Waiting for the Boogaloo Sisters... RELEASED!
RDK replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Count me among those arriving very late to this party - and it's entirely my loss, my only excuse being a huge backlog of yet-to-be-heard CDs and increasingly less time to listen. Jim sent me "Boogaloo Sisters" a few weeks back, I managed to listen to it once, then promptly misplaced it along with the Maria Schneider disc. Took me an hour of searching the house last night before finding them again. -_- Anyhow, I've been listening to this all morning and digging it more and more. The playing by all the guys is top-notch, but I'm almost more impressed by the tunes. Some really nice songs here, and a mighty fine mix of organ trio rave-ups and ballads. "Pre-Dawn Rain" is playing right now and it's such a lovely tune - it could/should be a standard, Joe! "Young's Dream" and "Decoder" have become fast favorites as well. But honestly, there's not a "clunker" here - and I'm one of those guys who usually prefers a cover or two to help me get my bearings. More later, but to anyone who hasn't ordered this one yet get off your sorry ass and do it now! I promise I won't wait so long to get the next one... B-) -

"Dr. Iurea?" Appropriate...

Terrific set. But it's been out for like a year now...

I once knew a girl from Nantucket...

Adam, a version of that "sacroiliac" line goes back to "The Hucklebuck," maybe even earlier. Great one, though. A favorite of mine is from Jimmy Webb's "Wichita Lineman" - "And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time" Then there's Dylan...

Kevin - those Ebay "alerts" are only sent once a day I believe. I was waiting for this one and pounced on it within minutes of it being posted. Looking at the previous sales, Uni Music seems to be posting the Evans box around 5-6 pm Pacific Time. I suggest refreshing the "seller's other items" page every few minutes around that time as it's updated earlier than the regular search index.

Stay away from Best Buy for speakers! If you're looking for decent "mainstream" speakers (ones that you can easily find outside of audiophile stores), you might check out the Polks or Klipsch that are available at Circuit City and Good Guys. I'm rather fond of Polks for the price, though obviously you can do better for more money.

I pounced on the Evans box earlier today! Can't beat the price.

Mingus would have made a pretty cool cartoon character though...

Dan, No problem, I was just curious. I haven't done any vines in so long - i find the torrents so much easier these days. It's like being a kid in a candy store as opposed to waiting for your aunt to send you some birthday candy.

Brad, Check out www.easytree.org for your answer... B-)

This thread has taken a sad and rather ugly turn. Most here are usually quick to condemn the record labels and champion artists' rights, but now when a company chooses to abide by an artist's wishes (and even that's little more than speculation at this point), some of those same people are more than willing to say "fuck the artist and put the disc out anyway." Of course, BN/EMI can release the disc if they so choose (and call it whatever they wish), but Kevin's implication was that Cuscuna was merely abiding by Sims' wishes and either withholding the album or renaming it. So now it's screw the artist - I want it now? My how quickly we turn...
-
Why do you guys still deal in vines rather than torrents? No highspeed connection, or some other issue?
-
You have to read the fine print, Chuck. The official title, I think, is The Complete Verve Master Takes* *that fit on 3 CDs
-
Does Kenny G and/or John Tesh count?
-
Let's not get too carried away with the freedom, liberty, and "first ammendment" hyperbole. From what's been suggested, it sounds like Cuscuna and BN are simply respecting Larcoca (Sims) wishes in the matter. It wouldn't be the first time that Michael's been respectful of an artist's wishes. Personally I think it's silly to change the name, but it wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened and I don't think it's truly indicitive of the decline of western civilization...

So far nothing's been charged to my cc.

Nice job! Now can you redo "Turkish Women in the Bath" with Tyra?
-
Except, of course, if he's in support of the war... (Which he might be if he's truly the one behind the title change and concerned about any "sensitivity" issues re: our troops)

Ah, I've bought and assembled enough Ikea furniture to be a Regional Director. So you're all fired!

Well, if one thought of these sets as "legit" and not "pirated," why wouldn't the artists get paid? I assumed that this company - none too smart apparently - simply purchased these from the same wholesaler (Mosaic?) that supplies these to other on-line websites, but screwed up the pricing through some internal error. It has nothing to do with taking advantage of Mosaic or the artists, but of a pricing error on the part of the seller (and I'm not abbove that! ). btw, though I ordered a couple of sets I never expected to get them. I figured that, if in stock, I'd be informed of a pricing error or some such excuse. But some retailers honor their pricing errors and I've known people who have gotten some great deals from Amazon and other sources that way.

may be she does yoga!! And she does have a hella lot of Grammys to carry around. Them suckers are heavy!

No question about it. The more interesting issue to me, is what can we do about it now? And should anything be done about it now? They are, after all, both adults (now).

What's the big deal? When she's 91, he'll be 70. Nothing wrong with that...
