  1. Future uncertain for TV's Madmen
  2. That's interesting. I'm not sure I even own any CC CDs. If I do, I'll have to try this.
  3. To keep all discussion about Stereo Jack's conveniently in one thread: For the next several weeks I will be spinning some of my favorite vinyl that I scored over the years at Jack's. First up, from the dollar easy listening bin: The18th Century Corporation - Bacharach Baroque - UA (orange and pink label, stereo) Featuring Siegfried Schwab of "Vampyros Lesbos" fame.
  4. Anyone mention Marion Brown?
  5. Stereo Jack's was such a huge part of my Boston/Cambridge experience. It's like they're tearing down Harvard.
  6. Later I will compile a list of some of the AMAZING vinyl I picked up over the years at Jack's, stuff I've never seen before or since...
  7. Wave and Tide are mostly if not all instrumental. Stone Flower is a mix, more vocal than instrumental IIRC.
  8. As I've written elsewhere, I still have dreams about Stereo Jack's! And I left Boston about 8 years ago! I was back last year and of course scored some amazing stuff. Jack, my two favorite record stores EVER are Stereo Jack's and Princeton Record Exchange (back when the latter was great in the early 1990s). Best of luck - I hope this is happening for good reasons.

  10. Especially if red wine is involved.
  11. Incidentally, we wound up watching "Girl on a Motorcycle," which we hadn't seen in a while.
  12. While I was having some fun with my posts in this thread, I have a substantial Bill Evans accumulation, but I unloaded this one because the cover is so hideous. That and the Rhodes, which is not suited for this kind of music. Presentation is important to me.
  13. Many drug addicts grow beards to hide the facial ulcerations from infections and lack of fatty tissue in their cheeks. Evans had a beard to his dying last days. Thanks. Now explain the leisure suits.
  14. Michelle... Here There and Everywhere... And of course... The Fool on the Hill. Whenever Singers Unlimited did a Beatles tune, it always BLEW AWAY the Beatles' own version. That's it, we just finished fondue for dinner and we're going to watch either Purple Noon or Girl on a Motorcycle. Have a good week! - Your beloved TTK.
  15. A cold night. Fondue for dinner. What else can I play but something on MPS? Singers Unlimited - A Capella 1
  16. The Electric Indian - Keem-O-Sabe - UA (pink and orange, stereo) A dollar bin wonder!
  17. I love Jobim's voice - not so much because of the instrument itself, but because of what it says about the composer. Especially his 70s albums. Jobim sounds like a man who has lived well, smoked the best cigars, ate the best steaks, and drank the best scotch. I imagine these decadent dinners at his place in Rio, with Vinicius, Michel Legrand, Henry Mancini, Morricone and Bacharach all sitting around the table with wine decanters and lots of cigarette smoke in the air. The lights are dim, and the room is furnished in dark wood furniture. I see this in a grainy 8mm kodachrome, with the room bathed in dark orange light. It looks like a made-for-TV early 70s gothic supernatural film or a Cutty Sark ad in Playboy. Jobim's voice conveys all that.
  18. Sounds like you may like Julie London's "Julie is Her Name." There is a two-fer CD available with both volumes.
  19. Nat King Cole - After Midnight - Capitol (rainbow, mono) This is a Euro reissue also containing the 5 bonus tracks. Never knew these made it to vinyl. This is by far my favorite post-trio era Nat Cole album.
  20. Thank you both. Looking forward to spinning this - I'll report back.
  21. That's it. I love that mid-century modern design.
