I did some searching because I had to know. No IDs since I "cheated" but I will say that I was surprised by the second horn player. I've never really liked the guys' music. I am very interested to hear your end of the month comments on this album.

I am a big college basketball fan and I am about ready to go neck deep into March madness. In case I don't get back to this thread for awhile, I wanted to make sure you knew I've been listening to your BFT quite a bit the last few days. There isn't anything I just hate but there are a number of tracks that I like a lot. Track 3 – A terrific band, terrific soloists and a terrific tune. I've said before that most of what I know about the traditional stuff has come from previous BFTs. My schooling continues. Track 4 – Dulcimer? Or are they messing around inside the piano? Interesting sound. Track 11 – This sounds like something I should have in my collection. It is definitely something I want to have. It reminds me of some things I've heard by Gerry Hemingway's quintet with Reijseger, Dressler, Wierbos and Moore. Maybe also a kinship to Sean Bergin. Whatever, this is my kind of music. Those are the three I've listened to most so far but there is certainly some other good music to check out further. And I will. Thanks.

Definately like to be part of your BFT. Download.

Listened to your BFT again this morning, knowing the IDs. I am happy that at least I recoganized "liking" one of my favorite drummers, Andrew Cyrille. I didn't pay enough attention to the Tom McDermott/Evan Christopher and Spike Hughes tracks. Good stuff all around, thanks.

LF: Gerry Hemingway - Slamadam/Perfect World
NIS replied to colinmce's topic in Offering and Looking For...
It came with artwork. I kind of agree that $15 is a little steep for a CDR but when I bought it I couldn't find a used or new copy anywhere, even at a crazy price. I justified the price in my mind by knowing that it was going directly to the artist. -

Have you looked at Mr. Hemingway's website? I bought Slamadam from him as a CDR, if that would be of interest to you. It is a pretty good album -
It's a buncha girls! So, you could have given a bunch more hints, including the names of the band members, and I wouldn't have guessed who this was. However, through the magic of google I found them. I've apparently had some free time on my hands today and just wanted to know. Have you seen these folks in person? I bet it is a really fun show.

If it is hint time, how about track #5? Reading back through the comments, I think it might just be you and me on this one.

I would very much like to join in. A download would be great. Thank you.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
NIS replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Another group that I would love to see in person. Your description of the music sounds very much like their most current album which is terrific in my opinion. -
Been doing some more BFT listening. In particular, I've been playing track 11 several times and it has really grown on me. Bass and drums are really good for me. John Surman maybe. I guessed him on another BFT and was right so what the heck.

Got a chance to listen to your BFT on walks the last two days. Enjoyed it very much and there are a number of tracks I like a lot. Thanks very much. Pretty early in the month but a couple of quick comments. Track 2; Most of the stuff I listen to is on the more adventerous side but I also really enjoy a straight forward version of an old gem where the song is the star. These guys do that very well. Track 4; Matt Moran was involved in a group called, I think, Slavic Soul Party. Similar instrumentation and bent as this. Sounds like it could be the sound track to a street dance somewhere. I like this one. Track 5; This is one that I have to check out for sure. Love the ending. This reminds me a little of a Harris Eisenstadt album I have, called “Guewel”. For me, that is a pretty good compliment. Track 6; You and Alex and couple of the other guys have presented some really great “vintage” stuff that have been a good introduction to that era for me. Thanks guys. I love the solos on this track. Track 9; Is this song Jackie Gleason's “traveling music”? Fun. Track 16; When you “threatened” a rapper in your comments, I thought that would just be a throw away. But I like it. Partially because the horn guys are really good.

I'm not a big vocal fan but a album I really like is "Something Cool" by Tierney Sutton. Interesting, varied group of songs, nice voice, pretty good backing group.

Could I have a download? Please and thank you.

Thanks for the BFT. I found disc 1 track 10 interesting. I like the instrumentation, percussion in particular, and the overall mood of the piece. I have an old Christmas cassette by Tuck Andress. Haven't listened to it for awhile but the guitar on disc 2 track 4 reminds me of it. So, my one wild guess for this BFT is Tuck and Patti. Speaking holidays, I am a sucker for Christmas music. So, disc 2 tracks 12 and 13 work for me. Track 14 not so much. 13 could be Diana Krall, I think. Right or wrong, DK would be an example of a singer I enjoy listening to. Like I said in the sign up, vocal albums aren't my favorite listens. However, there is nothing on the BFT that is bad, just not my thing. No accounting for taste. Thanks again. Edit: Well, now that I've read the comments and know that there are multiple tracks by some artists, I will have to listen with that in mind.

Favorite Free Jazz/Avant Garde Box Sets
NIS replied to Face of the Bass's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'm not too big on box sets in general but "Two Ts for a Lovely T" is the one Cecil Taylor release that I can really get into. -
Very interesting BFT. Sorry I didn't contributed much to the discussion (not unusual for me). I enjoy having another listen or two after knowing the IDs on these things. Thanks very much.
-
May I be included with a download, please. I am not a big jazz vocal fan, but maybe you will convert me. Thanks.

For my ears, the first Sun Rooms album was a little less adventerous than some of Adasiewicz's other stuff - the Mazurek album you mentioned earlier for instance. But since you are referencing Walt Dickerson, I had better check this one out.

I had a chance to listen to your BFT once more this morning. The violin track kind of got my attention. Way back when I was a kid Omaha had a couple of bars that featured some really good bluegrass bands. I'm not saying this is bluegrass by any means but the violin and guitar just made me think of the "old" days. Nice music anyway. The last two tracks of the BFT are still my favorites. I've been thinking that I've heard track 15 before, so I'm going to take another flyer and suggest that this might be from Adam Lane's CD, "Ashcan something or other". Right or wrong, the bass player is really good in my opinion.

Hot Ptah, Thanks very much for the BFT. I've had a chance to listen a couple of times (some tracks more than that). You have covered alot of ground and there is alot of music to like. The tracks that got my attention right off are the last two, so I've listened to them a number of times. For track 15, the bass solo and duo with trumpet are great for me. Track 16 is the kind of stuff I really like. Good ensemble playing and the vibes player is pretty interesting. As it happens, I've also been listening to a trio album with Rob Mazurek and Jason Adasiewitz and I think I hear some similarities in the playing, particularly the vibes. Could this track be from the Exploding Star Orchestra?
