  1. I find it amusing that some would praise an RVG Collection while criticizing a Keepnews Collection.
  2. Tadd slept with Marilyn Manson??? Otherwise I have no idea what you mean...
  3. The Waldron-Shepp is very nice, Lon - I'm sure you'll love it. I'll have to look into the Vidal - sounds promising; thanks for the tip. My sub renews in just a couple of days and I can't wait to d/l at least some of the new Braxton.
  4. Man, some of you (old geezers mostly ) obviously have no idea what a "grindhouse" even is/was.
  5. Joe, sorry I missed you at Metropol. Johnny pointed you out to me - or at least where you were - but you'd already left. And John, I was really glad I made it out to see you guys. I had a really bad week and almost didn't go, but was very glad that i did. Crowd was unfotrunately a bit sparse, but that's L.A. for you. The CD, btw, is excellent!
  6. I'm almost afraid to ask about "Rosebud."
  7. Never cared for Porkys, but A Christmas Story is a stone classic. Was very sad to hear about this last night.
  8. For what it's worth, I prefer the earlier Mosaic set over the later one.
  9. I always liked how, in the comic book, Captain Kangaroo had psychic control over kangaroos and other marsupials. Pity that he used his power for evil...
  10. This just arrived on emusic!
  11. They just added Braxton's Iridium box set plus some Thelonious Records' live Monk discs! Must hold out a few days for my subscription to renew...

    Keith Jarrett

My understanding was that Jarrett's rant was over the original U.S. CD, which changed the order and cut a track - which would make it a valid rant. I don't know why the latest CD is a double.

    Keith Jarrett

I have the single disc U.S. version (from 1991) and it runs over 77 min. - which was pretty long for the time. Since then they've been able to squeeze an extra minute or two onto a CD, so that might account for why it went from one CD (with a missing track) to a maxed-out single or double CD. As for Jarrett's "fit" being "dubious," I can't really blame him - not when you see how people around here get all bent out of shape when OJC or Collectibles lops off a track in order to get everything to fit onto a single CD.
  14. Man, a year or two ago a sale like this would have left me broke for months, but I seem to already have domestic versions of most of these and I've been sort of going through an "anything but Blue Note" period lately anyway. More for you guys!
  15. The real Paul Harvey or the younger guy who fills in, talks just like him, and tries to make the ol' geezers who listen think he is Paul Harvey? G'day...
  16. Seriously, though - they have Lo-jacks for your pets, why not for your kids?
  17. Heh. Don't know why - well, yeah, I guess i do - but that reminds me of how they used "All Along the Watchtower" in the season finale of Battlestar Galactica. Anyone else catch it? Really interesting...
  18. Just have a second but I wanted to bump this for anyone in the Bay Area who's considering seeing these cats play this weekend. Drop what you're doing and catch them! Saw them last night in L.A. and reports of their goodness have not been exagerated. At the risk of sounding backhanded, they were much better than I expected - but only because I hadn't heard them before and had no idea what to expect.
  19. Not that it needs it now, but I'll second (third?) the recommndation of this disc. It's funny, but we (or at least I) often overlook these "cheap" laserlight or generic-looking LRC discs because they often look like poor quality boots or rip-off complations (and many are!). I picked this up at some record store sidewalk sale a few years ago for probably a quarter and didn't listen to it for the longest time. When I finally did, I was most pleasantly surprised.
  20. Well he's new to me!
  21. Would love to see this properly released if only for the anti-PC-ness of it all. I have an old VHS dub of this and it's not one of Disney's better films (though ironically it features one of Disney's greatest and most popular songs). And frankly, there are more black stereotypes shown in ten minutes of late night videos on BET than in the entire film. It's certainly a dated film with period stereotypes, but no worse than a WWII film in which American soldiers refer to fighting "Japs" and "gooks."
  22. Just a few "new" bands that I've been digging these days: Snow Patrol Smog Explosions in the Sky The Decembrists The Fiery Furnaces Godspeed you, Black Emperor
  23. Back to the subject: Yogi Berra - how many other ballplayers have a cartoon character named after them?
  24. Speaking of Pete Rose, when did he finally come clean? Caught him on Leno last night and he was openly talking about betting on the Reds (whom he was managing) to win.
