  1. Download for me too, please.
  2. Thom, When I was responding to your post the boss told me to get off my ass, we were late to meet some friends for dinner. So, I didn't proof read and put Wynton instead of NOT Wynton for track 12. It is definately not Wynton so I hope I didn't throw anyone off the track. I was looking at your website. I already knew this but I am in way over my head talking music to a bunch of musicians, writers and just generally knowledgable folks. I also took a look at your record label site. One of the musicians on track 8 is listed on the home page. Little hint.
  3. Thanks guys.
  4. So, here is my dumb, waste your time question for the day. My mother sent some 78s home with me some time ago. Titles by the likes of Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Louis Jordan and of coarse Doris Day. Is it worth my while trying to come up with a sale price or just take a ride to the Salvation Army thrift store? I can't imagine they are in great condition. I probably already know the answer. Thanks.

Well, it took several tries but I think I sent it to you correctly.
  6. Always fun to recognize something. Seldom happens for me. Shoot, the last time something was use that I own, I didn't recognize it.
  7. Bill, In regard to #3, I have always thought that the drummer in particular had some rock sensibilities. I could have noted that the clarinet player (leader) was called by Joe and is pretty well known. What I could find about the rest of the group is all jazz related. Actually, the drummer is probably known to most of you guys who are sharper than I am. He has kind of an interesting story.

Great. I will get you the link.
  9. The sample on track 4 is not Bessie Smith. I'm not that familiar with her sound so I want to check a couple of clips. There is a similarity to the singer here. There was another possible similiarity name wise but I couldn't find any information.
  10. 1. You are correct with the cello but there are only 3 strings. Kind of subtle. Of coarse, you have the right song as well. The horn players are not the Dutch boys. And I've been calling this a trumpet, so I stand corrected as well. This has always been a favorite album of mine but I really didn't even realize how good I thought it was until I was looking for tracks for this BFT. I would have been happy using anything from the album. There is one of the other Dutch musicians on a later track but I tried to stay away from stuff I used the first time around. 2 & 3. These two track go together. I should have made them a and b because I really wan't trying to be tricky or anything. You've expose me, I don't know Lou Donaldson, so I don't get your reference. However, this is Perry Robinson. I think this is a really fun album. 4. Glad you like this one. One of my favorites from the last year or so. I need to look up a couple of things before I make a further comment. 5. Right song and I totally agree with your comments. 6. David Grisman, yes. Django, yes. 7. You are all over this one as well. I was a kid in the 50s with all the Disney stuff and I really enjoy this album, not much jazz content though. I actually thought of using Aaron Neville and Dr. John doing the "Mickey Mouse Club Theme" but that might have been pushing it alittle. I am glad you checked in. Good comments.
  11. What?!?!?! I got two? Gor blimey! And do I get half a point for #2 & #3? MG Sure, why not. Just don't get too cocky.
  12. So, "Sightsong" is now on my neverending want list. Of coarse the list always outpaces my music budget. I am sure no one else has that problem. I am never too surprised by IDs because I don't know much but I have to say that Joseph Jarman did. Thanks very much for the listen.
  13. I do not think you rude. Actually I am happy you wanted to make some comments, which I am enjoying. I just need to take some time to think about a proper response.
  14. Listened again on my morning walk. I enjoy the first track more everytime I hear it.

I sent out the link this morning because I will be crazy busy (not a complaint) the rest of the week. If I missed anyone or if someone else want to join in, please let me know. Back to Tim's current BFt.
  16. Thanks for your comments, I'm glad you found some things to enjoy here. So given your comments about the flute, I'm curious what you thought of tracks 11 and 12? The same was true for me on track 1 in that I didn't own a lot of things in that particular style...I sought it out because I was trying get my hands on as many Harold Land recordings as possible and ended up being absolutely blown away by it. I am really getting excited to reveal track 4 soon. I would say I enjoyed track 11 overall more than 12. Neither one makes me was to stick a pencil in my ear or anything. That is an awfully good bass solo on track 12. Actually, I mean't to comment that there was some pretty good bass playing throughout the BFT. I guess your avatar should have been a clue why that is. I am a little slow sometimes.
  17. Don't want to step on webbcity's terrific BFT but I guess it is time to find out who wants to be involved in next month's test. I think it is a nice tuneful, for the most part, set of tracks but you will be the judge of that. Give it a try.
  18. webbcity, I have had the opportunity to listen to your BFT quite a few times. Good job. What I haven't seemed to find time to do is put together any coherent comments. The good thing there is your music is much better than my thoughts anyway. I don't have a very big music collection and I don't have anything along the lines of Track 01. I can't dance, absolutely no rhythm but this makes me want to tap my toes. Great upbeat start. To my tin ear Track 04 has a folk tune feel from maybe one of the UK areas. It reminds me of a couple of John Surman ECM things I haven't listened to for awhile. Nice piano. I normally am not a big fan of the flute. The flute on Track 06, however, does work for me. The sax, too. I like the two bass deal. Neat little tune. Track 09, now there is a piano player. Terrific bass solo. Definitely my favorite track. There are a number of other interesting tracks but I really don't have any good comments. Thanks for your effort.
  19. Please excuse the late "thank you", first time on the net in a week or so. On to googling two or three of these tracks. Thanks for your efforts.
  20. Haven't had a chance to listen to part B much but I'm going to be traveling and won't be on the internet for awhile, so one last comment. Track 15 alone is worth the price of admission. Glenn Ferris (I read through the comments) is really great here. So is the rest of the group. Ferris is the best part of every album I've head him on. Thanks for the music.
