open ended, melodic, cleverly put together, line stacked on line. Potter & Adam Rogers are killin' to me!Incredible improvisors... Binney has made a modern gem to me!
  6. Wow--I'd LOVE to hear Kenny Dorham blow on Invitation!!Gotta seek that out...
  7. Yeah I knew there was a live Joe Hen w/Woody Shaw I forgot. I'll second that Jack Wilkins recommendation by Free For All! More I forgot in my collection: I have unreleased(?) versions by Quest(Liebman,beirach,McClure,Hart)--Killin!! Ralph Bowen-Soul Proprietor Lenny McBrowne & The 4 Souls w/ Don Sleet Kevin Hays-Go Round Dave Liebman-Setting The Standard

  11. There were 6 volumes of videos of this "Live At The Village Vanguard" series. Volume 4--Mal Waldron & Friends Git-Go(21:05) All Alone(17:35) Firewaltz(19:18) Left Alone(4:55) Hope that helps some...
  12. Wow--I am loving this cd "Heartcore"!! So beautiful with so much mystery...What a work! Big Wheel--I'm surprised you never dug Rosenwinkel 'til now.I guess that might be part of the reason you were obviously non-plussed by my cd...
  13. Dmitry--Not sure what floats your boat, but the GREAT Ron Miles will be at The Zeitgeist in Cambridge Friday night with Tin Hat Trio. Saturday at Zeit is piano fest--all day and night. The Fringe plays here now on Mondays... Also Friday John Butcher duo w/harp,Rhondi Davies at Boston ICA. Coupla good quartets Friday night at MIM series in Hyde Park. Infinitely less interesting,I'll be at Top Of The Hub Friday night(after opening for The Gin Blossoms in Plymouth)--Saturday afternoon, I'll be at Christopher Columbus Park with The Boston Jazz Rep Orchestra. Hope you have a nice time in the bean!!
  14. Wow! I've gotten the pleasure of hearing this and I really dug it.Uplifting,fun,funky...some really nice playing and tunes.I dug everyone's contribution!Nice vibe. Would love to see you live! Hope you get the success you deserve!! Thanks for the music!
  15. Tom In RI---They are 2 different people. This trumpet player is the real deal. With him & Jeremy Pelt the trumpet's future burns on.Both these guys are scary good!!
  16. Ahhhh...Ummmm...I think,at LEAST... its acceptable. Can we really determine what is acceptable for jazz?
  17. Love Em'!! Have seen them live once.
  18. Yeah Jim-right on! You always strike me as someone who has "evolved"--much wisdom I get from JSngry!!Thanks!!
  19. Thanks Brad!Interesting stuff---I also read about Coulson in "Swing To Bop"--one guy said he was like Fats, but another made him sound more understated than Fats.
  20. Thanks Pryan!-I hope you enjoy it!But I'm scared now Thanks Jazz1 for explaining your thoughts more.I appreciate your sharing your honest opinion.I don't disagree about your composition views. My 1st cd was more how you described--picking "great" tunes that I arranged. So this one I felt the need to develop my composing---You're correct--I've got a long way to go. I learn much about myself and music making from people, like you and others. So thanks---I hope to evolve and see the beauty in your not liking my music.I'm working on it,but again have a ways to go....Happy listening.
  21. How 'bout recordings of trumpeter Victor Coulson?
  22. Hey its what makes the world go round,I guess. I think Kurt sounds incredible.Even on such "weak" material. I did the best I could...sorry Jazz 1.Do us both a favor and sell it! Thanks JK!
