for those who missed out the cheap Universal Mosaics
RDK replied to tjobbe's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Do they have these sets in the 2001 (?) stores as well? If so, which is the closest store to Belgium? I'll be there in just a few days. -

Everything at the World Stage is a tribute to Billy. -

Been away for a few days, but arrived at the office this morning to find a big, well-packed box of 50 CDs waiting for me!

How the hell does anyone get out of college in this day and age without a credit card???? I think it has to do with the correlation between credit card usage and one's chances of getting the bird flu...

Perhaps the Customer Service personal are bitter because they can read the writing on the wall and realize that their jobs might be in jeopardy after the warehouses of back stock are cleared out by sniveling, impatient jazz obsessives eager to save a few bucks in an apocolyptic sale...

Just received confirmation. All 50 are shipping.

Well i suppose that's one way of looking at it...

Same here. Still waiting.

The graying of the record store
RDK replied to brownie's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
As for the article in general, I can sympathize. I have the same problem finding a place that will test the tubes in my old black and white TV... -
The graying of the record store

That's because it's a terrific store that has an incredible selection of CDs (new and used) and vinyl of all genres. And very good prices. It's perhaps the only indie/used store that i go to where i buy more new than used. -

You're not the first person who's been critical of the extended, unrated DVD version. Everyone i know who has seem the film both theatrically and on DVD said the extended DVD version is weaker in comparison. -
Have - and love - all but the Henderson, which i simply haven't gotten to yet. The Bley or Geri Allen might be my favorites.

Depressing? Yes, of course, but - and i hate sounding like some sort of Concord apologist here - is it really fair of us to hold Fantasy/Concord to higher standards than any other record company when it comes to keeping "minor" titles/low sellers in print indefinitely? In the past, records went in and out of print all the time, often for decades - hence, Blue Note's Conn series and other reissues - and the only thing we could do about it was buy what we wanted during the window it was available. I think we've become spoiled over the years by Fantasy's OJC series. To their great credit, Fantasy kept nearly everything in print (or at least didn't delete titles even if they were near impossble to find at retail). It's unfortunate that Concord can't, but they aren't doing what any other label (but Fantasy) wouldn't do. So I'll take adavantage of the deletions and buy all that I can.

Many thanks for the advice. Taking a closer look at the map I was surprised to see that Paris was so close to Brussels - though it's an unlikely destination for this trip only because I've been there once before. Amsterdam is very likely, though, and any other destinations reached quickly by fast train. Heck, if only two hours aweay I may go to Cologne if only to shop at Zweitausendeins! It's funny, but living here in the U.S. tends to give one a much different sense of the size of other countries, especially some of the "smaller" countries of Europe. Belgium, it seems, is smaller that Southern California.

I believe he did. And not all music is jazz...

Looks like I'm off for a week in Brussels in a bit less than two weeks from now. I've only been to Europe once - Paris - and if you asked me a month ago Belgium would have been quite a bit down the list after Italy, Germany, England, etc. - as a stupid American I barely knew where it was - but a friend is working there for the summer so i thought I'd drop in. Would love to hook up with any board members who might be in the vicinity to catch a jazz show, do some "import" CD shopping, or otherwise sightsee. Can anyone recommend any good jazz clubs, essential music stores, or must-see tourist spots? I'm also open to any suggestions for day or weekend trips to nearby cities/countries (Amsterdam?). Ray

...I claim to have sold 30 million lps as well but I don't see my name on the list.....this is bogus! m~ They do list sources. Besides, I dig the fact that they acknowledge that sales figures are fuzzy numbers at best. Rather see > 30M than something silly like 31,287,081 copies sold worldwide (not counting 1827 promo copies). -
