John Patton Mosaic Select: What's in, What's Out?
RDK replied to Matthew's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I think Kevin may be correct... -
If i remember the right auction, you can't even blame the seller for this wackiness. Wasn't he forthcoming about the error, the fact that Mosaic is correcting it (for free!), and that you can buy the entire Mosaic set for not much more?

Well, I've got twin daughters less than two years old, so - I'm sorry to say - my social live is this board! But I will add that there's a used record/CD store just down the street, so for a while I stopped in, if only briefly, several nights each week after work and before going home. I still run there on occassion whenever I "need a break from the family. But mostly these days I stay at home with the wife and kids. And occassionally eat animal crackers in bed. Ray

ROBOTICONS RULE! ROBOTICONS RULE! ROBOTICONS RULE!
RDK replied to JSngry's topic in Forums Discussion
I think Jim just violated one (or maybe even two) of Asimov's three "Rules of Roboticons." B) -
Hey, didn't you used to be somebody?

I'd have to agree. Actually, even when the "aliases" posted funny stuff, I always thought it in poor taste that they made up another name for themselves. Some boards frown on that practice and I tend to agree. I don't care that someone uses a moniker - hell, that's expected - but they should at least have the courage to post under that name than one they made up just to rib someone else anonymously. Ray -
Couple-a Woodstock/Ten Years After Questions

Not live, but The Essential Sly 2-disc set was released just yesterday. It's supposed to sound great... -
Well, I'm betting that B-3 can do the same thing here. Usually mods can do anything they want to with anyone's post. Whether they do or not is another story. (If I were a mod and did any sort of editing on someone else's post I would clearly state it though.) [sort of like, hey I'm making a change here to this post! or something like that.] Ray

Cripes! My new animated avitar creeps even me out! I love what you can do on this board! Ray

I'll check it out in May (or whenever), but I think by then we'll all be encamped either here or at AAJ. As I've said before, I'm more interested in the people who post than what server hosts the forums. Ray

I always thought the term "winking smily" sounded rather vulgar!
-
Has anyone tried those "closed thread" links that someone posted here earlier? The board might be closed, but we might still be able to link to the old treads and back them up. ?

Yes, he's the worst PR guy for his own music. I've heard from reliable sources that he's a very good musician, but I picked up a CD of his (in the dollar bins of all places; glad i didn't pay more) and have absolutely zero interest in giving it a spin. I usually try to separate the art from the artist, but his posts are so detestable to me that I refuse to play it. Oh well. My loss. I guess... Ray

If you ask me, the fact that his wife frequents a jazz bulletin board makes your husband the lucky one!

A classic. What droll understatement. The "once again" part cracks me up every time. When I tire of my current signature line, I may just use that Hardbop quote. Ray

Dan, go to "My Controls" (up top) and you can change the Board Settings to something other than "default"

Just wanted to say that it's great to see this thread reopened here!

I've actually grown more torn over the last day or two. This is a closer recreation of the BN board and since it was started specifcally to host us refugees, I think we do feel more comfortable here. (Besides, the forum software is terrific!) On the other hand, the AAJ website (not just the forums) is well-established and pretty darn good to boot. The changes that the board is undergoing this weekend should also make it more like the old BN board (or here!). It really is too soon to tell how things will shake out. I'm pleased to see what some of the topics are here (John Paton! Jimmy Smith!), and I believe that both boards will eventually develop their own identities. I'm sure I'll stick with them both. Ray

For whom the bell tolls it tolls for the BNBB
RDK replied to Soul Stream's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well, I can't believe that Tom is pleased by what happened. I also can't believe that he ordered the "hit," though he might have botched the "execution." He took enough interest in some of the misc. threads in the past and he seemed to generally like us. I think, though, that he may have been surprised at the current state of the board, and especially the misc threads. He sort of trusted us to police ourselves, but then he went away, we threw a wild party, and the neighbors called the cops. It was handled badly, and he probably realizes that now, in retrospect. The first couple of CDs are indeed mastered on the "bright" side. I hadn't really noticed until Shrdlu pointed it out on the BN board. I took another listen and sure enough he was right. The other discs sound better. But the music is still pretty terrific; the sound doesn't bother me all that much. Ray

I get that one too! Now who in the world would buy a septic tank cleaning system over the internet? Besides, I'm in the middle of Los Angeles - their ain't no septic tanks anywhere around here that I know of!
-
Heck, Mike, I'm not offended. On the contrary, some of the stuff that I have on CDr would probably offend a few souls around here! Btw, i dig your avatar! I have that album as a BN jukebox 45. Pretty neat; wish they're release that one.

I get several dozen such spams each day at work. The ironic thing, of course, is that I have no need for "penis enlargement." Every once in a while the "breast augmentation" spams come with pretty pictures.

Now that I've had a little while to take the tour, I'd have to say that Organissimo - right here! - should be the new home for the old and estranged BNBBers. But I'm taking that literally since you've done such a fine job essentially recreating our old stomping ground with updated software and a more positive, open-minded outlook. Yes, this is our new home, so to speak, but I can't rule out the AAJ boards for their established players and somewhat different perspective. I felt somewhat guity joining everyone in testing the waters there (and at Harlem.com). We kinda swooped in en masse and took over their playground by sheer force of numbers. The vets there accepted us graciously, but i did feel like part of an invading army. Here, it feels more like home - the same ol' place but with a new URL. Ray

Okay, you talked me into it. I'm closing my office door and turning up "Memphis to New York Spirit." B)

To answer your begged question, let's just talk about misc. music in the "misc - non-political" thread.
