  1. great news! But it's not the last one is it? Wasn't there one with Pat Methany, or did i miss that one?
  2. The interesting thing is that Moore got a standing-O when he won, but the minute he opened his mouth he was met with a whole bunch o' boos. I've never before seen anyone alienate an otherwise supportive audience so quickly...
  3. Damn, Philip! I clicked onto this thread intending to post the exact same witicism. And there you went and beat me to it...
  4. That was probably me. Perhaps it's just that i bought so many last time that I haven't found as many new discs that I want. A lot of "repeats," plus the nearest B & N didn't get as many in this time. I'll have to check again this weekend to see if they've restocked.
  5. Hmmm, now that I've seen the setlist, the Bennie Green may go on the back burner for me. The only thing I'm lacking is "Back on the Scene," though i only have a CR-R of the "45 Sessions." Still, I like this stuff so much.... The Weston, especially with the unreleased session, looks better all the time. While I have some of this material on LP, the only one i have on CD is "Afrika/Highlife."
  6. I'm sorta with Kevin of "Afrika/Highlife" - I like one of the sessions a lot, but not so much the other (though i forget which is which). But I have some of the UA sessions on that old BN double LP from the 70s and think that it's very good - and quite a bit different from "Afrika/Highlife." While I don't like everything that Weston's done, I am looking forward to this Select box. Ray
  7. I've been good and have only picked up about 6 or 7 so far, though I did buy about 25 of them during the sale last year. Glad to hear that they're restocking because the selection this year hasn't been as good.
  8. I think Kevin may be correct...
  9. If i remember the right auction, you can't even blame the seller for this wackiness. Wasn't he forthcoming about the error, the fact that Mosaic is correcting it (for free!), and that you can buy the entire Mosaic set for not much more?
  10. Well, I've got twin daughters less than two years old, so - I'm sorry to say - my social live is this board! But I will add that there's a used record/CD store just down the street, so for a while I stopped in, if only briefly, several nights each week after work and before going home. I still run there on occassion whenever I "need a break from the family. But mostly these days I stay at home with the wife and kids. And occassionally eat animal crackers in bed. Ray
  11. I think Jim just violated one (or maybe even two) of Asimov's three "Rules of Roboticons." B)
  12. I'd have to agree. Actually, even when the "aliases" posted funny stuff, I always thought it in poor taste that they made up another name for themselves. Some boards frown on that practice and I tend to agree. I don't care that someone uses a moniker - hell, that's expected - but they should at least have the courage to post under that name than one they made up just to rib someone else anonymously. Ray
  13. Not live, but The Essential Sly 2-disc set was released just yesterday. It's supposed to sound great...
  14. Well, I'm betting that B-3 can do the same thing here. Usually mods can do anything they want to with anyone's post. Whether they do or not is another story. (If I were a mod and did any sort of editing on someone else's post I would clearly state it though.) [sort of like, hey I'm making a change here to this post! or something like that.] Ray
  15. Cripes! My new animated avitar creeps even me out! I love what you can do on this board! Ray
  16. I'll check it out in May (or whenever), but I think by then we'll all be encamped either here or at AAJ. As I've said before, I'm more interested in the people who post than what server hosts the forums. Ray
  17. I always thought the term "winking smily" sounded rather vulgar!
  18. Has anyone tried those "closed thread" links that someone posted here earlier? The board might be closed, but we might still be able to link to the old treads and back them up. ?
  19. Yes, he's the worst PR guy for his own music. I've heard from reliable sources that he's a very good musician, but I picked up a CD of his (in the dollar bins of all places; glad i didn't pay more) and have absolutely zero interest in giving it a spin. I usually try to separate the art from the artist, but his posts are so detestable to me that I refuse to play it. Oh well. My loss. I guess... Ray
  20. If you ask me, the fact that his wife frequents a jazz bulletin board makes your husband the lucky one!
  21. A classic. What droll understatement. The "once again" part cracks me up every time. When I tire of my current signature line, I may just use that Hardbop quote. Ray
  22. Dan, go to "My Controls" (up top) and you can change the Board Settings to something other than "default"
  23. Just wanted to say that it's great to see this thread reopened here!
  24. I've actually grown more torn over the last day or two. This is a closer recreation of the BN board and since it was started specifcally to host us refugees, I think we do feel more comfortable here. (Besides, the forum software is terrific!) On the other hand, the AAJ website (not just the forums) is well-established and pretty darn good to boot. The changes that the board is undergoing this weekend should also make it more like the old BN board (or here!). It really is too soon to tell how things will shake out. I'm pleased to see what some of the topics are here (John Paton! Jimmy Smith!), and I believe that both boards will eventually develop their own identities. I'm sure I'll stick with them both. Ray
  25. Well, I can't believe that Tom is pleased by what happened. I also can't believe that he ordered the "hit," though he might have botched the "execution." He took enough interest in some of the misc. threads in the past and he seemed to generally like us. I think, though, that he may have been surprised at the current state of the board, and especially the misc threads. He sort of trusted us to police ourselves, but then he went away, we threw a wild party, and the neighbors called the cops. It was handled badly, and he probably realizes that now, in retrospect. Ray
