  1. I've got a copy of this set that I was planning on Ebay'ing. If anyone's interested, drop me a line.
  2. Motion Picture Story Analyst... for a great metropolitan movie studio, owned by an even greater global conglomerate. I could say "laugh it up" too!
  3. My thoughts exactly!
  4. For what it's worth, I really like this set. Completely turned me on to Woody Herman with it.
  5. FYI.... a lot of titles that were temporarily unavailable are back in stock. Some are already sold out again. I should have another batch waiting for me at home tonight.
  6. RDK

    Bass Saxophone

But on the plus side, you'll never forget and leave it behind in your ride on the way to a gig!
  7. Actually, to be fair, I at least thought you were refering to E until I read the thread again and more carefully. Why, in this age of the internet, would anybody *pay* for a bootleg?
  8. I actually haven't had the chance to watch more than a few minutes of Idol this season, but I've Tivo'd it all so far, so I'm gonna have me an Idol Marathon this weekend!
  9. The whole William Hung phenomenon is like the old pet rock craze. His "success" was grassroots and really inexplicable. It makes you shake your head in wonder at the unpredictability of pop culture. But it's also one of those little things that makes pop culture so interesting. And yeah, I agree. I think much of his success is due to the same people buying his CD who, years past, would have tossed chicken parts to a circus geek...
  10. Ah, one of my favorite Shepp albums. But I believe it's on Impulse! and not Blue Note...
  11. Yeah, isn't it funny how we dislike the things that we don't like and appreciate the things that we do like? B-)
  12. Well, now, if that isn't the most elitist post I've read in a long time. Guess I should feel guilty for enjoying something? Thank you, but my world is large enough to "enjoy" both William Hung and John Coltrane. (For different reasons of course.)
  13. Agreed! Damn political correctness and cultural sensitivity - look what it's come to...
  14. I actually prefer the post-58 Sonny. I love the RCA box, his recordings with Jim Hall, and his Impulse sides. Don't ask me why, I just do.
  15. Ed: "Sis Boom Baaa..." Karnac: "The sound a sheep makes when it explodes." Seriously, I grew up with Carson and I still remember some of his routines as if they happened yesterday. I love Letterman, but Johnny was the greatest! RIP
  16. Not so long as some corporate entity is willing to send "free" CDs to our mailboxes!
  17. A few years back, when emusic used 128 kps mp3s, I could easily hear a difference. Sometimes it was objectionable, sometimes not. Since they switched to VBR (probably 99% of their stuff now), the quality is much better. I'm sure you'd be able to hear a difference if you A-B'd the tracks with a real CD, but just listening casually you might not even notice.
  18. Of the hundreds of tracks recorded by the KJ trio, this one - from Standards One, which I first heard almost 25 years ago - remains my favorite of all their works.
  19. from me. I especially love the live stuff on 2 & 3. Yeah, some of it's a bit "sleepy" and some too chamber music-y, but one can't listen to hard bop all the time.
  20. Whatever happened to those jetpacks they promised us decades ago? The future is now, dammit!!!
  21. Thanks for the pics Alon, whether or not they're connected to the tsunami. Fascinating stuff... But why the hell would anyone need to link such stuff to the tsunami? (I don't mean you, but whoever did so originally.) The pics are worth a look, but I think anyone seriously interested in promoting the pictures would lose all credibility once the fake tsunami connection was uncovered...
  22. I suppose it could be worse... http://www.pip.com.au/~paceman/HAWKINGBUILDSROBOT.html
  23. This is what really gets at me. I find this very annoying, especially since AMG assigns your password. So it's a random series of numbers and letters rather than something you'd bother to memorize. As a result, I have to dig into my old email archive to retrieve my password every time I want to log into AMG. Huh? I registered months back and have never had to enter my password since. Gives me full access without a second thought...
  24. He should just buy a blow-up girlfriend like everyone else... B-)
