Thanks for the heads up. I live in Omaha which is about 2 1/2 hour drive. Very do able.

I'm sorry that I didn't participate in your BFT. You had tracks from a couple of my favorite albums (Tryptich Myth, Joost Buis). Since we apparently have similar taste on some things I will have to check out the other stuff you listed. Thanks.

Looking for two OJC CDs featuring Teddy Charles
NIS replied to Kyo's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I sent you a pm on the New Directions. -
Please pardon my lack of knowledge, but what is STN?

I guess I don’t have much to say except what appeals to me and what doesn’t. I most enjoyed the following tracks: 4. I haven’t heard anything new from Egberto Gismonti for a long time but this sounded like him to me. Whoever it is sure can play. 5. This sounded better ever time I played it. At first I thought it was something from the 1960s. 9. Both the ensemble playing and solos sounded pretty good to me. 11. This one and 9 are the ones I am most interested in finding out who done it. It seems like it is being played with good humor. The rest of the tracks were ok, just nothing that made me think, I’ve got to find out who that is. I have to admit that I thought track 1 was a little silly and the solo violin track did kind of grate on my last nerve. Thanks again for including me Nate. My virgin BFT was great fun.

Apparently mail to Nebraska isn't so bad because I got the disk today. Thanks for including me.

I sent you a reply. Thanks very much.

I have been looking for the CD "Aki Takase Plays Fats Waller"(ENJA). I've seen it for $35 but that seems kind of expensive. Maybe it isn't and I'm just tight. Anyway, thanks for any help or thoughts.

I bought the Carnet de Routes CD because of this discussion and I wanted to thank you all for the recommendations. Everything said is true. This is one of the best records I have heard in a long time.

In my experience, Vladimir is knowledgeable, accessable, and honest. I have done business with him going on maybe 20 years and have no complaints.

Hi Slide, I have a Horo release by Karl Berger. I haven't listened to it in years. If you are interested in KB send me a PM. Nick

I'm really not sure what this thread is about and I don't think I want to live in Des Moines, IA either but I did go to a Trio X concert there a couple of weeks ago.

I've found that over the years there are a limited amount of LPs in my collection that I've listened to on a regular basis. The last couple of weeks I've been trying to go through the ones that have been ignored. One thing I've found is that my taste in music has changed quite a bit. I've also gotten reacquainted with some really good records. One is "Just Play (1976)" on Quark Records by Karl Berger and Edward Blackwell. Really nice duet improvisations and Ed Blackwell is just a great drummer. One other interesting thing is that the play time for side 1 is 30 minutes and side 2 is 27 minutes. I thought only CDs were suppose to have that much music on them.

I'm not overly bright. What is a K2?

This topic has been fun for me because the 70s was when I started buying music from the jazz section. The albums that I am listing are ones that I still listen to quite often. AEC, Fanfare For The Warriors Ralph Towner, Solstice Bennie Maupin, The Jewel In The Lotus Weather Report, Mysterious Traveller MJQ, The Last Concert Walt Dickerson, Peace Bobby Naughton, The Haunt John Abercrombie/Dave Holland/Jack DeJohnette, Gateway Collin Walcott, Grazing Dreams Walt Dickerson, Tenderness

To GA Russell, Your listing of the two If albums in the first post really brought back some memories. I played the living crap out of these two LPs in college. I still have them but unfortunately they sound like they have been rode hard and put up wet as well. For my taste this was the best of the so called "jazz-rock" music and maybe had some influence on my looking into jazz itself.

Kyo, I don't post messages often, so I don't know if this is appropriate or not (please let me know if it is not) but I have a copy of Live At Montreux that I don't play much that I would sell you if you are interested. PM or e-mail me if you would like. Nick

Thanks for bringing this up. I haven't played this record in a long time but I will fix that when I get home tonight. Another vibes trio record that would fit this thread is The Haunt by Bobby Naughton. Naughton on vibes with Perry Robinson on clarinet and Leo Smith on trumpet. A little bit on the "free" side I think.

Neat thread. A favorite of mine is call Naked on the Floor (title and group name) on Valid Records (validrecords.com). I bought it three or so years ago off of a review in Cadence. It is by a New Orleans group lead by guitarist Jonathan Freilich. Some interesting tunes with odd ball titles like "Fears Dress In The Subconsious (and then go out dancing)".

This doesn't add much substance to the discussion but this album really struck a cord with me when I got back in 1970whatever and it still does. I've played the record quite regularly since and it is actually in pretty good shape considering use. In my opinion, music doesn't get much better than this.

Hi, I've never posted here before but have followed this forum with interest. You guys seem to know your stuff. To that, any ideas on a fair sale price for The Complete 1959 Charles Mingus CBS Sessions (LP version)? Also, are there any resources (books, web sites,...) with price guides for used LPs? Thanks for any help.
